San Diego State Class of 2029 Freshman Discussion Thread

My daughter’s friend heard today too. Not sure major and she just got her app in right before the deadline.

Congratulations to all! My son still hasn’t received his portal information. Is that pretty typical at this point?

My son originally missed the info for portal info in his email. It was sent shortly after he submitted his application. You might want to have him search his email.

When do they apply for scholarships?

A few scholarships are awarded automatically, but most can be applied to after the student is admitted and enrolled. The scholarship portal is not yet available for this year’s admits.

Sorry to be dense – but if the student did not hear today, then the student will not hear in December at all, but possibly in January or February or for sure in March.
No multiple days of notification in December?

Here is the information I have on the Early admits and Regular admission timelines for the last few years. Since SDSU does not list their actual decisions dates, the information is based on when individuals have posted on the different social media websites.

2024: Early admits starting December 18, another wave around January 4 and some rare admits Early Feb 2024. Rare admit March 2. Nursing admits posted March 5. Some audition based majors heard March 7. Another wave of Admits March 11, 2024 and March 13, 2024. Waitlists posted March 19, 2024. Denials posted March 20, 2024. Weber’s Honors college notification March 21, 2024

2023: Early admits starting January 24 and a few admits trickling out throughout February. Some auditions based majors heard on March 14. Rolling admission wave starting March 16 and 17th. Waitlists posted March 17. Denials posted Monday March 20, 2023.

2022: Early admits started December 15, 2021 over a few days. Rare early admits posted in early January 2022. Regular admission trickle starting March 8, 2022 followed by a larger admit wave on March 11. Some Waitlisted and Denials starting March 17.

SDSU is a top choice for my son so he was thrilled with his acceptance yesterday. I think he would be considered decently high stats (4.0/4.33 - unweighted/weighted). I’m curious to get impressions of the honors college and whether or not it would be worth it to apply. In his initial round of applications, I only insisted he apply to ASU’s honors program because trying to get him to write any more essays seemed like torture. Now that he has an acceptance to SDSU though and his other applications are in, I’m wondering how much energy I should spend encouraging him to apply to Weber. Advantages/disadvantages? Do students feel like the experience is worth it at SDSU?

kinda interested in this topic myself. I did a little research on HC at SDSU and in general, it didn’t seem like students felt like a worthwhile experience. Extra work with limited benefits. Somewhere I saw a list of the top 10 HC and I saw ASU there if that means anything…

My Daughter was accepted yesterday for biology. Good luck to all the students!

We are local so know a lot of families in both honors and non-honors college. IMO its worth it and I highly encourage your son to apply. Better housing and academic support. He will be rooming in a dorm of kids there to study instead of party.

You’re amazing! Thank you.

(I’m a San Diego native so my daughter is keen on a yes, even if she has other schools a bit higher on her list. I am proud of her love for the Aztecs and her desire to hear some good news at some point.)

Have a great day!

DD accepted yesterday! (received email around 5pm PST)

4.0UW/4.33W capped
11 IBs, 3 UC approved honors
25 a-g courses
Mechanical Engineering
CA

For those that didn’t hear yesterday, this happened to my son 2 years ago. Many of his friends received early SDSU acceptances, but he didn’t. He had a 4.36W capped CSU GPA (civil engineering). I have no idea why some are accepted early and others aren’t, but he was accepted in March (he’s attending UCLA). Maybe it’s the major? I don’t know.

There never seems to be a cut and dry reason why some hear so early and others do not. My S still hasn’t heard for engineering from Penn State yet was accepted yesterday to SDSU for Aerospace. Maybe has something to do with their high school? We are from CO and a ton of kids go to SDSU.

Financial packages will be sent out in March and yes they normally admit a small group of applicants early.

My daughter received her acceptance yesterday. We are local so I’m sure that played into why she received it so early.

Daughter admitted yesterday, Biology major, OOS. Not sure of CSU GPA, but regular is 3.83 UW/4.0 W, 5 APs.

In her acceptance letter it says that admission is conditioned on having a C- or higher grades, all coursework completed as planned, and “maintaining your reported overall grade point average”. I’m not sure she’ll have a 3.83 in senior year. How critical is this?
