I second what @mom3gals says about your CC friends being for life. You are not done with ups and downs by a long shot and no one else understands, so reaching out now and staying in touch with the people you like is really critical in the next four years (and probably longer).
and as JK says, NO ONE else understands even though they try. Most other parents are just thinking what in the world are you wasting your money on, your kid should major in actuary science, law or medicine and if not why bother with college. So stick with us . Our kids are gonna make it. They are!
Absolutely…and reading the stress you guys are going through brings back those feelings so we have a ton of empathy for you all. And you will for the next year’s group…it really does help to have a village navigating this process.
I’m incredibly grateful for the wisdom and comfort I have received here. I can’t vent to my family and friends because they get sick and bored of hearing about it. They either can’t relate or can’t do anything so feel helpless. I’m so glad I stumbled on CC
I remember in the early part of the process last year my husband and son would roll their eyes when I would tell them what I was learning from the CC clan. By this time last year in the process they were asking “What are your friends on CC saying about …?”
@dennehy my daughter committed to DePaul this week. I hope that he gets enough from FAFSA!
Whenever my husband hears me laugh (or gasp, or growl, or clap etc) from another room he calls out “what’s happening on cc?”
So, I have been emotionally committed to DePaul for a couple of weeks now, but, in the back of my head, I’ve been waiting to hear from Carnegie. And I found out about an hour ago that I’m on the priority wait list. Which is incredibly flattering! But now this process is going to be dragged out even longer, and I’m not sure whether or not I should hold my breath about a potential future acceptance. I know there are worse problems to have, but gosh, I was hoping today would be the day I finally got to wrap this whole ordeal up for good.
HannahMTheatre, you and I are posting in all the same places with the same question :). My D was also priority waitlisted for Acting BFA at Carnegie. does anyone know if there is any shot, or should she just move on. Thanks.
@dennehy, if you are interested in talking to a Fordham parent, PM me. My daughter is currently a junior.
@kjd111 Haha, gosh, I know!! I hear about people coming off certain wait lists at Carnegie, but the Directing program is even smaller - only four students a year - and there are fewer directing programs out there to pick between, so, if a wait list spot at Carnegie is just a nice ego boost, I will accept it as that and move on. I know I will be very, very happy at DePaul. But it would be nice to think there’s still some hope for Carnegie!
Same here. My problem with the priority waitlist, is that they didn’t reveal the financial package. It doesn’t seem fair to require the priority waitlist people to unconditionaly committ to CMU if we don’t know what the cost will be.
Check with @glassharmonica her child goes to Fordham
Hannah - I totally understand. So difficult but my daughter would love to go to Carnegie and so she’ll hang in there with it I am sure
@audrone…double check with CMU because the year my D got on the Priority Wait List, a financial aid package was sent to us so we’d have that information in hand in case an offer was made. So, this might be coming to you in snail mail still. You can call and ask.
Yep, I’m hanging in there with Carnegie, too. Opted for priority wait list today, but trying not to get attached. I DO adore DePaul, and, no matter what, I know I will be very happy next year.
@HannahMTheatre, you’ve got to take it as a win that you are one of the five or six best directing candidates in the USA this year (or maybe the world). Regardless of what happens, that’s a big deal. Though I kinda hope you end up in Chicago so that maybe one day you’ll be casting a show and my son will audition for you. Anyway, good luck and come back to let us know what happens.
@Jkellynh17 Is your kiddo going to DePaul?
No he’s at CCPA but he’s already worked with a bunch of DePaul grads in summer things. It’s a very interconnected scene in Chicago.
I will echo Jkellyn about what a great place Chicago is for theatre. My D worked there for a year after graduating from Tisch and loved every minute of it.
