^ Harvard wants people who will become CEOs and Presidents - not necessarily geniuses.

Ah frank, just thought I’d end off my post dramatically. But they do take in pure geniuses regularly, but they are in the minority.

By the way, you do know that it’s a cardinal sin on CC to say that Harvard wants any one particular type of people only.

frank: yeah that’s why harvard and yale take ■■■■■■■ like gwb from time to time

the beauty of america

@frank: I think you’re a genius too, Mr I-am-so-humble ;)

@1234d: I know I sound like a total idiot (which I probably am, btw) but who’s gwb?

George W Bush

Hey… you don’t convince a nation to vote for you twice without having some brains

Arguably, he didn’t.

In any case, most would say that he was not the brain behind his own administration.

actually, he sort of did. but by ‘convince a nation’ it was more of a lesser of two evils thing. gore should have won the first time but i’ve no idea why kerry was up there the second time. sort of forced america to reelect the bush guy.

I guess it depends on your definition of “convincing a nation”, since he didn’t win the popular vote and it was down to a supreme court decision.

And ultimately, the nature of the two-party system is such that polarized partisan opinions guarantee you close to 50% of the votes even if you are a brainless idiot, as long as you have the money and advisers to package yourself in a manner acceptable to your target demographic.

Of course he won the election twice. But whether he did it by “convincing a nation” is the arguable part, along with whether he could’ve done it without Karl Rove and Dick Cheney.

Winning nearly fifty percent of the vote the first time after one of the best democratic presidents isn’t easy. Second time round, it was a solid win.
And don’t say it was all about Rove and Cheney. Every top man has a great advice team. Plus, if he was so useless in garnering votes, don’t you think rove and cheney could have easily tried an independent bid?

Clinton was plagued by Lewinsky and stuff like that back then, I wouldn’t say he was doing AG a favour on the “morality” front, not to mention the Republican genii and their “if there’s a surplus, cut the taxes” rhetoric which worked quite well…

An independent bid isn’t that easy - some people simply aren’t made to run for president - KR is a great strategist but that may not necessarily hold true for a presidential run, and besides, if they ran on a separate ticket, KR and DC would have split the conservative vote thus handing it to AG, and then they would be spit upon by their party forevermore.

Oh come on… No matter how favorable the circumstances, you can’t become president without being a good candidate… Even winning the Republican primary contest takes a lot of brains, charisma and planning. I’m no fan of GB but he’s not the idiot he’s portrayed to be by the media…
Btw I meant independent as independent of GB not independent of the party

He’s still an idiot

p.s. for the naysayers, I recommend Farenheit 9/11. Highly.

I’m talking about becoming President, i.e. the process of getting elected not about whether Dick Cheney ran the administration or not.
As for Farenheit 9/11 surely you didn’t fall for that. Its a real Everest out of a molehill. Even Moore’s other documentary about whether man really landed on the moon has been rubbished by scientists

Alright, chill guys let’s end it already  Take it to another thread or to PM.

Oh come on now, Bush is a nice person :)

Does anyone know if its possible to bring my phone over from home and get it “locked” into the network? I took a look at all the phones available by AT&T, T-mobile and Verizon but the colors/models seem limited. I have a Blackberry in pink now and is it possible to bring it over there and ask them to open the network so that i can use all the push-mail/ PIN messaging functions?

If you have an unlocked phone - no problem (make sure your phone supports quad-band GSM though - and do note you can only use your phone on AT&T and T-mobile networks - Verizon uses CDMA).

I’m sure you guys would have had a look at the NTU/NUS application forms…on the NTU form,it asks whether I’m applying to NUS,while on the NUS form,it asks whether I’m gonna apply to NTU…

Am I suppose to say YES or lie?:p
