Say yes. They have a shared application acceptance site and all so I guess they know each others’ applicant data. Don’t lie.

It’s never a good idea to lie on uni apps. Tell the truth. I don’t think it will detract from your chances.

Oh…ok…I just thought NUS and NTU were rivals and maybe, they didn’t like applicants who applied to both Unis:)

you’re not local are you? everybody in singapore applies to more than one local uni. its not gonna give you bonus marks at all

Yes… screwitlah is right. Almost nobody I know applied to one of the two alone. I’m sure it doesn’t hurt.
P.S. 100 posts :D

^ there’s 3 public unis here actually. And yes, of course everyone’s gonna apply to more than one, unless he/she is only gunning for medicine/dentistry.

Oops, i missed SMU… But unless you’re doing management, it doesn’t really come into the picture.

I’m an international by the way…;)

@smartchap: they aren’t really “rivals” as such. and yeah- it doesn’t really matter- most people apply for both. It’d be stupid not to. You’re from India, right? NTU usually takes a crazy number of Indians in every year. Last year- 30+ people from DPSRKP made it to NTU while just around 6-7 made it to NUS- and everyone applied to both.

bottomline is: apply to both! (:

I would definitely apply for both…
The only thing I had on my mind was whether I had to say so in the application…thats now cleared too…;)

^ yup, just be honest on your forms.
fyi, NTU and NUS aren’t exactly rivals in the Oxbridge sense and both are ultimately under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Is it necessary to be honest and not say NUS is my only choice for a university where they ask on the form?

LOL. I don’t know about all these questions… but anecdotal evidence!

I, a Singaporean citizen, straightforwardly confessed in my NTU interview that I would prefer to go overseas and mentioned the universities I had applied too. Result: NTU admission with Nanyang Scholarship.

My friend, a VNese citizen, withdrew in writing her application to NTU after enrolling in a US LAC. Result: She was still sent notification of winning the ASEAN undergrad scholarship.

Ooops!! Does that my saying NUS is my only choice will ruin my chances? God.

I feel all those inquisitive questions are just for statistical purposes…just like a survey;)

O Gosh! Almost whimpered. Thankss

fiona: your examples show NTU’s decision-making to be very baffling, to be honest ><

Haha, maybe the example of my VNese friend>> I attribute it to bureaucratic lagness. About my example, I would think that NTU unfortunately has the mission of recruiting good Singapore students, whether or not they actually wanna go NTU or not

^ why do you think it’s an unfortunate mission?

Unfortunately–like it or not…
