I think the policy varies by school.

where can i get a list of schools that accept students with O level certs and have relatively late application deadlines, say march '10 ? coz the O level results don’t come out until mid jan and i’m guessing the SAT results take a month to come out ? so since i’m sitting for the paper in jan 23, middle of feb is a safe bet ?? its also better if they’re not too much into CCAs and whatnot, coz i didn’t attend a secondary school, attended a private school only.

interested in engineering btw

thanks

(someone needs to teach me how to do this quote thing!)

SAT results come out 20 days after you take it. I don’t think any schools have deadlines in March. Most schools allow you to submit the application first and then take the January SAT (Harvard, for example) and send them the results after that. Other schools don’t accept scores from the January SAT. Schools which accept students with O Level certs usually have a “rolling admissions” policy, which means a decision is made as and when they receive your application. So submitting close to the Jan deadline may hurt your chances as the class may be filled.

I don’t know many schools that do (your best bet is to check out individual websites), but I know University of Michigan does, as of 2 years ago. Don’t know what it’s policy is now.

@BrilliantMinds

Sorry but I’m not in the habit of sending my essays to strangers. Hope you understand!

Good luck with your essays though. Don’t worry about what others write, just concentrate on your own essays and I’m sure you’ll do well! (:

I am not sure which schools accept O-level certificates specifically, but universities will rolling admissions can accept applications as late as April. Search for those schools on the web.

@vsxy+frankchn: thanks for your help. would 5/6 subjects be enough to apply ?? right now i’m pretty interested in purdue coz i’ve got a couple of friends there…

Hi all. I have a younger brother who will be in JC1 arts stream(Literature, History, Economics, Math) next year. He wants to get a headstart by preparing early and has already decided on Math II and World History but is unsure of the 3rd SAT subject test to take-Literature(which has an unlenient curve) or a science subject(to show that he is balanced). Any advice?

hey how are u guys doing ur resume? cuz the activities portion is like really no space… are u all just going to list each activity then describe or what? thanks =)

Personally unfamiliar with Purdue but I guess there is no harm trying.

Upload a separate resume if you think you are running out of space on the Activities list.

I don’t think World History is that easy either. Thought of thinking it but decided against it in the end - a lot of facts to memorize which is quite unlike what H2 History will be like. I suggest to take the science subject and take it early - before he forgets everything.

Although SAT History is quite different from H2 History, I think it’s probably one of the easier subjects to mug for, especially if you have prior interest in the topic. It’s all multiple choice and the questions are very standard. It’s certainly a lot easier to self-study than any science subjects. My experience is limited to US History though.

SAT World History requires you to be very well-read, and analytical. It covers everything, from dinosaurs (heh heh) to Obama.

^ But the curve is damn generous. I read up on SAT WH stuff after my As and got 760 for the Dec sitting. Do consider taking it.

thats true, do consider taking it. it’s one of the harder sat subject tests, so most people do avoid it

Oh. Are colleges more impressed by a 800 or 790 in a SAT II w/ lower mean score?

I don’t think it makes much difference.

Anyhow, if you are taking an H2 in a science subject and take the Subject Test in the same subject, then I think you are pretty much expected to score an 800 no matter what the mean is. If you are taking a SAT language test in your native language, then you are expected an 800 as well.

Hi guys quick question again!

For the Honors section on the CommonApp i filled them in with the scholarships i received over the yrs, i hope that’s fine - did you guys do that too?

merry (early) christmas!!!

on a ttly unrelated note, for those who applied oxbridge (ok prolly close to 0 here considering it’s cc), all the best for your results (:

^ yes just write 5 of your more significant awards. merry x’mas to everyone!

Has anyone been admitted into University of Washington, Seattle?

I know a Shanghai American School grad at UW Seattle xP
