Hey would u suggest sending

1) SATI 2120 + SAT II 800 800 OR

2) ACT 33

Gosh so hard to decide… Plus my ACT combined english/writing results are not out yet, so on the common app do I leave my composite blank or just 33 for now?

I’d send the ACT if the true composite were 33 – what do you mean the English/Writing isn’t out? Does this composite of 33 include the E/W score alr?

nope, cuz i took the december act, and the writing result dosen’t come out yet. But I feel my sat II so wasted haiz…

Send all your scores. The admissions people will likely take the better of the SAT I or the ACT.

Agreed. Send all of them.

do u really think so? cuz I’m just paranoid about my SAT I since I took it like 3 times and it’s still like 2120…

So on the common app do I put ACT composite as 33 then leave the combined english/writing blank?

I think you should send ur ACT instead. 33 ACT is around 2200 SAT right, plus you’ve taken SAT thrice already.

… but then again wouldn’t the schools see your SAT when you submit your subject test scores?

Nope, most schools I"m applying to just need act or sat I + 2 sat II. The only school that can’t is yale which is like my super super reach school but u never know unless u try…

For yale it’s either all ACT or all SAT…

I think I’m only going to send act to yale then but act + sat II to the other schools. Thanks for ur help guys =)

okay that sounds good to me. i’d really suggest the act + SAT 2 option.

what would you say is what US universities really look for in applicants? i mean, when i studied in Singapore, i was into totally into academics, but after 3 months overseas, i think that my perspective has totally changed…it seems that not so much matters now, and that what universities look for is more or less at how the person has made use of his life [im not sure if it is the correct way to put it!] with what he has done, and that so as long as your grades are good, it should be alright…

is it something disastrous to happen?

I think it’s a mutual understanding of sort between you and a school that you hope to get into. Almost like a deal. Like, you must show that you’re prepared(academically and emotionally etc) to benefit from the school and also how the school can benefit by having you. This may very broad and general but I’ve always assumed this to be the case and I think it is right. :)

Of course, your grades being “good” is relative to the university you are thinking of going as well. But yeah, US universities look at what you have done with your life so far, how well a fit you will be with the school and what your future goals and potential will be like.

To those that deferred entry for 2 years and applied for financial aid, how did u all work things out becuz financial aid only applies for the following year and not 2 years later right?

pyrosphere, it differs from school to school, and it depends on the type of financial aid awarded. better to email the offices.

pyrosphere, in the first place most schools require you to submit a new financial aid application for each school year anyway. So you’ll just submit a new application before you matriculate. As long as your financial need doesn’t change dramatically from when you applied it should be ok.

How do I match the semester term in polytechnic to the quarter term used in US? For Autumn 2009, Winter 2010, Spring 2010 and Summer 2010, which months they refer to?

If I finish my elementary school in Taiwan (6 years, use US education system), complete my secondary school in Singapore and now attend polytechnic, should I consider my elementary school as grade 1 to 6 and my secondary school as 9 to 12?

For schools on a semester system (dates approximate):
Autumn 2009/10 starts around August 2009 and ends December 2009.
There is no Winter term.
Spring 2009/10 starts January 2010 and ends May 2010.

For schools on a quarter system (dates approximate):
Autumn 2009/10 starts around September 2009 and ends December 2009.
Winter 2009/10 starts around January 2010 and ends March/Apr 2010.
Spring 2009/10 starts March/Apr 2010 and ends June 2010.

Summer 2009/10 starts from June 2010 and ends in August/September 2010.

Your secondary school counts for Grades 7-10 and your polytechnic counts for 11 and 12 and beyond.

I’ve. become so numb. I can’t feel you there. I’ve become so tired so much more aware.
