heyy can anyone tell me what’s considered a ‘hooked’ applicant other than being a legacy? period, this term seems almost trite. someone who is exceptionally talented in the arts/music(won international competitions) considered a ‘hooked’ applicant?

To me, even being a legacy isn’t exactly a hook that will get you in any more. It might be an advantage but certainly not a hook. The only real “hooks” nowadays are developmental admits - where your parents or relatives donate (or have the potential to donate) millions of dollars to the school.

Sure, being exceptionally talented would be an advantage in your favor as they are trying to build a class - but it doesn’t guarantee admissions.

Hello, anyone here kind enough to read my college essay (for the uk)? Only for the already undergrads and above, thanks! :)

frankchn > Hey, just wanted to come back to thank you for your advice.

pfaocltd>> Haha are you a RJC '89 student?

Guys, do US colleges award credit for AO level Chinese? I know they award credit for A level subjects, but what about AO Chinese?

yes they do, or at least most do; vanderbilt gave me 5 credit hours.

Phew. All this while I was unaware they offered credit for AO Chinese. I thought it was A level Chinese. Think they forgot to post credits for me.

depends on your administration and faculty. talk to them, and show them the syllabus. they can be downloaded at [.: Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board - Home :.](http://www.seab.gov.sg)

fiona: considering i’m RJC '08, i dont think pfaocltd is *that *old heh

Good luck to all ACS(I) '09-ers (who’re receiving their IB scores today)!

Who here’s willing to read my personal statement for UK? I need opinions on how to improve it

-thwacks 1234d- I meant RJC '07 lahhhh… Like born in '89. I’m sure you just are trying to make me feel uncomfy…

^ Meh. RJC '89 to me means RJC Class of '89 too XD

i predict i will be screwitlah '76… as in, 2076.

@fiona_

Lol your guess is quite off. I’m from VJC '91/'08/'09, whichever works, haha…

'89… well, might work if you can find your old teachers to write your evaluations for you? I can think of all sorts of funny situations that will arise.

need some advice (or help) here, just got back my O level results

English A2 -> from last year
E maths B3
Physics B3
Chem B4
Principles Of Account A2
Geography E8

any idea where i can apply ? looking at purdue coz of the late deadline but i’m open to most engineering colleges in general. i know my grades are pretty poor (private candidate, self study) but i’ve gotta make do with them. i don’t think i’ll need financial assistance. anything else i need to post ??

thanks in advance

^ You could try Purdue. Look at schools that has an average high school GPA of about 3.0 or slightly higher I guess?

but what are my chances of getting in ?? that’s actually my dream school. and how will they look at that nasty e8 on my cert ?? do i have to like explain it or something ??

ps forgot to mention, i’m taking my SAT reasoning this coming jan. i take it i can apply to schools first and tell collegeboard to submit my scores when they’re released ?? or do i have to wait until the scores come out before i apply ?? coz that’s like another month of waiting…

thanks again mate, you’ve been really helpful

^ Sorry, not much of an idea what sort of standards Purdue imposes on international students so can’t really help you there.

You will have to check with individual schools about that. I believe the policies are all different.
