Does anyone know where I can send in my projects to? (humanities-related)

i think edwinsque is going to stanford… and fiona_ is probably going to mit
yupz

Fiona is a stalker. Run away.

Hey! We’re almost at a 100 pages! Go Go Post!

My settings show it at 38. And looks like you’ve just found yourself a new EC. =D

I own the 100th page.

bow, all of you.

guys. long time no see.
anyone knows usually when is Harvard and Princeton’s interview? Are they important?

harvard will not call you up for interview unless you’re good enough to interest them. i think princeton will try to interview everybody, usually soon after you submit your application.

screwitlah: a bit off-topic, but you not only own the 100th page, but own 1234 posts with your next click on “post quick reply” :P

hi, i’m new (at least on this thread)

screwitlah: meaning if you dont get an interview can pretty much forget about it? How important are Ivy interviews anyway? I heard most were conducted by alumni so the schools dont really view it with lots of significance.

Aye, the columbia interview described it as a confirmatory screening process. To validate and perhaps edge you a bit in whatever direction you may deserve.

^ Hmm, that’s news. I actually thought I screwed up my Columbia interview - I thought I was too vigorous in defending my views on current affairs, etc… - but they ended up offering me a CP Davis scholarship thingy.

Actually, that may have worked to your advantage. They probably wrote the interview report on how determined you are, and how well you can think critically.

and yes Kashiva my 1234th post lol! i guess the only logical goal next would be 12345 so see you in about 10 years.

and yes no matter what harvard says about “interviewing (Singaporean) applicants only if we need more information”, the truth is that they really don’t have enough alums in Singapore to go around and would only interview the best candidates. but i have to clarify that i have nothing to base this on other than the collective ■■■■■■■ among my friends and I when the harvard rep dutifully spouted the official line and, of course, cynical common sense.

they’re not important, but for Harvard, whether you get one at all is a good indicator of your chances.

My best pal who got in said the same thing - the interview is a must.

Does need-sensitive mean how much you apply also affects your chance? Cos one Brown AO said once you apply it doesn’t matters that much what is the amount unless in the end they may decide to squeeze you in.
If the amt of aid I apply does matter, do you guys have an idea how much is a threshold btw okay and too much?

Btw, frankchn, is Columbia engineering a lot easier to get in compared to Columbia College?(with aid) How does that compare with Duke engineering?

And was your interview sometime around march?

it’s practically impossible to get into any of the need-sensitive colleges unless you have little or no financial need. they’ll determine the need for you anyway based on your family income statements and to some extent your family expenditure. if you’re desperate to get in with aid then just play with the figures until you possibly end up paying the very very most you and your family can afford, but i wouldn’t recommend it because you might very well end up making you and your family miserable that way.

if you are really determined to go to america, you should whack all of the need-blind schools, as well as a few LACs that have historically been generous to internationals. try the wesleyan freeman scholarship and carleton college, but if you want to do engineering then most LACs would be out for you.

also, the same financial aid office serves both columbia college and the SEAS, so the real question is whether SEAS is easier than columbia college. you might want to search around for past posts in the columbia forum before posting your question there, because as we all know people here don’t take kindly to attempts at “gaming” the system.
