Student body Percentage from New England

What a joke.

Al Gore, Howard Dean, John Kerry, Joe Biden
what do all these “great Americans” have in common? Other than low IQ and high self-esteem? An “elite” Boarding school education and a general lack of understanding of life.

Once again I ask what debrockman is doing on a prep school forum if she has no interest in having her children attend a prep school. The kind of aggressive defensiveness is usually a sign of some other side issue.

debrockman- No one here is attacking public schools, the Midwest or Christian values. You’re welcome to the choices you’ve made but please don’t attack those who feel the best options for their families are different from those you’ve chosen for yours. As Klements has very gently pointed out, no one area of the country has a monopoly on patriotism, values, love of family or (I would add) intellectualism.

The elitist attitude you display is a bit ironic considering your criticisms of the coasts.

Klements- thank you for your service, and your beautiful post. All I can say is
there are some crazy people out there, and anyone can be anyone on the internet. I think we’ve learned that with some of the “student” posters in the past. Interestingly, my kids’ lifetime friends from BS are from Connecticut
and Chicago, Dallas, China and Canada! One of the most appealing facets of prep school for us was the gift of being surrounded by bright, engaged students from all over the world. Our local (New England) public school unfortunately, has some narrow minded bigots and I’m grateful that they didn’t have to go there.

Are you sure that’s what you want to say for your good old public school? 'cause it sounds like a profile a boarding school student would have. How many of the 3000 students share those traits? And is your kids having those the result of their public school education? By the way, can your kids fly like birds? 'cause boarding schools teach that.

“Our local (New England) public school unfortunately, has some narrow minded bigots and I’m grateful that they didn’t have to go there.” Hahahahahaha. Oh, me too. You definitely wouldn’t want Muffy and Buffy talking to commoners. So messy and diverse. Ewww.

ALL of the kids have the same opportunity in a public school. Some of us left old England.

I couldn’t resist a quick jump into this thread.

We live in Texas - granted most Texans don’t consider themselves from the “Midwest” nor the “Heartland” but we were our own country for awhile and there is still a lot of talk here about seceding from the Union - perhaps that will qualify us a “different.”

A quick point - both George H Bush and George W Bush attended Phillips Academy (Andover) then on to Yale. You can draw your own conclusions

We recently attended the Ten School Reception in Austin and the room was packed. Apparently the Houston and Dallas receptions were similarly well attended by the locals.

I think the distance is a huge issue for many - so much so that most folks don’t even take the time to tour the schools for themselves and honestly consider the option. We toured 5 schools last month and had a wonderful time - an eye-opening experience.

Ironically, their “elite” boarding school is much, much, MUCH more diverse than their local rural public school! Much more “messy and diverse,” thank goodness. Haven’t met too many Muffy and Buffys there either, although I’m sure they’re out there. Oh wait, maybe I did see Muffy and Buffy across the field at a Deerfield game LOL. (Sorry Deerfield fans!)

Biohelpmom. Right. Rich kids from all over the world.

Debrockman, you do yourself and your points of view ill. Is what you stand against more important that what you stand for? Why not be a standard-bearer for those Midwestern virtues you claim to have? You’re having the paradoxical effect of reassuring those of us who respect and pursue the New England boarding school choice that our belief in the importance of plurality of opinion is sound. Why would someone want to adopt Midwestern values if they should leave us excluding and deriding others as you have?

Excluding and deriding has been perfected by the “Preps” and Ivies. Let’s not kid ourselves here. Diversity is not a mixture of lucky sperm from all over the world.

Again, you make my point. Are you unable to say what you’re for without speaking in the negative?

I’m still waiting to hear what values the boarding schools try to instill that debrockman is against.

I really don’t want to get involved but boarding schools have a larger percentage of children on Financial Aid then most other private schools. In fact since most public schools don’t have dress code many of the students are trying to impress each other with the number of clothes they can get from where and how much those clothes cost.

The biggest three problems with prep schools are that 1.) they are generally secular
even if they claim to require chapel. If you hold your religion in any regard, the prep school posture of holding all religions to be held of equal regard is to essentially state that you hold yours in low regard
2.) thinking that an institution can or should raise a child means that tradition is more important to you than relationship, and finally,
3.) the people you have been sending out to govern us little people all seem to be idiots.

Urban, the elitists at the rich boarding schools love to tout the statistic about all the kids they have on financial aid. Of course we all know that is only because the American aristocray that attends them has so much money that they can afford endowments that will let in a few of the particularly smart “little people” who can bolster their school’s statistics.

We need Warren Buffett to chime in about Mid American values here.

A fool, a fool! I met a fool i’ the
forest,
A motley fool; a miserable world!
As I do live by food, I met a fool
Who laid him down and bask’d him
in the sun,
And rail’d on Lady Fortune in good
terms,
In good set terms and yet a motley
fool.

As You Like It,
Act II, Scene 7

Warren Buffett has also set agnosticism before faith, and money before relationship
with either God or his family. Idolatry. Warren Buffett does not have midwestern values.
I always love people who can quote Shakespeare, but have no personal understanding of the Bible. Intellectual bankruptcy. Pursuit of human intelligence without a pursuit of God is just another kind of idolatry.
