i have no idea which college to apply to for early decision. uva or w&m. i visitied both, liked both, and am now so confused about where to apply ED. ahhh–help! i dont know if this helps but i’m interested in possibly majoring pol-sci or business. which college gives better overall undergrad experience? i’m open to any comments. i’m just sooo mixed up about what i want because both colleges were so attractive!!!

I know what you mean. I am a W&M alum from 1983, and I faced the same dilemma. I chose W&M because it is smaller, and the campus doesn’t seem so sprawled out. Either one is an excellent choice. My older son just started at UVA, and my younger son wants to go to W&M, so I guess it is a common problem. W&M I would guess would be better for poli sci, and UVA’s business school is top-notch. Good luck with your decision, you really can’t go wrong at either school.

My son faced the same issue: He like W&M and UVA but the early decision requried a choice since it is binding. We visited both, and it’s true: you can NOT go wrong with either school. While perceptions of both schools can vary in regards to strengths of various majors, etc, one fact does not change: the sizes of the schools. My son chose UVA because with 3,000 plus first year students he was more comfortable about finding his niche. Plus his high school was huge. So you need to ask yourself: Big or small.

UVA ED… u can go to the commerce school in ur third year and it’s one of the best in the nation

UVA is also very strong in poli sci. Hell, any top school is. At this point, you should focus more on what kind of college experience you want. UVA has sports, an active social scene and a more diverse student body. W&M is more intimate and bookwormish, if that’s your thing.

this is going to be a shocker, so make sure you’re sitting down before you keep reading, but… ready?

you could always not apply ED

the biggest difference is the feel of the schools. Some people like one a lot more than the other, and some would have a great time at both. But really, you don’t have to apply ED.

Well, if you were desperate to get into one or the other due to low stats ED may be your only chance. I don’t know if that’s the case here.

no, i dont think so. i have decent stats for someone in state. i still have a few more tests to take tho. i guess i’d want to apply early just to have a sense of security. i was actually going to apply oos to another school for EA, but i dont know that i’d be able to handle living so far away from home. i was just in dc for a week and yea… i def wouldn’t mind being a couple hours away.

and in regards to big vs small–i prefer small (more time with teachers sort of thing), but then again i think i’d be happier with uva’s atmosphere (more lively), although i must admit w&m’s surroudings seem a bit more quaint. in any case i’m pretty much still very undecided. i’ll probably visit again.
