@Twinmom123 I could be wrong, but it seems that, in the past, students that were offered Gateway may have written essays about extenuating circumstances which caused their GPA/rank/scores to be low. A prolonged illness, death in the family, learning disability, parents lost job, lots of moving, etc. So then TAMU gives them the summer session to see if they can perform at a higher level. Anyone can feel free to correct me, because I don’t know if my info is accurate.
@kaydeeloo and @Twinmom123 -
It was either on this thread on the engineering one that @Thelma2 mentioned that I am doing a little deeper dive into the stats.
When I look at gateway from last year - the non-scientific, self reported stats - I see opposites. High rank/lower test scores or lower rank/higher test scores. That is just looking at the the numbers - no way to factor in the essays or personal struggles.
But this is in no way official at all - and the sample size too small. We know that thousands were offered TEAM and less than 800 Gateway. And with the self reported sample from last year - the ratio of gateway to TEAM is off. Too many gateway or too few TEAM.
But that could be a product of how students react to TEAM. Looking at the actual enrollment data - Offers/student population follows a predictable pattern. The “yield.”
https://dars.tamu.edu/Student/files/Apply-Admit-Enroll-Sum-All-Fa18-incl-Galveston.aspx
Headcount Yield Headcount Yield First Time in College (FTIC)
Applied 35,566
Admitted 23,694 66.62%
Enrolled 10,759 45.41%
First Time College (FTIC) Top 10% Texas High School
Applied 12,138
Admitted 12,100 99.69%
Enrolled 5,694 47.06%
First Time in College (FTIC) 1st Generation
Applied 8,907
Admitted 5,230 58.72%
Enrolled 2,504 47.88%
But TEAM has significantly fewer students elect to take those offers - so it would stand to reason, those people would not be as likely to post on threads like this.
This is from a press release June 2018
“On Friday, Blinn enrolled its 1,000th student who will attend classes at the RELLIS Campus this fall. That enrollment includes 348 traditional college students, 465 students enrolled in the Texas A&M-Blinn TEAM Program and 187 students who will participate in the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Bryan. First-year TEAM and Engineering Academy at Blinn-Bryan students will take their courses at the RELLIS Campus beginning this fall.”
So that is less than 500 TEAM students - when we know there were over 3000 offers.
@excited4next4 when did you receive the email for Blinn-Team (what time)? Congrats on getting into college station, hopefully, we all here back this week!!
@EndInMind “plan C-Z”!!! Exactly. You are ahead of us with Plan B but my DD mentioned applying to Blinn last week. She has already been accepted to Auburn, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Baylor with money … but she’s holding out for TAMU. Her willingness to do Blinn surprised me - we are not an Aggie family though our older daughter is a sophomore (academic admit in Sept. 2016). We’re holding out this week and then I think she’ll apply to Blinn early next week if she still hasn’t heard.
I appreciate this thread and all the informative posts - especially @Thelma2 and all her insight!
@Bass02 wow, she’s got great offers-Auburn, Baylor, OK State and UArk! I can’t imagine turning any of those down.
FYI team offers are being sent out. It’s ona first come first serve basis and will fill up. So if you get that offer, accept it. Then admissions will review and place you in it. It’s not guaranteed but high probability. My goal in saying this is so that you don’t waste time wondering what to do. Research it now if you can, so you’ll have your answer!
I was also told there are still some full admission offers out there. So until you hear your fate for first year (again, it’s only your first year), stay hopeful but have a game plan!
@52AG82 Right??!! But I guess her blood runs maroon. Who knew? Neither my husband nor I went to A&M.
@Bass02 hopefully she’ll get TEAM or Gateway! Otherwise, it would be a shame to give up those other schools.
Hello everyone! I’ve been following this thread for awhile now & I was wondering if someone could chance me because I’m feeling a little discouraged given I have not got a decision yet
SAT: 1310
Rank: 112/874 (about 12%)
Major: Biology
EX: student council, Biology club, NJHS, empowerment club, ability team, physics club, MU APLHA THETA
Volunteer hours: about 200 working at my fathers podiatry office & the Christus Santa Rose summer Volunteer Program
Essay is pretty solid, I talked about my childhood growing up in Puerto Rico etc.
I’m feeling so nervous. I was CAP’d at UT, accepted to TECH but I’m holding out for A&M. Please let me know! ?
Feeling a bit deflated at the moment. Is it typical when receiving your TEAM offer for it to actually say that all full admission offers have been made? So far in this forum, that’s one thing that I haven’t seen as far as that information being disclosed when receiving an offer. I’d think that if that’s the case, A&M would just make it public knowledge knowing so many are waiting, not that they necessarily care, but it would get out anyways if they’re announcing it to those accepted? I’m so happy for the person above that received the TEAM offer, and boy would we love to be that lucky, so I hope my question didn’t sound uncaring. I think I may be in a tiny bit of denial after reading that as far as there now being 0% chance of full admission. @Thelma2 is that pretty typical for them to include that information when sending the offer? Hoping there is a sliver of hope still.
@nervoustamumommy if you read @AggieMomhelp post #3305 she mentions there are still a few full offers to come,. doesn’t sound like many, but not completely 0% for those with rockin’ stats.
Does anyone know if they do get the Blinn offer and accept, do they have to put down a large deposit right away? It’s a dumb question but it seems like they’ve made us wait this long and other schools don’t make them make a final decision until after April. We’re doing final tours in March but I also don’t want him to miss out on this opportunity if it comes up.
@AggieDreamin thank you. Just found it. Gets overwhelming to see everything with so many posts. I’m happy to see that, but I’m still curious as far as my I question about if that’s the norm when they make an offer to include that information as far as offers for full admission have all gone out… I’m sure it’s standard it’s just the first time I’ve heard anyone mention the exact verbiage in the offers.
@3TXBoys only housing deposits are required if living on campus. No other money is sent to the college. Ever! So no worries.
@nervoustamumommy It would not be uncommon for that message to be on an applicants portal who was not being considered for full admission.
@3TXBoys
As AggieMomhelp said, all that is required is the housing.
You also have until May 1 to accept any admission decision offered.
However, as AggieMomhelp explained, the Blinn Team offers are not unlimited. A&M always makes for offers than will accept and when when the TEAM spots are filled, they will be gone.
That is why she explained for those who would contemplate accepting such an offer, to get educated about it now, in order to make an informed decision instead of waiting until decisions come out and asking “How does this program work”. So, while those folks are figuring things out, the spots are being snapped up.
Admissions is only the first inkling of the things that are competitive at A&M College Station. It is like driving a 707 horse power Dodge Challenger Hellcat wide open with a bottomless gas tank.
To make sure I have this understood. . .
IF my kid logs in to AIS and gets the same message excited4next4 got (post 3271, top of p219: “In AIS, there was a notification that said all full admission offers had been announced, and it asked if I would like to be considered for admission through the Blinn TEAM program.”) and he clicks the green YES button, all he is accepting is that he would consider a spot in Blinn TEAM. This reserves him a spot in this dual-enrollment program, but it does not commit him to accepting the offer. He has until later (May 1?) to accept or decline.
Have I got that right?
@Thelma2 Just read your post about PSA and Nursing. Thank you so much for informing me. This definitely helps me feel better about going into the PSA route. I’m surprised that UT’s CAP program is no where near A&M’s PSA. Also thank you for the nursing tips! I definitely needed those!
That is a GREAT question @daleNchip
This is a brand new way they seem to be offering Blinn Team admissions
Is accepting the Blinn consideration accepting the admissions decision or as with full admissions, accepting the offer comes with registering for NSC?
@AggieMomhelp We need your help
You must select you will consider Blinn. Then you will get your offer. If you don’t then you’ll lose out.
