TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

Will they still accept me if both of my majors are full ?

Can anybody tell me how to buy my sports pass? I tried to log intro he website and it was asking for my tamu email and when I went to set that up it wouldn’t let me. Do I just have to wait for NSC or is there some way around this?

@futurenurse_123 In addition to the great advice on this site, I highly recommend reaching out to your department of interest at TAMU and connecting with an advisor, staff or faculty. This is a huge life decision, and lots of your money is at stake, so call or visit in person and get your answers so you can take your next step with confidence. A week ago we were in the dark about Blinn Team. Thanks to @Thelma2 and @AggieMomhelp and the great advice my son received from the Director of Recruitment for his department of interest, we are now sure that Blinn Team is a great fit. But that may not be the case for every situation. I have to say that everyone we’ve interacted with at TAMU has gone out of there way to help us. Best of luck!

@Wings16 If you are asking the difference between the Blinn-Bryan/RELLIS (TEAB) Engineering Academy and Engineering at Galveston, both of these are filled through main TAMU engineering admissions. Some students have been offered TEAB already, and I suspect those offers are close to being finalized. We have just this week started hearing about some offers to Engineering at Galveston. The admissions to both of these programs are coming to a close pretty soon.
Both pathways have pluses and minuses, depending upon one’s point of view. Most students offered TEAB are happy to be in College Station their first year. We have a thread on Engineering at Galveston, and you might want to look at it. Good luck/carry on.

@thelma @AggieMomhelp @MomHopesNxtGenAg Do you think that I should change my major from engineering to a non engineering major such as business as my first choice since I feel like I have a better shot of getting blinn team than blinn engineering academy with my stats? Sorry for the confusion, but I feel like engineering is extremely hard at the moment to get into also I am an review admit and want the best option available to choose from? Also do I have any chance at gateway or blinn team for my second major (business) if engineering is full?

@funCzIES TAMU’s Engineering Academies are separate! Whether you are accepted into Economics or not is irrelevant.

The Engineering Academies other than TEAB are separately applied to, but students there are ALSO co-enrolled at TAMU for their engineering classes taken from TAMU professors at these more distant locations. The TAMU Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham is a 100-student program wherein the students all live on the Blinn-Brenham campus in a new dorm. @trinley is our expert on this program. The TAMU Engineering Academies at HCC, ACC, etc., are smaller programs but also well established pathways into CStat engineering. I know the TAMU professor who teaches at HCC, and he is a good man.
I really, really encourage you to apply to any Engineering Academy that sounds good for you, whether the residential one at Blinn-Brenham, for example, or HCC. It’s super easy to start an Academy application–and it’s not too late at all! All the Academies have some very strong students. And as @trinley has written, the costs are much lower.

@sma1234 Business admissions at TAMU for next fall have long since filled up. It was probably the first major to fill up last fall. I would guess that there might be one more set of Engineering at Galveston admission offers. If this year is like last year, engineering admissions will be trailing off pretty soon.

Please take a hard look at what your strengths and interests are right now. What direction seems best at the moment? If you’re not sure, that’s fine. Changing your major to business will not help you with admission to A&M right now. Tell us your thoughts and let us try to strategize with you. Sometimes people with wide interests enroll in a school with open admission so that they can change majors freely. Is UH an open admissions school?

@MomHopesNxtGenAg Are there still more TEAB offers left to come? I`m feeling really depressed now about my chances. My backup plan is to do business specifically finance at UH, build up my gpa, earn required credits and hours for transfer and see how it goes and then transfer to UT preferably my sophomore year.

Has anyone received an offer specifically for TEAB at McCallen? One of my son’s classmates said he got an offer, and that it was just for the McCallen campus, not Blinn and not Galveston.

Edit. Sorry, I didn’t mean to type TEAB before mccallen.

@sma1234 This is just my second year here, and based on my limited experience, the TEAB offers go out, at least for the most part, then the Galveston offers, followed by Gateway, which is a decent-sized group, then PSA. I want to share my experience with transfer into UT Business: it’s almost impossible. I mean it.
Are you most wanting a business degree? If you want to transfer to another more distant school, you might consider Tech, UT-Dallas, Texas State, or some others. These all have good business programs. Have you considered business with an engineering minor, or engineering with a business minor?
If you want A&M engineering, you CAN get there via one of the engineering academies besides TEAB. Why not apply for an academy–either Blinn-Brenham or the one at HCC? Then just continue to think about which path you want to take, engineering or going to UH for business perhaps
 Here is the academies link:

@CamandCam This is the first we’ve heard of McAllen offers this year. Was it for engineering or another major?

He said Engineering, but I’m getting it second hand through teenage boys, LOL! I’ll try to get confirmation.

@MomHopesNxtGenAg

@sma1234 Another thing you can do is to quickly determine whether other schools you are interested in have admission deadlines still in the future. Many still do. I would research this in the next day or two. Don’t wait, just act. Otherwise, study at UH and try to transfer later. But please do not expect to transfer into business at UT (or A&M). But there are lots of schools out there!! You are trying to sort all this out, and we admire you.

@sma1234 as a review applicant to the university your admission decision to the university is going to come with, and is tied to, your engineering admission decision. Changing your major at this point isn’t going to help your admissions decision. Major has nothing to do with being admitted to the university. Your review for engineering has to do with what decision type they will offer you, if any.

If you really want engineering, applying to one of the engineering academies would be your best option. Brenhem is similar to being in Blinn/Bryan engineering Academy. You can still get a sports pass, you still get the Aggie welcome banner, you can go to games, and you are on a path to being an Aggie. If Brenhem isn’t a possibility due to distance, there are academies all over the state from San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, etc.

Engineering applicants are not considered for Blinn Team.Gateway is a program that no one is 100% sure what the qualifications for the decision are so I have no idea if you could be offered Gateway.

It’s all too easy to get paralyzed and not take action, even with something that seems viable. That’s the time you just open an application website, start typing, and push submit. You can continue to gather information and weigh your options later, but give yourself the option in the meantime. Simple!

@CamandCam OK, McAllen for engineering (possibly). Thank you for the info.

What is the difference between Blinn PTA or just enrolling at Blinn and transferring when you have enough hours? Secondly, it looks as if they take prospective nursing students from Brazos County first. So someone would have a better chance doing Blinn PTA than attending TX State and trying to get into TAMU Nursing, correct?

@txmomuv2
PTA is a program that you must sign on to taking classes for that major only and guaranteed admission to that major after you complete the program. It is not a doorway to getting in under one major and changing to another one that doesn’t participate. Same with transferring in from another institution.
There is a thread about going strait blinn and trying to transfer. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/texas-m-university/2127345-going-strait-blinn-rellis.html#latest
Yes, consideration for upper level nursing is given to those who take their pre nursing at A&M or in Brazos county. Most upper level nursing programs will give considerations to students who complete X science hours at said university and/or X overall hours at said University.
PTA does not participate in the pre nursing majors so that would not help her. I am not sure how many spots A&M has each admissions cycle to upper levels but applicants from TX State would be considered behind an applicant of the same caliber that attended A&M or perhaps Blinn. That is not to say that they don’t get in and if she had a 3.8 Science and overall GPA, she would be considered over lower GPA’s from Brazos County.
If she attended Tx State, she could and should apply to her home universities nursing school as well as A&M. Also consider UT Arlington and Texas Women’s in Dallas.
