@Thelma2 “Liberal Arts is not the largest population for incoming freshman nor is it the largest college population on campus.Liberal Arts runs about half of what Engineering is.”
Those figures likely count all engineering students on all A&M campuses.
Liberal Arts is the largest college on the College Station campus. If that’s wrong then someone needs to tell all those Aggie tour guides that they’re giving incorrect information. Because not only did they say it, it was a trivia question on the tour we took two days ago.
As for the rest, so kids are just supposed to ignore what admissions counselors, A&M reps and high school reps are all telling them? Nevermind. Don’t answer that. This is pointless.
As a Blinn TEAM student, are you able to get on-campus housing, such as Clements residence hall, rather than finding an off-campus apartment? And if TEAM students can room with TAMU students if living on-campus?
@AndyyBuii Blinn TEAM is allowed to live on campus. You’ll need to paying $75 housing deposit immediately, to get in line for a housing slot (given later-check Howdy portal for details).
You’ll need to have several housing options in mind, as it fills up quickly, and those who were admitted & paid housing deposit months before you will have first selection.
I can’t log into my AIS or Howdy since around 1pm today, but it was fine in the morning. Is there a reason for this? Are they updating my status or something?
We are still anxiously awaiting my daughter’s review decision from TAMU. I emailed TAMU Admissions today and was told the decision would come by “early March at the latest.” My daughter was accepted to TTU, and they gave her a very good scholarship offer. We haven’t been able to schedule a visit to Lubbock during one of the “Select Tech” events because of various conflicts, but we are going to an upcoming Raider Roadshow scheduled for our area. If she likes what she sees and hears and she hasn’t gotten full admission or Blinn Team from TAMU, we will definitely make the 6 hour road trip to Lubbock. A couple of weeks ago, I put a deposit on the “Women in STEM” dorm at TTU. My daughter thought it would be a supportive place for her. (Good that I made the deposit, because that dorm looked to be full as of the last time I checked.) It’s very encouraging to read the positive comments about TTU posted on this thread. My daughter’s first choice is still TAMU for Geology, but I think TTU moved up in her estimation. As someone else said in this thread, TTU has made her feel “wanted”.
@cmehope you definitely need to visit Lubbock! West Texas is a land of it’s own…and you either love it or hate it. I?it! Nothing beats a West Texas sunset! Campus is large, and much prettier than TAMU. Lots of school pride, great athletics, Greek system and super friendly, laid back campus.
As of this late date, I’d definitely go for the school that is showing interest, clearly wants her!
We are also waiting on a TAMU decision and like most that are still waiting, we check every morning :). TAMU in CS is is number 1 choice for our daughter. She’s been accepted to her #2 (Purdue), #3Baylor and #4UH. We are in the process of deciding between #2 & #4 (#3 gave her money but not enough to make it the cheapest). Cheapest will be UH then Purdue (we’re from TX, so OOS tuition for Purdue). Just would like to get a feel from all of you if Purdue is worth the extra $ over UH. (Im asking this question in this forum because this is the only CC forum that I comment and feel part of :). She is not going to major in engineering. Thanks for your input.
Au Contraire, @NotanAggie I posted the link and you can put in the fields for College Station only.Yea, you need to make a phone call. The official publish data and reports don’t lie.
Complete published reports where you don’t have to fill in the data: Numbers are consistent
@aponiventoy I would say definitely Purdue over UH. I guess depending on the major; if Hotel-Hospitality Management, you can’t beat the Hilton College at UH. UH Bauer Business is good, too. But Purdue would be a no-brainer for my daughter (who did seriously consider Purdue, she just didn’t know anyone going there). Three great choices!
@learner234 ‘reserve’ isn’t really the right term. If you know someone who has a higher dorm selection spot, they can bump up one person (I think?) for a roommate, but you’ll have to find a room with 2 open beds-which can be difficult.
@jcms3110@AggieMomhelp and I are HUGE Oklahoma State fans. Both of our daughters started out there. My D put in hours and hours of Pomping for the World’s Greatest Homecoming. We were standing about 50 yards from the site where the woman drove through the parade crowd in Fall 2015. My dad played football there in the 50’s. GO POKES! Stillwater is a great town and great school spirit.
I don’t know anything about which major/college has the highest number of students, but I can say of the double digit college tours we took, hands down, A&M was the WORST. My husband is an Aggie, and he was mortified. We have heard this from multiple people. It wouldn’t surprise me, at all, if the tour guides are giving wrong information.
@aponiventoy from Midwest perspective, Purdue for reputation. UH may not be as well known outside of Texas. However, my son visited 8 schools as part of his college search and Purdue was his least favorite campus and he ruled it out immediately. I didn’t think it was that bad. I would recommend a visit if possible.
@aponiventoy , didn’t UTD make your list as a strong CS contender? Your student is directly admitted to CS in Purdue? Full pay OOS? (I see you have health sciences, not computer science at Purdue, my bad maybe on acronyms?) Entry stats for Purdue CS would be pretty competitive.
@aponiventoy Regarding your college decision, I’d be reluctant to pay OOS for Purdue (and I’m a Purdue grad!) unless you’re able to easily afford it. Don’t base such a huge financial decision just on rankings. About 30% of kids change their major (source: https://nces.ed.gov/pubs2018/2018434.pdf). If the major changed, would it still be worth it? Also, is grad school a possibility? If so, then I’d save the funds for grad school and attend an in-state school for undergrad.
