TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@pbleigh Definitely will look into that as one of my options for ETAM after my freshman year thanks. Hopefully I`m interested!

@Taabla18 Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective on going the straight Blinn route. You are spot on about the importance of getting involved on campus.

Some clubs/organizations have an application process and they can only take X number of students, like the FLO’s (Freshmen Leadership Organizations), some have time committments and dues, some are just interest oriented with no minimum time requirements/dues etc.

Here is a link for looking at organizations/clubs broken down by Category https://stuactonline.tamu.edu/app/search/index

@sma1234 You will need to look into the major of Industrial Distrobution before you apply to a major through ETAM. You must list the majors you want in order of preference. If that major is not listed on your application, and you are turned down for those on your list, you can be subject to having only available to you what they then offer you.

I posted the link to the ID major on the engineering thread. If you will look at the course requirements, you will see that they are very close to what the Business Minor from Mays is. You can join the Business Club and many from the major participates in a Sales Initiative Competition and other events.

@sma1234 my son will be applying to Industrial Distribution and plans to minor in business. But, that is a year away for you. The freshman emgineering class will expose you to multiple majors. You will have class inits to,learn about them and you will attend an all day session on a Saturday in CS that will give you even more info and allow you to learn about your options.

@2xAggieMom Excellent! That sounds ideal for my daughter also. Thank you so much for your experience. I hope this is at least what we have coming and not a denial outlet.
Thanks again!

I forgot to mention that the Aggieland Prospective Student Center at 979-458-0950 can help answer specific questions. We have called them about PSA topics over the years.

Does anyone know what the chances of getting gateway are at this point (if even possible at all)? The button to change my major is gone.

@Thelma2 how can I tell which organizations take Blinn students?

@txmomuv2 I would assume you’d need to go thru Blinn Student Activities (or whatever it is is called)? I’m sure Blinn has their own clubs, groups, etc.

@taylorv01 gateways have started going out but no one has any idea how many more are to come. hopefully everyone will have an answer in AIS soon.

I have no idea what to do. If offered PSA (which I assume is the case since my change of major button is gone) I would take it, but they don’t offer my major in that program (economics). I could do PTA at blinn or anywhere for example, but I’m scared of not knowing anyone at a&m the following year when i would transfer, which would make my living situation difficult. Also, since you turn in the PTA form at the end of freshman year with your grades, wouldn’t that make it impossible to live in the dorms for sophomore year?

@52AG82 We have been to Blinn and know what they have available. @Thelma2 made a comment above saying how important it was to be involved if you are straight Blinn and provided a link to TAMU activities. These threads get so confusing and sometimes answer several questions in one comment. I wouldn’t think TAMU organizations would take Blinn students.

@sma1234, a lot of students are pretty exhausted during their senior year. But you have only about 55 or so more class days, and then you will be at graduation, and summer break will be here! I counted the days down to graduation with both my exhausted kids, and I highly recommend the same to you. I posted the number in plain sight and decremented it by 1 every evening. You are almost there, friend, and we promise you that college can be different from your current, very demanding high school. Try to hang in there the best you can.

As @trinley and many others have pointed out, there are many ways to blend business studies with an engineering degree if you so desire. Would this work for you? If not, go to UH, try to get into an honors program, and get your business degree. You could even do a technical business specialization, like Management Information Systems. Does domething like that seem more interesting? There is kind of a continuum between straight up highly technical engineering work and the least technical aspect of business, for example. You can figure out in time exactly where on that continuum suits you best. There will be a major and specialization for that niche at any big university.

When I have a difficult decision, I try to gather more information. There are lots of ways to gather information. You are going to do a TAMUG campus visit, excellent!

You have all the time until May 1 to make your best guess and let the universities know. Just decide that you will decide later, when you have collected a bit more information. You will also keep gathering information as you go in college. It’s a wise person who admits when they don’t know something, but then go out and try to find out. You are a fortunate person to have such good options. We’ll be here to try to help. All is well.

@aggieTay01 I am still in review and lost the request change of major button yesterday! I applied for biology. I know of a lot of people with great stats that have applied for biology, math, or chemistry and have not heard any news.

@waitingagg I’m not sure about dorm selection as transfer but I can promise you, from experience, many off campus housing complexes do roommate matching. My daughter did this and always had great luck. Most complexes you are signing just for your room and common area. You’ll fill out info about yourself and they match you to someone else. You pay your rent and they pay their rent. I loved this as a parent because I didn’t want to be responsible if the roomie didn’t pay on time.

She lived at North Point Crossing, Aspen Heights and the cottages. But I really believe that most do this type of housing.

Any idea when the official offers will come out for PSA? My change major button is gone. Do you think they will come out tomorrow?

@AggieMomhelp thank you I had no idea that off campus housing complexes do that!! That just took some stress off! I think I may do the PTA route in order to keep my major as economics. Did your daughter also do the PTA route or straight transfer?

@WaitingAgg I’m assuming that the PTA is the same as the PSA in that the student is not “officially admitted” until the spring grades are received. Because A&M dorms fill so quickly, my sons were never able to live on campus here. As @AggieMomhelp said, a very large number of off-campus apartments lease by the room and do roommate matching.

On the topic of losing buttons a friend of mine had a thought about it ( she did not apply to A&M but knows quite a bit about admissions processes because she has connections and what not but I won’t get into that). This is just a thought and it kind of makes sense, but doesn’t follow the pattern from previous years. My friend said, “What if they take away the option to change majors so that the university can decide who goes where?” and she thought that since it’s getting late (she considered March 1 late), applicants might freak out and start changing majors left and right and how it could possibly be a hassle for admissions. Does this make some sense?

I know people have said “majors don’t matter” but I was wondering if each college has to enroll a certain number of students each year? Like to make sure that they’ll have people in seats for certain programs so certain programs won’t die out
(?) So does the college matter? I’m also curious/find it funny how a lot of students who want to be in the college of science and college of liberal arts haven’t heard back yet (not just from my school, but schools in my city and across the state), it just seems really weird to me.

Anyways, I’m just thinking out loud. Don’t take this to heart.

@WaitingAgg Oops! Sorry- we were typing at the same time.
