TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@52AG82 My D was a review candidate for UT Austin and TAMU. At this point, I have to wonder if UT’s holistic review is actually more holistic than TAMU’s. They did require several short answer responses in addition to the essay. It’s possible they also considered the rigor of her non-ranking public high school more in her favor. For example, the senior class of 2018 with 641 graduates produced 63 national merit semi-finalists (60 finalists) with 87 commended. In the end, we’ll never know, but yeah…it kind of seems out of balance.

Is the UT full admit for CAP’d? @ronan and texas true?

One of my students just got PSA this evening. Can anyone help me with an answer for him? He was planning to go straight Blinn if he didn’t get in full or TEAM. He’d like to at least view the school choices before deciding, but doesn’t want to commit. If he accepts so he can actually see the choices, does it commit him, or will there be an option to withdraw after viewing? His major is English is that helps. Still two tonight that didn’t get a decision ?

It seems that Mays might need to go the way of engineering and review all admits, no? At least fro some majors within Mays, more rigorous options, or are such majors more self selecting than eng majors might be? When did eng make that shift? Was the main driver drop out numbers or over subscription?

I’m worried also. My daughter pushed the button a little too fast today and it seems she actually “accepted’ the PSA offer. And she does NOT want to go to any of those schools at all.

It seems there is a very wide spectrum of applicants who are getting PSA this year, many of whom who could likely have gotten at least TEAM in years past. Is it possible admissions is giving PSA more since technically it can be completed in one year, whereas TEAM takes about 2? I know they had such an influx of talented applicants this year, and maybe PSA is what they viewed to be the quickest pathway to full admit.

@Sybylla I don’t understand your question. My D is full admit at UT Austin, not CAP’d. Is that what you’re asking?

@Sybylla Engineering went to holistic review for the major for the class of 2021, those entering Fall 2017. It too, used to fill up by auto and academic admits about mid November. Prior to that, according to the Data reports, the 1st year retention rate was in the mid to upper 70% range. Since then, it is the low 80%. As of 2014, which is the highest percentage thus far, 31% graduate within 4 years. 911 students out of 2926 who began the program. 5 yr graduation rate is 55-60%. 6 yr graduation rate is 57-63%.

Mays on the other hand has a 92% retention rate after 1 year, 58% graduate in 4 years, 82-82% in 5 years, and 83-84% by 6 yrs.

The engineering major is more rigorous and difficult in math and sciences than business and many may be interested but don’t have the aptitude for the major.

@stillhopeful581 The incoming class is said to be smaller for Fall 19. Fall 2020 was 9696, Fall 2021 was 11,205, Class 2022 10,758. What was reported at a meeting @AggieMomhelp attended in January, the incoming class is shaping to be around 10,000-10,500.

@Hailbop16 Hitting the Accept PSA offer to see the schools isn’t accepting the offer formally. She would need to submit the school she was interested in. Only then will A&M send her application into to that institution. Sounds like she’s not committed.

I’ve been co-piloting most of the admissions process and visits with my son. My husband has been on the ride with input here and there, mostly about finances offering his opinion here and there. This morning we were discussing PSA, which my son quickly dismissed. My husband made some good points so I wanted to make sure I’m understanding correctly before I present to our son. His PSA offer listed his first choice major, and I was not expecting that. Since business hasn’t been an option since (day one, really) October, I had just assumed he would be offered PSA with his second choice, Sports Mgt. But, his first choice major is still listed as Business.

I just want to make sure I’m correct: following and meeting curriculum requirements for PSA guarantees a spot in business? Or would second choice majors still be a factor when transferring over after meeting the requirements? I just assumed business would no longer be an option unless a full admit.

Hi all. My DS received PSA as well. He has found his place at Texas Tech and declined the offer. Best of luck to everyone!

@TexasTrue since UT requires Top 6% for auto admit, I’m not understanding how your daughter got into UT, but only PSA af A&M?? What am I missing, was she holistic review for UT?

Denied and offered PSA. Looks like it will be FSU or UCF

My daughter is in the same boat UT\PSA. Hard decision as we are an Aggie Family…

Daughter got PSA yesterday. She will consider it but not likely she will go that route with her other options of Purdue, IU, CU Boulder. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

@TexasTrue I just reread your former reply to me. I can’t even comprehend the number of Nat Merit kids from ONE Senior class?! WOW! And yes, it appears UT did indeed take that rigor into play-lucky for y’all! I hope your daughter is taking the UT offer?!

I got PSA, I was two points off my English ACT score of getting academic admit. Must say I am surprised at this and disappointed will not be taking PSA.

Just got psa too

@laxmom You need to check the majors under the PSA offer buttons. My daughter’s first choice is still listed as Business, but once you hit accept you can see the drop down list of majors offering PSA. Business is not one of them.

You hit accept offer, then accept the conditions of PSA, that will take you to the list of majors and schools offered to your child. The list my daughter sees is much longer than what the PSA page on A&M website shows, but it does not include business.

Another day and still in review?

i got psa but what does that mean? lol
