@rockmom21 I can’t provide any guidance on the OOS part but wanted to let you know that my prayers are with you as you navigate this decision and process. [-O< It will all be ok but I know that doesn’t make it any easier to come to terms with emotionally.
Rockmom, you will be full pay at TAMU as OOS? I see she has some merit options at other schools. But you are looking at >$50K a year for Blinn team? I don’t pray but I do math and IMO if you have a much better COA at other schools, and cost is such an issue, you should take the best offer. Do you want to list the COAs at the others schools, and consider which offer direct admit to engineering, and what this all looks like if she changes major. TAMU is a big state school, you have access to UCs, CSUs, WUE. All big state schools with ABET.
@rockmom21 you will absolutely be in my prayers! You do have a tough decision. Praying for guidance & clarity!
@rockmom21 There is a Facebook page title Aggie Moms and Dads of Current or New A&M Students. (Or something like that…) Once your student has been accepted, you can ask to join. It is great place to get answers about the College Station area from parents of present Aggies. The main reason that I am mentioning it to you is because there are several moms on there that live in CS and have offered to help when another’s child is sick or needs assistance. One mom, last year, even offered to have students come to her acreage and hang out in nature and play with her dogs when they were stressed about school. I also saw moms volunteer to deliver soup to sick students. It’s just nice as a parent far away to know that somebody is willing to step up and help your child. Prayers for your family.
@Sybylla we are hoping she will join the Corps at some point for additional scholarship.
Even if she doesn’t, Blinn Engineering Academy dramatically cuts down our OOS cost for the first two years, basically in half years one and two.
It’s years three and four which will be pricey.
But you can’t find the Aggie culture just anywhere. Thank you for your comments! At U of Utah she received WUE, but she will have a gpa requirement of 3.0.
At Embry Riddle same GPA requiremt.
She didn’t get into SLO (yet but seriously unlikely), and all other Cal states are fine. But not spirited like TAM.
@2xAggieMom THANK YOU for this FB group tip!!! I didn’t know about it! I just requested to join!!
@52AG82 thank you!
@rockmom21 OOS mom here too. My oldest will be headed to TAMU CS for engineering this fall. Our mantra has been what’s 1225 miles. I joined the FB group too, it’s been a wealth of information. You and your family will be in my prayers!!! ?
@rockmom21 I have a son that is a junior in the Corps. There are a few Corps moms groups and your daughter will be well taken care of by local moms. And the cadets themselves really take good care of one another.
I’m trying to gather information to help my daughter make an informed decision regarding her PSA offer, and I thought I’d ask some on this thread for advice. Both PSA and PTA guarantee admission to Geosciences (her 1st choice college). PSA seems like it would be easier to achieve with the 3.0 GPA / 24 hour course load than PTA with its 3.2 GPA / 30 hour course load. Another factor to consider is that attending one of the system schools would be more expensive than attending our local community college here in Texas. (I’m not concerned about my daughter achieving a 3.2 GPA, but I did point out to her that PTA was “riskier” than PSA for that reason.) I know there are some considerations regarding AP credits, too. There’s also the “full college experience” that doesn’t really happen at a community college. Are there other pros/cons that I’m missing for each of these alternative pathways? Not sure if my daughter will take PSA or PTA or commit to another school, but she is considering these options. Any advice would be much appreciated!!
@ErRnMom that’s great!
What is your home state?
Is he full CStat or doing TEAB?
@CMS1234 This.
She’s a little daunted by the Corps schedule! Not completely, but enough to give her pause.
She’s also doing TEAB so worried about commute to Rellis (fitting it in), in addition to her Corps responsibilities.
I think she can do it.
She tried out for Aggie band at SNWC … she is a percussionist: snare. If she makes it, then that might make a huge difference! I am praying that she will make the Aggie band.
Either way I am proud of her!
Thank you!!!
Public health major, my change major button just disappeared, so for all yall still in review after March 1 we might be expecting something soon
My son’s is gone too. Sigh. Decision coming this week then. At least the end is nigh! Finally!
My daughter’s is gone too!!! Thankful that a decision is now eminent and we can finally move on
@jaceyK yeah, it’s nice to know we are finally at the end of it. idk if yall are full a&m or have other options in mind but i would serious consider PSA, if that’s what we get, especially at tamucc. I visited the campus back in late fall and it was really nice. It is literally on its own island. The dorms are really nice, like reallyyy nice. the faculty and students seem great. I directly applied there too so I will have to decide whether to go straight there or PSA… either way good luck
@noah4151 My son would have to change majors to consider PSA - BIMS is not one of the majors listed for PSA or PTA. I think that if it’s McAllen, I might be able to convince him to at least check it out and see if he can transfer to cstat after one year. If he doesn’t like McAllen, then it will definitely be UH. Well I say definitely but the Merry Go Round he has us on can change that to maybe in a heartbeat! LOL!
@JaceyK id like to apologize on his behalf for that merry go round, because i had my parents on the same thing lol. We visited Lubbock and well there they loved as i thought i did too until i had five hours to think about how i really didn’t
@noah4151 LOL! Yeah the car ride definitely gives you enough time to reflect back on these things. If you get McAllen or PSA, are you going to check out McAllen? And if PSA, will you do TAMUCC?
@noah4151 HEHE…we visited Lubbock last weekend and I honestly thought that she would like it but 1/2 through the tour she gave it a no-go but mostly because they just don’t have a major she likes not because there is anything wrong with Lubbock. And yes, the drive is a bit much. You must be in the Big D too?? 3.5-4.0 hours to TAMU is much better
