TAMU Transfer Fall 2019

Hey guys! I’m applying for the College of Education for Early Childhood-6! I applied with a 3.57 GPA with 49 credits but I will finish this semester with 60. I’m getting my associate’s degree in May and I was wondering if that increases your chances of getting in?! I’ve taken about 75% of the transferable course work. I got an A in college algebra but that’s the only math I’ve taken. It says that “College Algebra is a transferable course but will not satisfy the Mathematics requirements in this degree plan”. They also say you should have two maths and two sciences. Like I said before I’ve only completed one math and one science. My other science class I’m taking right now and they say classes in progress are not considered in transfer admissions… I’m trying to figure out if I should worry or not haha! Someone tell me my chances :frowning:

I should mention that they have the words “should strive to complete… etc.” but under the “transfer requirements” on the second page they say “should”. here’s the link… I’ve been re-reading this for hours trying to wrap my head around if I’m okay or not. http://admissions.tamu.edu/admissions-staging/media/Main/pdfs-transfer2018/ED18-EC6andMG.pdf currently 2am crying!!!

@gigemsis How many classes are you missing on the recommended list? In my opinion, nothing will stop you from applying, but I think the fact that you are missing both Math’s it will be hard for you. I could understand if you took one already and was in the process of taking the other but by missing both, I see it being hard for you to get accepted. Just my opinion. I do not know anything about this school as I am applying to Mays. Good luck and gigem. Try to take the classes over the summer if you can and see if TAMU will accept you for fall. If not just apply for spring.

@gigemsis are you currently taking Math 1324? If not, then there is really no chance they will accept you. Especially since you will max out in hours at 60 at the end of spring semester. I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but honestly you have an extremely slim chance. They may say they don’t look at current classes, but they do. They may defer decision til grades come out, but they will see that you’re completing your science requirement.

My suggestion… if you aren’t currently taking 1324… find a community college that offers this course on like an 8 to 10 week basis online. This way it’ll show in progress. I wish someone had advised you before you had so many credits. Planning on transferring requires a lot of forethought and planning and most students just don’t have the experience/knowledge to do this. It’s a learned thing for most. If I can help you in any way, let me know. I’d be happy to look at other majors that may be similar and allow more college credit to transfer in.

On the flip side… your GPA is great!

Has anyone received they transfer audit yet???

I submitted my application 1/02. Major is Agricultural Science and my second major is university studies in geosciences. I have the required class (math) for admission.
College transcripts were received 1/07; took about 2 weeks for them to be processed
Account is complete and in review.
no transfer audit yet
I have 37 credits from 2 different colleges. I have one dropped class, which was math. But I have math 1324 and 1325. I made a D in Animal Science but I took it again and made an A.
My gpa not including my D is a 3.2
My gpa including my D is a 3.0
Kinda nervous cause I think they will count my D in animal science towards my gpa.

They will count it but great job pulling it up to an A. To me that shows a lot of grit and perseverance. I think you have a great shot at admissions. Was your essay spot on with passion for the major etc? They love that stuff.

Howdy Everyone! I submitted my application on 1/1/19 for construction science. I currently have 34 dual credit hours but only 15 towards my major with a 3.74 for all 34 hours. I am currently and blinn and have taken 12 hours including math on recommended coursework with a 3.25. I am currently taking physics which is the other recommended coursework on the list and have taken classes on the transfer course sheet.
Good luck to everyone and hope to hear back soon!

@AggieMomhelp Hey thank you. I wish my advisors were helpful but honestly, they weren’t. I don’t know what to do as I’ve already applied and didn’t select a second major. is there any way you could help me? I’m not taking any math right now. If I take both at some other school how will they know? I also think my college (lone star) has an agreement with some schools? That’s why I wanted my associates because I thought I would get in. Now I’m having doubts.

Ugh that’s frustrating. I would call the advisor in the department and ask their advice. By taking the math classes you will be over the 60 credit mark. You may need to reapply under different major or add on a second choice major if allowed. I’m so sorry. Call advisor first then admissions. They process app first before sending to department for decision.

@wonderlust1There are 6 courses on the recommended list and I’ve taken/taking 4. On the bottom of it, it says that if you’re completing an associate’s before transferring, to align your coursework with the recommended below. I’ve taken 12/15 of those

@AggieMomhelp I could drop two of my current classes and maybe take those maths? Are you allowed to reapply twice for the same year? Do you know of any majors where I would have a good chance in? My app is currently incomplete so that’s a good thing.

IF you Q drop 2 classes that’s scary. You only get 6 total in Texas. Let me look into some other majors.

I wrote essay A and C. I noticed on the transfer course sheet they wanted my essay to be about wanting to pursue a teaching degree in ag science so I wrote about wanting to do that. @AggieMomhelp

@AggieMomhelp I think we are still allowed to drop without receiving a “w” as we just started classes on the 14th. Thank you so much for your help. I emailed an advisor! Hoping to hear back soon.

Oh that would be good. I was referring to Q drops not Ws and we are past our time here to drop without it being a Q.

Howdy guys, I applied to Mays on 1/2 with a 3.85 GPA and all coursework done with 60 hours except the MGMT class. I have 2 rec letters also. However, im super scared about 2 things. In my first semester of community college, I took a development math course that doesn’t count as college level and recieved a C on it. I’m sure it’s not transferable but will it affect their decision? Also this last spring semester, I took 5 classes and withdrew from a science elective (biology) and got a W on my transcript. Will either of these 2 things affect my chances? All this talk about Qs and Ws got me worried.

Thanks!

So the C from freshman year shouldn’t impact you at all. Mays however is very competitive, especially for transfers. The W or Q is looked at, but one shouldn’t hurt you. They would look for a pattern. Like 1 a semester or 1 a year for example. Everyone is allowed an oopsie. = )

3.85 is solid GPA but just over the minimum of 3.8. They will look to see how you did in Accounting, Math, econ,English primarily. How did you do in those courses?

@AggieMomhelp I got all A’s in the required and recommended list besides math. I made B’s on both 1324 and 1325. Unfortunately I suck at math :frowning:

lol, it’s okay @alirhasan96 many people do, but Bs are good too, so no worries. What did you put as second choice major?
