@all What information do we need to upload on AIS? My college transcripts have been received and so has been my essay. Do I need to send my high school transcript and Meningitis Record or is that only if I’m admitted? Just curious if there is anything required that I have to upload.
@AggieMomhelp thank you, that is really comforting to hear! I submitted my application on January 2nd and wrote a really passionate essay, so all that’s left to do is wait patiently.
I am planning to transfer to Industrial Distribution for the Fall semester, only thing is that I am going to take CHEM 1409, which is one of the recommended coursework for admission in the Spring. Should I still apply for the Fall?
@dclugom1998 yes, I also have a course that I have to finish in the spring for the required coursework, but since you are applying for Fall they have time to look at your spring courses. I am not sure how different it is for engineering, but I spoke with an advisor and they said it was perfectly fine. You just have to send in your final spring transcript after you finish the course.
I went to the transfer information session yesterday to find out more information about mays. Found out the business law class will not affect admissions purposes. That class was only placed on the transfer course sheet in order to prepare transfers to be junior ready. That class is only listed because if you went to A&M your first or second year you would have taken it. If you did take it great if not you will take it your first semester at TAMU. I was told it was a “washout”. Also was told only about 500 applications make it to the mays school the others die in the admissions office for reasons like not having required coursework done or having too low of a GPA, south of a 3.5. Mays informed me that a 3.8-3.9 is the average with 3.7 being the starting point of competitive apps. I told them my stats and they took my name and told me to definitely apply. transcripts will take about 2 weeks to show up in AIS.
Applications will be in the office of admissions until the beginning of February when they are sent to the school you applied to and mays transfers won’t get acceptances until around beginning- mid march
@wonderlust1 Thank you for providing the information that was given! Did they say anything about LoRs or ECs, or were they just saying that the way the school decides is by GPA and hours completed? I am nervous because I do not have any Letters of Recommendations or and Extracurriculars, other than 480 hours of volunteer coaching since '14. Just wondering if they mentioned if the lack ECs or LoRs would hurt my application. Again Thanks for the info and good luck the 2-month wait starts now, keep us updated!
@Walker03 this is what I could remember from Friday. I put this together myself based on what I was told so it’s not official or anything…
Level of importance (10)
Round one: Completion of all required coursework before applying. Those that fail to do this are rejected.
Level of importance (9)
Round two: All A’s in the required course Work. Those that fail this are pushed to the back of the line. Regardless of GPA.
Level of importance (6)
Round three: Junior level upon applying. No other TAMU major list this… “Preference is given to applicants ready to join Mays’ junior class upon arrival at Texas A&M.” Those that fail this are placed behind the ones that are juniors, but before the ones that did not score all A’s on the required coursework.(*)
Level of importance (5)
Round 4: GPA highest in the front lowest in the back (favorites going to juniors). All majors list… “Admission preference is given to applicants with the highest GPA and the most appropriate courses completed.”(**)
Level of importance (4)
Consistently all A’s. Example: a student that applies for Fall 2019 that had 1-2 poor grades in their first semester is better than a student that started out with A’s in college then made poor grades in the middle/end. The first shows progress and stability, the latter shows regression and uncertainty.
Level of importance (3)
Junior upon arrival (not at application, graduating in the spring)
These students will be placed directly behind the juniors upon applying. Keep in mind TAMU considers all classes in the spring to be incomplete and therefore will not consider you a junior if you are graduating in the spring. (***)
Level of importance (3)
If by somehow you still have not been accepted or rejected it goes to your essays/ec’s/ jobs(unless you served in the military) that’s a big help.
(*) If the gap between GPA’s is substantial between an applicate that is a junior upon applying and a student that is not a junior/junior in the spring prior to enrollment, then this can be undone. EX. Junior has a 3.6; another student has 4.0. The second student will come out on top. This is still contingent upon how many hours away from being a junior. Fewer college hours you have the higher GPA you need.
(**) Note: TAMU considers all grades including repeated courses and WF. The only grades that TAMU will not consider are classes that are not considered academic by the Texas higher education coordinating board, Technical/vocational/workforce education. These classes will show as NTRN.
WF=F
IP=Spring classes will not be considered.
I=F
Ex. Student takes Math 1301 and fails (0.0) then the student retakes the course and makes an A (4.0). Transferable GPA= 2.0.
TAMU is very unforgiving of any failed courses what so ever. If you have an F period, it’s like a death warrant. Can’t say 100% impossible to have one and still get accepted, but highly unlikely.
(***) reason for this is that in the past students would register for a lot of classes (say they normally take 12 hrs, they registered for 18) to make their transcript state that they would graduate in the spring, upon successful completion, just to find out that the students grades either dropped significantly or that the student withdrew from courses after transcript was sent and would not be a junior, though their transcript said otherwise.
Hope this helps
@wonderlust1 Thank you so much that cleared up a lot of questions I had! Good luck and hopefully we both become Aggies soon!
Howdy!! I sent in my application for the College of Liberal Arts a couple days ago, hoping to major in communication. I’m an out of state applicant (I live in FL), I have a 3.9 with 36 hours (spring classes not included), am a member of Phi Theta Kappa at my community college, have a decent amount of extra curriculars, but not many service hours. I believe my essay was compelling on my future career, what I can bring to TAMU, and how TAMU can help me. There was only one required course and I’ve taken the equivalent to it!
I’ve still been extremely stressed on getting into TAMU and wondering what you guys think my chances are. And also when College of Liberal Arts decisions will come out. Thanks!
@iwannabeanaggie8 I think you have a great shot of getting in! I believe liberal arts does rolling admissions but I am not quite sure, expect an answer around February! Good Luck and keep us updated!
Awesome, thank you for your reply!! I’ve heard that being out of state can either hurt you or help you, which is why I think I’m so nervous. I will definitely keep the thread updated
I took Shane stibora for BUSI 2371. I took the online class and it was pretty easy as long as you study!
@wonderlust1 Awesome info! Makes me feel very confident and super anxious to hear back.
I’m pretty surprised that BUSI 2371 doesn’t have any affect at all on an application though. At the very least, the unspoken favor that Blinn students receive from admissions has to be at least some benefit but I guess there’s no hard evidence for that.
Keep us updated on your status! They finally received all my documents, so I’m just waiting for my Transfer Audit.
Hi everyone, I mailed my transcripts from my school last week and got an email on January 4th saying TAMU recived my transcripts, but on AIS, it doesn’t say they received it. Is this normal? I sent it to the Transfer Admissions Processing, so if I should resend it somewhere else please let me know!
Thanks!
@iwannabeanaggie8 I’m on the same boat. I guess it’s normal and it’ll probably show up in a few days. GL!
Okay cool that makes me feel better! Keep the thread updated on when yours processes and I’ll do the same. Good luck to you too!
@iwannabeanaggie8 totally normal. Id wait until Friday before contacting admissions to confirm they received it since you already have a confirmation. AIS takes awhile to update. They receive them when you get a confirmation from your sending institution, but it takes a few workdays to update on A&M’s end. This was the case for mine.
@excgunnar okay that’s what I thought but wanted to make sure just in case, thank you so much for the help!
Did you send the transcripts by mail from your college or did you have the transcripts in your possession? I requested my transcripts to be sent from my college/dual enrollment colleges and have not received anything from TAMU about them.
