It’s their ranking of where they fall in their class. TAMU uses this ranking as one of the criteria they look at for admission.
Plenty of 2nd qtr kids getting admitted and 1st qtr kids still waiting. So unsure how it all comes into play on their application grading system
Since its now February… is all that’s left is PSA?
I must say this type of rolling admissions first to main campus and then to all options are really stressful for those waiting. We applied late in last week of Nov (OOS) and May’s was already full by then. Still under review. Probably, they should just send denial letters if the majors are already full. After going through this process, colleges with set decision dates seem to be best approach.
For those of you who have a student that still really wants to be Aggie but thinks they may be getting denied, remember that Texas A&M Galveston still has their application open until May 1st. You may be able to find a major similar to what your student wants to study, attend there for a year and then try to transfer up to college station. This is what I did when I was not accepted to TAMU 25 years ago. I applied for Zoology at TAMU but was denied. I then applied to TAMUG under Marine Biology and was accepted. My plan was to stay there a year and then try to transfer the next year. My plans changed when I decided I wanted to try their Marine Biology/Biomedical Science double major and stayed there for 2 years. When I moved up to College Station to start BIMS I decided that the double major was going to be too long and found out that I was only losing 6 credit hours if I dropped the Marine Biology. So I dropped it, stayed in College Station as a BIMS major and ended up graduating in 4 total years. I LOVED Galveston and from what I understand it is even better now. You have the chance for two Yell Practices as Galveston holds theirs on Thursday nights so that students can go to CS for the Friday night Yell Practice. And best of all, you get amzing football tickets. My freshman year in 1999 for the Bonfire/Texas I got tickets that put me with the seniors from CS. They got sick of my Wild Cat really quick and gave me permission to WHOOP! It was truely amazing! I just wanted to share all of this because one of your students may find that this is a good option and it may be worth the shot.
Good suggestions for those who still want to come to Texas A&M. As an OOS seeking Business Finance/accounting major, only direct admission to Mays if one can get it makes sense. Galveston would also be a good choice for many majors . Colleges are no longer cheap, spending 1-2 years to get to into a school with no assurance that it will happen is always risky.. better to explore other options which guarantee the major one wants and complete graduation in a timely cost effective less risky manner. This is my view and i tell my kid to be never be too attached to any school be it even an Ivy league. What matters is what you do in your chosen field in college and upon graduation in career.
Remember, Galveston has Maritime Business Administration. I have two friends who started in that with the intent to transfer to CS and just remained in Galveston because they loved it. One is a lawyer now.
Love all the Galveston talk. Great school and campus. Not to split hairs but for sake of knowledge and clarity for those new to this… if you attend Tamu Galveston, you change majors to one that is offered in cstat main campus. It is not a transfer. No application, no fees etc. same rules apply to any students wanting to change majors (regardless of starting at Galveston or cstat campus). Hope that makes sense.
My opinion…if she wants to be an Aggie, absolutely take it. It’s almost the exact same student experience, just a couple of classes each term at Blinn (almost always the RELLIS campus)…which btw is a bit better on your pocketbook.
Outside of that, again speaking of student experience, there is NO difference. A&M student ID, “the admissions banner,” access to everything in student life (rec center, sports pass, can join any student org including Greek life), can live on campus (though it’s probably full)…the whole 9 yards. And please believe me when I say, on campus, literally no one cares.
Several of us who have ‘28s that got into Team Blinn have started posting here lately, you’ll get the exact same feedback.
As a parent, I would also say that knowing she HAS to hit the requirements to transfer into her major upon TB completion (certain classes, at a certain GPA both in those classses and overall) has helped my daughter stay focused. Grades are excellent, she’s in a sorority and another org, really living her best life. She’s never been happier.
Again, if A&M is at or near the top of her list…to me it’s a no-brainer.
Very true about the “hair splitting”, it is exactly how you told it. I just messed it up.
Really appreciate the feedback! Great post. A&M definitely is at the top of her list.
Oh gosh…a Facebook post in a 2029 group this morning said they spoke to admissions and they can see how many times you look at the portal…..
Now THAT’s embarrassing!
Haha, they should send email notifications like everyone else! Maybe that will = demonstrated interest?
Has anyone OOS (or in state) been accepted to the School of Nutrition? Does anyone know when letters of denial will be sent? The waiting is really difficult!
Yes. Mine walks all over and rides the bus easily for past two years. She even rides the bus to the grocery store and back.
My son was offered the 3 options two weeks ago and his first choice major was nutrition. We haven’t heard anything since.
My daughter, in state, applied 8/1 to nutrition as well and has heard nothing. I agree, the waiting is hard.
What are your daughters stats & scores?

At this point we realize it’s is a “roll of a dice” so many with great stats and worked extremely hard to be a well rounded student as my student has.
Her goal is nursing school so a PSA she would not take since she has been accepted to several schools for nursing. She would happily take Blinn Team or Gateway, her #1 choice is A&M she has done all the things possible to show her interest and her top choice to be an Aggie.
So we patiently wait, and know ultimately she will land exactly where she is suppose to.
Good stats, daughter sounds amazing!
Does she have any direct admit Nursing acceptances? If so, I’d take those in a heartbeat!!
This has been mentioned before, but A&M Nursing is INCREDIBLY tough to get into. It’s a small program. If she’s set on Nursing, I’d go anywhere but TAMU.
