Hi sorry if this question has been already been answered but how long after the change major button disappears do you receive a decision?
Thanks

We got on the housing Waitlist on 3/7/24 and finally got placed in a dorm on 6/21/24. We were one of the ones that chose TEAM only last year and had to wait a grueling 5 weeks for confirmation of acceptance. There’s a chance for sure!! She’s at Hart Hall, which we wanted for location and price but lots of folks were getting placed in Southside dorms.

You were fortunate. I don’t ever recall Waitlist starting so early…not a good sign.
Love Hart Hall-great location & tons of character!

Typically PSA decision follows with a day or two. Many have had their button disappear but not many have come back to post if they did in fact get PSA that I recall. I’ve slept since then tho.

Back in 2021 when my son got PSA, his AIS updated with the PSA decision about 2-3 days after the change major button disappeared.

My kids portal change major button has been gone for more than 7 days now. No 7 table in Howdy. Still AIS and Howdy says in review. First (Mays) and second (Arts and Science) second choices are still there as well as College Station location. Not sure portal timeline changes for PSA can be reliable this year. We don’t expect anything but a rejection. so moved on from TAMU.

My change major button has been gone for a couple of days now, maybe ~5 ish. No 7 tabs, no location change, nothing. Expecting rejection

Still nothing in AIS in spite of Howdy message to check for a decision. They could have waited to put the message in Howdy if they weren’t prepared to post decisions. Another issue with being unable to handle the number of applications properly (IMO).

Definitely strange they haven’t flipped the decisions yet on PSA. You will not get 7 tabs with this decisions, FYI.

I still believe there are full admits coming for leftover open majors. Just not sure if they’ll only go to those that had the options email.

Until you have a decision… there is hope.

Galveston questions. Is there any guarantee, during the ETAM process, that they will be accepted to cstat? Let’s say they don’t get the 3.75 gpa, could they get rejected from all of their engineering choices at cstat and have to stay in Galveston? Or could Tamu offer them McAllen randomly? We want to move forward with Galveston but don’t want any surprises after that freshman year. The goal is to get to cstat.

If you don’t get the guaranteed gpa, you will likely get one of your next choices. @FriscoDad has all the stats on the different majors within Engineering.

They will never send you to McAllen. Ever. They will not have you stay in Galveston unless you are wanting Ocean Engineering.

I believe you select your top 5 choices. From there, surely you’d get one of those. If not, then maybe it’s time for self reflection and what major outside of engineering would better suit you for future success.

Main advice is talk to a Counselor and guarantee is a big word. That said I think Galveston is a fantastic school and option and honestly a lot of kids are happier there than at CStat.

The data distribution is the same for ETAM participants from TEAB, McAllen, Galveston and main campus.
Overall on average of 4400 freshmen from all these locations last five years, around 300 dropped out after first year. Eventually, in 4 years around 600 dropped out. But note that dropping out didn’t necessarily mean the student failed, many students changed majors to other departments. So if based on the percentage for first year (ETAM) students, about 7% left engineering major (drop out, transfer out or change major)

ETAM results provided the actual data. In Spring 2024, 75 of the 3,249 Eligible Applicants did not matriculate into a COE degree-granting major. That’s about 2.3%.

The ETAM results stated 74.4% got into their first choice major. It was a little misleading because those were their ETAM first choices, not necessarily their original applying majors during admission. That percentage was not published but believed to be much lower (around 35%).

Gleaning off of this comment, I am in this group and the one on Facebook. Many parents over there are very worried about straight up rejection at this point, due to loss of buttons and no update in AIS for a week now. Do you have any insight? I know for so many there is frustration, but also loss of hope for any pathway. I haven’t been down this road, as my sophomore was an auto admit two years ago. Any insight you may have would be wonderful. Thanks so much!

Honestly, I wish I did, BUT AO is going rogue on this one. Usually once the change of major button goes away, it’s PSA. On rejections, I feel most just wake up to a letter in their email. No one really talks about that part of the process. With tamu decreasing admits this year and going into the next few, they may have to limit psa as well. I don’t have a stat on how many successfully go through PSA.

I know spring break is a long time away, but I’m sure everyone will have a decision by then. If they don’t have a rejection yet, then there’s always hope.

There’s also the PTA pathway that is a guarantee and driven by the student, not an offer by tamu.

Hello all I am new to this and have been reviewing all of the previous comments and appreciate the insights. I wish I would have found this Thread earlier but wanted to share that my daughter received the options a while back and selected both Blinn and Waitlist. Yesterday she woke up to 7 tabs and today her AIS updated and she was fully admitted to CS into her first choice major Kinesiology. As Christi Stated there is still hope.

Thank you so much! Being on this side of the process through holistic review has been exhausting to say the least. I know A&M posts a timeline, etc., but the kids not even getting emails to let them know they have an update is brutal, along with not knowing how the admissions cap will effect them…I know everyone is stressed. My daughter is set on A&M no matter what, she just wants to know what she is going to have to do to get in now. We will keep praying and hopefully everyone will start to hear back soon. Thank you so much!
