Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

EA in October. Bio. I also forgot to mention that he already has a semester of dual enrollment college classes completed.

Unweighted, His school is large for a private Christian school and Very rigorous and I just cant understand the 2nd quartile placement. He also already has a semester of college classes (dual enrollment) under his belt which I forgot above…
What about your child? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Only Engineering has EA.
OOS, test optional, 3.5 could be a tough admit.
Hopefully he’ll hear back early-mid January :crossed_fingers:t3:

Is there a way to share that he would be 10-15% at the school instead of second quarter? Most Texas schools provide quarter breakpoints or A&M has a good idea where the breaks are by school. A 3.5 UW GPA is on the lower end for top quarter but not at a rigorous school with lots of APs.

He submitted in October, you’re right, he just let me know as well that they didn’t have an EA as other schools submitted at the same time did. We shall see. One of the tour guides at A & M said that after the Texas top 10% guarantee, all other applications both in and oos are evaluated in the same pool with no preference. I wonder if that is accurate. a nail biter for sure.

Did your son submit SAT score? It helps a lot if the GPA and ranking is not satisfied. If not, I think the chance to be accepted into CS is small.

The equal review of Texas non-top 10% and OOS may be correct. However, the OOS yield is substantially lower due to high OOS tuition rates.

Hoping for the best. Do you know how long it takes after the kids become Texas Residents to get in-state tuition?

That makes sense, would you know how long it takes to become a valid Texas resident if accepted, in order to get in-state tuition?

Your child is dependent or independent. If dependent, your or your spouse must own a house in TX for 12 consecutive months before the first date of academic year.
If your child is independent, he must own a house in TX for the similar length of months too.

It is NOT easy-or fast- to get Texas residency, for A&M in-state tuition.

Thats great information, so dependent currently, but if he became independent & bought a house/residence in TX prior to August of entry 2025, sophmore year he could qualify for in-state tuition?

Your child sounds like a great, well-rounded student with solid values and academics. He should have a TAMU regional admissions advisor assigned now that he has applied. I’d consider having him reach out or asking his private school’s college counselor to reach out to ask if TAMU needs any further academic information, as the student is concerned with the second quartile placement in TAMU’s system. I know that even in schools that don’t rank, college counselors will sometimes give an estimate if it’s critical to a university’s admissions system.
My OOS student applied EA in September and was admitted to Engineering in College Station. As I mentioned, our public high school does not rank, but the school itself is highly regarded. GPA was not on a 4.0 scale, but can be converted, roughly a 3.7 UW and 4.0 weighted. Six APs, 12 honors. AP Scholar. Submitted strong SAT scores. Probably would be top 10-15% if they did rank. Very strong ECs with leadership positions. Great LORs and essays.
Best wishes for a successful admissions season! It sure is a long road.

Wow. Congratulations to you and your family, your son sounds so very accomplished and I am so glad you are all set in your position at TAMU. Thank you for the advice, I will definitely have my son speak with his counselor about contacting TAMU regarding his 2nd quarter placement. I truly appreciate your time & thoughts! Happy New Year.

Yes, I will try to have my son reach out to TAMU via his school counselor. thank you. My sons school is know to be rigorous.

Here’s the link for residency.
Besides ownership, I think they verify with voter & car registration, drivers license, utility bills, etc-to establish the domicile.

He would definitely like to be a resident of Texas, so most of those could be accomplished fairly quickly. The house is the most time consuming of the process but well worth doing. Thank you.

You’ll definitely want to work with a realtor.
Prices are high, listings can go FAST-close to campus.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend living far from campus, and if not walkable, it NEEDS to be on the Aggie bus route.
Not living on campus freshman year isn’t ideal (imo) especially OOS, students just miss out on a lot. He needs to be close-Historic District, Northgate-ish or behind College Station City Hall.

I have no real expertise to share, but in addition to all of the solid advice from the other parents, I would call the Aggieland Admissions Center located on campus (the Prospective Student Centers in other cities are helpful too…but in my experience, talking to the counselors on campus has been a little more informational). Ask to speak with an admissions counselor. They have sign ups for in-person and virtual appointments, but it looks like virtual is filled up through January, so since you are OOS, I would call the number and nicely ask the receptionist to let you speak with a counselor about this one question. Maybe they will squeeze you into their schedule since you don’t need a lengthy visit. I would bet they will help you. Again, I have no real knowledge here, but those are the people who should know whether there is something needed to improve your son’s ranking from 2nd quartile. I certainly would ask…it can’t hurt! I’ll try to post the link here. Good luck to your son! Still waiting to hear on my daughter’s application too…it’s so hard to wait! Aggieland PSC | Admissions - Admissions

I disagree that instate and out of state or considered the same as for admissions. Because we are a state funded school, i believe there is a percentage of instate students who must be admitted over non residents. I’m not 100% sure on that, but I was told this in the past. I feel like there’s a bucket that has to be filled for both in and out of state.. mainly for money purposes in both cases (funding vs. OOS tuition).

Next wave should be around the 2nd or 3rd week of Jan. if all holds true to past cycles.. however, I don’t think we got a wave in December, did we?
