I don’t know when 1300 became something to be ashamed of, but he certainly shouldn’t be! This is something I hate about this process. These kids who work so hard, and have EVERYTHING in the world to be proud of start to feel as if they aren’t measuring up. Such a kick in the pants!! All this to say, I’M HIGH FIVING YOUR KIDDO AND HIS KILLER STATS!! :raised_hands: :raised_hands: :raised_hands: (And I know YOU aren’t saying 1300 isn’t good enough—but this process certainly makes you wonder if it is!!)

I’m over here hoping for your son! Would be great if both of our boys are proudly wearing that uniform next year together. Keep me updated on his status!

Unfortunately, yes a solid 1st quarter student could get a pathway option, or could even get PSA. A pathway option is something that should be celebrated because so many qualified students will not get even that. Test scores are important too. And sadly, a 1300 is not considered all that competitive at A&M. It gets more and more competitive each year.

We got it too. Public non-ranking school, unweighted, 3.97, applied as nutrition major, Eagle Scout, leadership, band, etc, AP and dual credits, Act-29.

Hello! You are a wealth of information! My son received an email with the subject “Waiting is Hard… But We’ve Got Some News Coming Your Way Soon!” Any thoughts on whether this means something? The email mentions checking out alternative pathways.

Girl this has been a support group for many years but I agree, not many from last year have joined back up to lend moral support for the newbies.

Don’t stress about that. Probably a group blanket email but I do highly encourage everyone to look at the different pathways. There’s at least one more round coming for full admit for holistic students.

Any knows about Gateway pathway entry to Mays major?. Is it 3.8 GPA requirement to enter May’s major, similar to Blinn Team pathway to Business. Seems very high GPA requirement and destined to weed out students who try this pathway. Any stats on success rate through Gateway for Business school? thanks

Yesterday my son’s OOS friend in VA received his banner. He applied in Nov and his SAT score was 1500. I’m curious to know if he got into Mays since he applied so late!

It will be (slightly) faster to attempt to change majors into Mays, coming from Gateway, which is General Studies major vs TEAM.
A 3.8 - 4.0 is required either way, with all required prerequisites. There is no easy way into Mays.
Like TEAM, Gateway can only be offered, very small program.

I have a question (and again, I apologize as I’m sure this has been answered)…re Housing and joining the Corps. For students like my son who has yet to get an official offer, is housing with the corp filling up? Do they always maintain space for incoming freshmen regardless of when they get accepted? Is there anything we should be doing preemptively? If/when an acceptance letter does come, whether it’s full acceptance, pathway, etc. What is the very first thing we should do regarding wanting to join the corp?

no worries about corps housing. my son is in the corps and they have more housing than they use. some of it actually is available for non-regs. so if you are in the corps, you are in corps housing, regardless of when you get accepted. plus, no roommate hunting or dorm room selecting with the corps-- it’s all done for you.

as far as “what to do first”, have your son do a spend the night if he has not. I’d recommend doing more than one since you can stay with different outfits and see if you vibe with one of them. otherwise, research the units by going to instagram, etc. to get a feel for the differences (and yes, there are differences. some focus on PT (exercise), some on service, some on academics, some on sports, etc.). also, he’s needs to determine if he wants an all-male or an integrated unit. your son will get to select which unit he would like to be in and when they time comes, he needs to be prepared.

eta: this is funny but my son says it’s fairly accurate.

Thank you!! So helpful.

He stayed with the corps back in September and fell in love with it. Was 100% sold. I will tell him he he can do it more than once! Thank you for that advice.

My question may be a dumb one but isn’t A&M still a test optional school? So just confused as to what carries the most weight with an applicant? Rank/Test Scores/? GPA? Do AP scores even matter or is it all based on class rank and SAT/ACT? Just got me thinking when reading the post about 1300 SAT being low.

Disclaimer - I’m not meaning to be combative if that is how this reads, just genuinely wanting to understand.

Totally valid question

Rank, SAT/ACT and everything else is a very distant third, fourth, etc. including GPA.

Test optional doesn’t mean test insignificant. It means they will consider you holistically without test scores but higher scores absolutely elevate the applicant.

Got it. That would make sense why advisor in August shared that the scores won’t hurt you but can help if above average if your other STATS aren’t great. Interesting.

thanks
