Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

I think SAT score and essay play a role in my son’s full admittance. He took SAT only one time during the first semester of his junior year and his score is 1530. He is top 18% in a school of CYPRESS ISD. He has 9 AP Classes, GPA is 6.55 (weighted) out of 7. Actually, I don’t feel confident with his application due to his low rank. He applied rather late at the beginning of Nov because he had to wait for the recommendation letters. Only 3 weeks later, before Thanks Giving, he is admitted into Engineering.

Those are amazing STATS especially within Cypress ISD which is a huge district! Congratulations to him! And to get a 1530 right out of the gate - WOW!

Just thought I would jump in to add our experience with our two boys. First son, Class of '26 applied in Oct '21 to Mays. He was assigned a 2nd Q ranking, 32 ACT coming from a non ranking private college prep school that has a pretty good track record of getting kids into A&M. He received the “options email” in late January '22. He selected the option for both waitlists. In February of 22, those that selected Team Blinn waitlist, received admission around February 14th. Our son was fully admitted on March 3rd and ended up at the very top of the temporary housing list for dorm housing. Ag Business was his 2nd major. I am not sure why he wasn’t placed directly into Ag Business but when he was admitted on March 3rd and Mays was full, he was asked to choose from the remaining open colleges. Ag Business was open and so he selected it. He was moved off of the temp list about two weeks later and ended up paring with a roommate that put down a deposit in February '22. They ended up in Krueger Hall (Commons). Interesting enough, his test scores were hight enough that he was offered the chance to apply for honors in Ag Business. He applied and was accepted. He LOVED the college of Ag. Really great space that takes care of the students. He absolutely did not have a perfect GPA and honestly wasn’t sure if he even wanted to change to Mays bc he really loved what Ag Buis offered. Once he took his first Acct class, he realized that he really enjoyed accounting. That is the one area that he would really need to transfer to Mays to receive an Accounting Ba. He chose to apply to Mays at the end of last spring (May '24) so end of Sophomore year and was admitted to Mays within 24 hours. His GPA was a 3.62. Again, not perfect but within the range provided by his TAPS advisor. He is in a fraternity and played club lacrosse. He did great last semester and just applied to the PPA program and was admitted this past month. Wild ride for that kid so far that wasn’t admitted until March 3rd!

Our other son applied on August 9th '24 for this cycle and for Mays. He attends the same school, was assigned 1st Q and had a 1370 almost perfectly balanced SAT. He was admitted in the first wave of holistic acceptances into Mays. Housing deposit was paid immediately and he is registered for his NSC.

My advice is to really explore the options that may be provided. Team Blinn is a wonderful program that in hindsight my older son would have probably selected if we knew then what we know now about the program, but ultimately, it all worked out.

I love this entire journey for your older son. That’s amazing. Well done. I try to drill into parents that it really does work out. Regardless of where you start (whether that’s a school or major or pathway). They will succeed and find their way.

Congrats to your youngest as well.

Wondering if anyone knows scholarship oppotunities that OOS engineering student can apply for sophomore year, that can be counted toward the in-state tuition waiver?

VERY difficult to get scholarships as upperclassmen, that would equal in-state tuition waiver.

My die hard maroon blooded son was just admitted to Texas, yet we wait for our alma mater.

He’s got UT and UGA on the table so some great options and it will work out however it’s supposed to.

Come on Ags….:+1:

Congrats! What major was he admitted to at UT?

For UT he applied first choice Econ which is his second choice at A&M and the one we are apparently waiting to hear on since Mays is said to be full.

Agree with this :100:

If it makes anyone feel any ray of hope, my son was accepted in October and his SAT score was 1270. He had a lot of other accomplishments and is also very focused on the program he applied for (Visualization) so I think that it truly was a holistic review for him. So while his SAT score isn’t what would be considered competitive, it ultimately didn’t exclude him from receiving his acceptance letter.

CONGRATS to your son!! And to you! He should be so proud of himself and all his hard work. No doubt the visualization department had gained another talent. (I’m an artist myself, so I have a soft spot for anything pertaining to the arts! And the young minds pursuing their dreams in those fields)

Has anyone heard of acceptances since the holidays?

I just scoured the long 2028 thread. Here’s kind of a timeline I saw for the next round:

1/17 Team admissions
1/19 Engineering full admit
1/27 Gateway offers
1/27 3 option emails went out

Those that chose Team Only didn’t hear back til March 5th. That’s a huge time gap from prior years. But it appears they all received TEAM.

I got busy so haven’t gone into February yet.

Thank you, coming soon!

Ah thanks so much!! We are beyond happy and excited for him to follow this path to an animation career! I know he’s young and anything can change and who knows what the future holds, but for the foreseeable future it’s great that he has a strong sense of what his path is and he’s all in!

To that end, he’s trying to secure external scholarships to ease the financial load for our family. He made a video for Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)’s Take Care of Texas campaign. They hold a video/scholarship contest every year for high schoolers to help promote personal responsibility in conserving water, reducing waste and air pollution, etc.

We just found out his video was one of 6 that made it to the semifinal round!

This next round comes down to a public vote!

From now through 5:00pm Friday, Jan 24 public voting will be open to determine the top 3 videos to be judged in their final round.

If anyone would like to help support a future Aggie… we’d be so grateful!! :folded_hands::folded_hands::folded_hands:

Voting is easy, just click on the link below, vote for Joshua Burgos Rivera in the 9th-12th Grade category. No email required.

The top 3 videos will receive a scholarship award which my son would LOVE to apply towards his goal of studying animation at TAMU!

Thank you!!!

Same. Impressed with most of those videos. I would have chose him as winner regardless. Loved the cowboy nod at the end. Well done.

There is someone on one of TAMU Facebook pages who seems to be saying that their child received the email offering TEAB, Galveston, McAllen for engineering today. Did anyone else get this? It seems a little early but then again there are a record number of applicants.
