Can we expect gateway decisions to start rolling out soon?

I bet this coming week - Gateway will start rolling out.

I’m so glad everyone is receiving quick decisions after the 3 options!

I think my sons downfall will be submitting TO & applying late (early November)

Hang in the there - sounds like an accomplished and well rounded kid.

TO probably a bigger influence than when he applied, depending on major. Reason being that rank and test scores are by far the biggest factor for holistic- far more than GPA, extracurriculars, service hours, essays and letters. So without a test score it’s tough. Heck it’s tough even with strong test scores!

Hope it works out for him.

My son applied early September and we haven’t heard anything yet! His scores are good. Admitted to Civil UH I guess that’s where he would end up.

Construction Science is major.
Then why on earth do they say Test Optional and that it won’t reflect admissions decision??

Daughter is 1st qtr, 101 GPA (top 10% was 101.4), submitted 27 ACT score, AP classes, varsity sport, leadership positions, volunteer service, etc. National merit Hispanic commended scholar. applied 8/1. crickets…

Test optional does not mean test insignificant.

It means they will still evaluate the applicant as part of their holistic review process, but strong test scores are absolutely a factor in elevating and separating candidates.

What you may be referring to is their claim that submitted test scores will only be considered if they help the student and will not hurt them.

I have my doubts about that claim personally but that’s just my own skepticism. It’s hard for me to imagine that if a student submits an SAT score that is several hundred points lower than the middle 50% range, an admissions officer can ignore that.

But officially they say test scores only help.

Yes they have pulled people off team the last few years we’ve seen it happen but very very very few.

I am feeling a little overwhelmed. My kid hasn’t heard anything (no offers of Blinn, no 3 choice offers) which is painful. I’m trying to keep straight everything everybody is saying but wondered if I am forgetting something. Basically it seems like, if my kid isn’t one of the 350 that get offered Gateway, then it’s over. Is that pretty much right?

I’m not sure if all TEAM offers are finished-maybe an Admin has more feedback.

In addition to Gateway there is also PSA.

Yes, thank you, my confusion & flustered state made me temporarily forget about PSA. I guess it’s kind of off my radar because my kiddo doesn’t want to go to Tarleton etc. Just not interested in it…at least for now. This is really tough.

Thank you for all the information. It is vast and a bit overwhelming. But nonetheless, informative for sure.
My question is this: if my daughter does not get accepted to Blinn TEAM or Gateway, can she still register and attend Blinn? Then after 2 years transfer to A&M?

Yes! Lots of kids go “straight Blinn”. But the application process is totally separate from taMu. There is no connection. Just go online and apply to Blinn and meet with an advisor to make sure the classes will transfer.

Look into PTA program…my daughter did it at Blinn and transferred to A&M after one year. Very doable just read everything carefully and make sure she has a participating major!

You got the answer already but feel free to reach out via messenger. I’m happy to walk you through it and explain how it works and the pros and cons.

Does anyone know typical stats of Gateway offers? From what I have read- it seems like it is not for the borderline GPA/SAT students- those get Blinn. But rather those who have struggled a bit but show promise. The kids who are not top quarter and may be test optional or lower SAT scores but show exceptional leadership, ECs, essays, recs or have a great story. I’m thinking it’s something in the very holistic application that stands out to the admission officer?
