The Amazing Race!

Sounds like a good one. I missed it because of the Rangers game. :(

It was definitely a nail biter, that’s for sure! I think I am rooting for the snowboarders, as they seem so laid back. Remind me of the hippies, who won a few seasons ago, or Jet and Cord, my all-time favorites.

It was sad to see the twins go as they really worked hard and seemed to be having fun.

I feel sorry for Ernie who feels he has something to prove to Cindy. Sounds like he doesn’t feel adequate enough for her.

I’m rooting for the snow boarders or the older couple. I think we all have to realize that our perception of all of the participants has to do with how the film is edited. Ernie’s GF may have said something about how she was always making mistakes or how proud she was of Ernie and they just didn’t put that on the tape. They must have a lot of unused footage that would give us a whole different perspective on the racers.

I liked the twins enthusiasm for the elephants. I bet they were okay with being kicked out - they look like people that get the most out of whatever they do. Back to real life!

Actually once they are kicked off they go to a resort location and “hide” out with all the other eliminated contestants until the finale - so that’s a decent consolation prize!

Youdon’tsay - you catch the entire episode online. Several places including Hulu and CBS.

Great episode. I think I am rooting for the NFL guy and his wife. The father in the father/son team annoys me. I like the Snowboarders, and actually think they will win, they don’t seem to get stressed and have the advantage physically being two young fit guys (dudes?).

My money is on the snowboarders.

Was anyone else bothered by the snowboarders’ comments regarding the Buddhist temples? Something like “our God is the true God, if you read the Bible it’s pretty straightforward.” Yikes. People on some of the other TV forums out there were having a fit. Jennifer’s comments about being respectful were much better, imo.

Yes. The comments were rude and inappropriate. It has changed my view of both of them.

I cringed when I heard their comments. To me, part of doing TAR is getting to experience other cultures.

Totally agree… I thought they were going to launch into the usual “experiencing other cultures and religions is such a privilege, etc.” Then it took a turn… giant cringe! Kind of odd that their huge religious side is only coming out now!

I’m curious how the snowboarder comments were rude and inappropriate. They were just expressing their beliefs. I don’t think it was disrespectful or rude.

I remember going to India and participating in a Hindu ritual, and at the same time, believing something differently. Why is that wrong? I love to experience other cultures, but that doesn’t mean I can’t hold different beliefs from the culture I am in.

Sometimes it feels like we have quit allowing people to hold different beliefs and express them publicly. If some people would have made a comment about a Christian church or the cross, or something similar, I doubt if people would be up in arms.

Now, if they would have said something to the people at the temple and criticized their religion or beliefs to their face, I might have been concerned. But, they were just making a statement about what they believed.

Not surprised that the religious side is coming out now. Don’t forget that these shows are highly edited. You see what the producers want you to see.

Me too so I think they’re presently at the bottom of my list although it’s unfortunate to put the kid there just because of his annoying father.

It bothered me and I thought it was disrespectful.

That temple went out of its way to accommodate the show and the contestants and it’s likely that they as well as many locals will end up watching the show (assuming it’s possible there) and given that, they should have just kept their mouths shut about the religious aspects since it wasn’t necessary to the task anyway. I’d feel the same if it was flipped and the Buddhist contestant was making the same remarks at a Christian church or a temple. I think one of the other teams made a couple of remarks as well but they were more respectful.

True. It’s sometimes easy to forget this.

I’m still trying to figure out my favorite based on personality, which is the primary basis of why I want a particular team to win, but this year’s been difficult since there aren’t any teams I find particularly annoying but the father/son team is now at the bottom and the snowboarders are sliding down there as well (although I think they have a good shot at winning).

Not only do the producers choose what we see, but as contestants, surely they forget that the camera is on them constantly and in the heat of it all, they aren’t watching every word they say. So, some things they say, they surely don’t think about it showing up on America’s tv screens.

^^ True. I’ll bet a lot of them cringe when they watch the actual episodes they were in.

Maybe it’s just me but I think it’s incredibly rude to be in a place of worship in another country and to make the following statements:

This statement was made with the temple representative standing there so it was obviously heard.

I absolutely agree that there is heavy editing of this show. It’s been very clear in previous seasons particularly, that certain teams were presented in a light that wasn’t necessarily totally accurate. However, editing can’t put words in an individual’s mouth that they haven’t actually spoken and in those two instances, it wasn’t a heat of the moment comment that they wouldn’t expect to be broadcast.

Alwaysamom, I don’t disagree with some of your statements above, but really, for all we know the statement “we know the one true God…” could have been their response when the cameraman asked something like “You 2 seem pretty religious. What let you to your faith decisions - the bible?” We just don’t know.

Maybe other teams made similar statements there. Maybe we should actually be upset at the producers for deciding this is the type of statement they want to show footage of.

I don’t love what they said, but I will also say that much of their other behavior is very positive and caring - even towards their other competition - so I can get past this.

abasket, I agree that they were probably asked a question but the response I quoted was preceded by “I don’t feel any weird vibes coming here”, so the question was likely more along those lines. It was a stupid and disrespectful thing for the producer to ask and equally stupid and disrespectful for the team member to answer as he did.

I totally agree that they were probably led to have that comment by producers looking for “their angle” - but usually it is to highlight something that will come to bite them in the butt later on - like they will clash with another team on religion - or their religion will affect their performance on something (like not running after that chick walking away with the clue?) This isn’t the first temple - religion didn’t come up at Borobudur. Really, I think if you were doing the race - your mind is on the clues and performing the tasks, not gettting lost and finding good cab drivers - you wouldn’t be stopping to comment on your views on the bible unless someone asked.
