Yes. But it’s been established on the show that he graduated from college at 14 (S03E18) and that his first Ph.D. is from Caltech (S12E04). Tam Nguyen appears to be 14-15 in Young Sheldon, so would graduate HS roughly the same time as Sheldon graduates college. So I’m interpreting that Sheldon was miffed that the 2 did not live together at Caltech - Sheldon as a grad student and Tam as an undergrad.
While true, I’m not sure that Sheldon is specifically referring to undergrad. While Howard did get his master’s from MIT, it’s never been stated if he went there for undergrad.
We may find out more in future seasons of Young Sheldon. But based on 2 seasons, I cannot imagine Mary agreeing to let Sheldon leave TX at age 11.
But for all we know, Chuck Lorre may pull a St. Elsewhere and have the last scene of the series finale of Young Sheldon depict Sheldon staring into a snowglobe.
btw- there recently was an article about a Tampa area child who is on the same rapid track the fictional Sheldon was on- college degree by 16 followed by grad school in genetics or such related STEM field. He stayed local and used online classes for part of his education. I found the article’s comment about how college did not care about age- compared to HS life- interesting as it seems logical (and fits other real life scenarios, such as an only two years ahead kid). The Sheldon character represents not only the highly gifted aspect but also the traits seen in physics majors. The show nicely showed some other STEM fields that pointed out how different fields can have different personalities despite all being STEM.
I’m assuming that one of the points of MeeMaws physics professor boyfriend is to establish that there is a college close enough to Young Sheldon’s home that he could commute. And thus the show could take him to age 14 if it’s successful enough.
I thought this was a great finale for a great show. Random thoughts:
Re Amy’s appeal to young girls, I wonder if the idea to put that in the script came from real-life scientist Mayim Bialik herself. It was one of the highlights, and it sounded genuine.
Speaking of, I love that TBBT featured so many accomplished women. Amy & Bernadette, of course, but also Leslie, Beverly, Priya, Dr. Stephanie, Mrs. Davis, Emily. Even a lot of the one-offs–Ramona, Dr. Plimpton, the FBI agent.
My one bone to pick is that Raj ended up alone. Why?
When I heard last year that this would be the last season, I wished that Penny would have a baby at the end, and Leonard would reprise his “both smart and beautiful” line. The writers worked it in a lot more gracefully than my idea. One of my favorite moments.
Funniest line: “Is that Buffy the Vampire Slayer?” delivered in quintessential Sheldon style.
Well, he just ended things with Anu (which was the right thing to do), so they could not really resolve that this week. But you should assume that there will be Raj/Buffy slash fiction appearing on a NSFW site very shortly.
@LasMa I wondered that (Amy’s speech to young girls) as well! I heard Mayim Bialik speak at a March for Science a couple of years ago and she said almost the same thing then.
I came to TBBT late and caught up from watching the (seemingly endless showing of) reruns. I thought the finale was sweet – I read that the writers wanted to give viewers the sense that the character’s lives continued on even though we would not be seeing it happen and they definitely accomplished that – with a number of nice moments along the way.
I also tuned in the end of Young Sheldon and thought it was both fun and a beautiful tribute to TBBT.
Raj was better off staying with his Big Bang family than marrying someone just to be married. He was not “alone.” He still had the whole gang. And I imagine he will find true love and start his own family some day.
True, I’m glad he broke it off with Anu. That just wouldn’t have been right. And Sheldon did refer to the group in his speech as “family” and Raj looked really happy in that last shot. But now I think @skieurope is right and he’ll end up with Buffy.
So many fun moments: Amy wearing a tiara to the Nobel, her makeover, Sheldon’s freak out about things changing, the legitimate affection between Penny and Leonard as they talked about her pregnancy. This was a show that celebrated a friendship - often frustrating, but still a real friendship - between a bunch of misfits. That last shot of them sitting around chez Penny and Leonard – different but the same – was lovely.
@sushiritto - H and I were worried they would get stuck in the elevator for the rest of the show and miss the Nobel ceremony! Phew, glad that didn’t happen!
Fixing the elevator was my favorite part of the show. Such a minor thing, but it was a surprise, something I had not anticipated. And then to see Sheldon’s reaction to it being fixed, and the luggage scene…it was a smart and funny twist.
