The Big Bang Theory

But Raj’s selective mutism, given that it’s established that his family is wealthy and could afford therapy, was realistic? Or how about how Jay Pritchett ends up married to a super hot Gloria on Modern Family? Or how Rachel and Monica afforded their apartment on Friends?

I think we can all suspend belief when watching entertainment.

“But Raj’s selective mutism, given that it’s established that his family is wealthy and could afford therapy, was realistic? “

It was pretty clear he did not have the kind of relationship with his parents that they would be aware of this especially if it began once he was no longer focusing on academics and thus not living with his parents.

“Or how about how Jay Pritchett ends up married to a super hot Gloria on Modern Family?”

You mean like lots of very wealthy men? Especially one willing to take on someone with a child.

“Or how Rachel and Monica afforded their apartment on Friends?”

It was well established that this was a rent controlled very low rent apartment from Monica’s dead or nursing home living grandmother on her fathers side.

@VeryHappy - I now a young person who had a dreadful lisp that occasionally impeded comprehension. She had needed vision therapy as a child and so hated the experience that she had absolutely rebelled at speech therapy. Knowing this young woman, I can understand perfectly why her parents decided it wasn’t a battle worth fighting. Interestingly, in her case, the lisp has nearly disappeared over the course of grad school. It is easy for me to imagine Kripke being a kid who would think that his speech was other people’s problem, not his, and who would be certain that there were much better uses for his time than spending it in speech therapy.

My d had brilliant twin friends who also couldn’t pronounce r’s either. Mom half heartedly tried speech therapy but they reinforced each other.

I also read the actors gave up some salary to increase the pay of Amy and Bernadette. If only they wouldn’t have made such a stand about the Smollett case or at least retracted it.

Well, my experience was different. S2 couldn’t pronounce his els. In kindergarten, they pulled him out for two, maybe three sessions. The exercises were fun for him – he had to practice such exotic phrases as, “Oh look, a little Lego!” and kind of enjoyed it.

Whatever. I just can’t figure out why the problem wasn’t nipped in the bud. I imagine he would have been mercilessly teased all throughout school and wouldn’t have liked that.

But I guess I’m taking it all too literally.

Wouldn’t his impediment be a fixable thing with the right therapy?>>>>>>>

Yes, if it doesn’t self-correct by age 7, then they do speech therapy. It took my son two years, once a week during the school year to “fix” it.

I FINALLY watched the finale. I didn’t watch last season regularly but decided a couple of months ago to catch up and watch through the finale. I have to say, I think most all of this last season was very, very good.

A couple of comments not necessarily mentioned much above that were great moments for me…

When Leonard got to slap Sheldon - the comedic timing of all of them was spot on.
When we finally hear why Leonard ALWAYS wears a hoodie - because Sheldon controlled the thermostat!

The elevator opening was PRICELESS. Clutch.

Also I have to say I thought Stuart really grew into his role and a HILARIOUS character the last couple of years. So glad they gave him a bigger role.

I would encourage anyone who hasn’t watched BB recently to at least dedicate yourself to watch the last half of this season all the way through. A really great finale episode!
