Can you give me an estimate of how much the same books will cost from Amazon.com? $200-400 maybe? And how much should I budget for my personal expenses, if I am the frugal sort who doesn’t club, drink or launder every other day?

Cool… so i will also follow the option of entire IVY league. it seems to me that he may get into Upenn,Dartmouth, or the one you chose…CORNELL!!

Choose one. Someone with even * perfect * stats goes into one or - at max - two. So it should be UPenn, Dartmouth OR Cornell, which btw, is my prediction ;)

I got lucky few times and was able to buy all my books under $200. Whatever the price of the book is in the university bookstore, you can buy it on Amazon at a half price.

@theGame: My brother during his first semester bought new books and everything, i can ask him if you want. But second hand books in excellent conditions can be found and he bought second hand for the 2nd semester and from then on unless there werent any available.

@determined8899: Yes i do know taha, ahsan and bosan, they are friends of my brother and are currently enrolled in UPENN

@hussain87: So all books are available at Amazon.com, right? The college cannot compel one to buy books from her (given if one is on a full-ride), can it?

@joiya550: I am all for 2nd hand books, but an estimation of first hand books from Amazon would be really helpful. Thanks.

@aak: We’re chancing the golden boy, determined8899

Your brother attends UT Austin isn’t that so? I think I was on a flight back with him from Dubai once. My brother also attends The Wharton school and is in their batch. Ahsan will be joining them next year.

@MindHunter
Ahh predictions, I dont think they are ever right I mean my brother when he applied to Wharton knew he stood no chance he was rejected from Dartmouth, Princeton, CORNELL but got into Duke, Penn, Brown and WL at Stanford, and he had normal scores a 2100 SAT and three sat2’s in the mid 700’s range.

But I applied to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, UPenn (Vagelos LSM), Dartmouth, Caltech (Reject), MIT (WL), Columbia…my friend’s wanted to go to cornell and brown and mashAllah both got in ED, so I never sent in my application!

Frontline, Urdu Bazaar, Hall Rd all these places have international additions for most of the courses you will be taking be it engineer, or economics.

My brother buys all his books required at Penn from Pakistan and then sells them there with a margin! Sweet deal! Do not waste your money on books in the US because at the end you lose 60-70 dollars a book, as far as Amazon goes they have good deals but a Rs.500 book is wa better then a $50 used book!

If anyone needs bookstore names let me know I usually send my brothers their books from Lahore!

Do give me those bookstore names. I won’t be buying them now coz I am not 100% certain I will be getting my visa. But for the 2nd yrs and thereafter, a very good option. Maybe even start a business lol :)

Which one from Brown and Cornell gave that much aid?!! Really hard to believe they were willing to dish out that much money (esp. in ED), but then again it’s LAS they must have exceptional stats. Clever friends you got.
