The Walking Dead

Does anyone here watch the show? I’m looking for people with whom I can re-hash last night’s episode!!

By the way - it’s a great show, once you get past the zombies-munching-on-dead-flesh part of it…

I’ve been watching since the first episode. Read the graphic novels. The Walking Dead and Dexter are the only shows I watch on tv.

I thought last nights episode was great… but I had read a spoiler online that he was going to die this season.

What did you think?

I thought it was great - and I had not seen any spoilers, so I was REALLY surprised. It made perfect sense in the context of the story (once I thought about it), but let’s put it this way: I thought the other guy was going to die.

I do have a question about the Zombie Virus, though. How come it worked so quickly on you-know-who? I mean, he was only dead for a few minutes. Does EVERYBODY harbor the virus and it only activates when you’re dead?

I was shocked by this episode’s events… though the conflict between Rick and Shane had to come to a head. It would have become tedious if not. I will miss the other Alpha though! (Are we naming names or trying not to be spoilers?)

So, the other big shocker is the “turning” after death from “non-walker” causes. I too am wondering if everyone harbors the virus.

Next week’s season ender will leave us all at the edge of the cliff I’m sure.

^^ I was just avoiding names, Minny, because once I blew it on another TV thread by blurting out the winner of “Project Runway”!

Next week’s episode looks pretty intense - I wonder who will be left to start the next season. At first I was hoping that Rick’s wife would get eaten (I’m not a huge fan of her character) but then I thought: what if she gives birth to a zombie baby? I’m still not sure how this walker virus works…

The virus is now airborne… which is typical in most zombie books and stories. Initially the virus can only be transmitted via a bite but then makes the jump (mutation, whatever) and reanimates the recently dead without a bite.

The writers seemed to reanimate him fairly quickly (quicker than most)… however, we could see that he was in the transformation stage (pupils were glazing over, visions of killing / eating flesh were all indicators that he was going to rise again).

Giving birth to a zombie baby… now that is not only shocking, but really gross! So, I could actually see that possibility on this series.

Remember at the end of Season 1 when the doctor at the CDC whispered something to Rick before he died? I wonder if the secret was that everyone carried the virus. That would explain what happened to Shane and Randall. I realize now that the pile of dead walkers at the bus yard who had no apparent bite marks was foreshadowing of last night’s episode.

I’m not a fan of Lori either. She best served the story line as the pivot point for Rick and Shane. Now that’s over with I guess her pregnancy will be what defines her next season. It’ll be interesting to see who positions himself as the rival Alpha to Rick. There always needs to be one in a story like this… probably a new person will join the group next season. It’s fun to speculate.

Creepiest part was the very end, when you could see all the walkers headed to the field! We LOVE this show and the talking dead afterwards is great too!

I did find an interview with Robert Kirkman (who authored the comic book and helps write the show) - and he said that it has always been the case that the dead become zombies, even if they weren’t bitten prior to death. In other words, you never had to be bitten to become a walker.A ccording to him, the reason the characters haven’t noticed that before is because they haven’t been in a stiuation to notice it.

“Giving birth to a zombie baby… now that is not only shocking, but really gross!” Minnymom… have you seen the remake of Dawn of the Dead? There’s a pregnant character (Luda) and zombie birth scene in that film.

In the Walking Dead graphic novel series, the virus becomes airborne (so people don’t harbor the virus) it simply mutates. Pretty typical for the genre.

I loved the first season of the show, but once they fired show runner Frank Darabont and slashed the budget, I thought the show went down hill fast–the many episodes at the farm have been draggy and repetitious. I welcomed the deaths of annoying Dale and crazy Shane just to get things moving again. As for the zombie virus, I hope they eventually explain why all those dead folks in the cars on the interstate didn’t zombify–and also how they ended up dead in their cars in the first place.

I think the great special effects are pretty much the only reason to watch!

^^ According to Robert Kirkman, those dead-but-not-zombified people who remained dead in their cars supposedly died of head injuries suffered during car accidents, and we all know that head injuries will kill a walker.

Yeah, it doesn’t quite fly with me either, which is why I prefer the mutant virus theory. I’m just repeating what I read!

I don’t watch The Walking Dead (it is on my list though) and knew a thread would pop up because every entertainment site is talking about what happened last night.

Really? This thread has already dropped to page 3 - and yet the “Downton Abbey” thread is rolling along like gang busters? Sheesh. What have those high-falutin’ Brits got that zombies don’t?

I LOVE this show, and am so happy I discovered it. It’s so much more than just zombies; I love the various character dynamics. It’s the thinking-man’s zombie show.

I was shocked by Shane’s demise; really didn’t see that one coming. And I was really saddened to see Dale go; I really liked him tho many thought he was annoying.

I thought the scene two shows ago when they all gathered in the living room to discuss what to do with Randall was fascinating on so many levels. Dale’s impassioned plea was heartbreaking.

Another scene that took my breath away was when Sophia came lurching out of the barn. I audibly gasped.

Well, I could go on and on. Sunday nights have never been this great :)

Don’t watch zombie tv- but that reminded me of this & had to share.

I watch with my 14 year old son. He’s been a little disappointed this season. In his words, “too much talking, not enough zombies.” I think that’s about to change.

So, what did everyone think of last night’s episode?

Thought it was awesome and finally… they introduced Mishonne (at the end of the episode)! Can’t wait for Season 3!

As someone who never read the comics, I did love the appearance of the-caped-woman-with-two-walkers-on-leashes. I also liked the foreshadowing of next season, where I’m guessing they enter the prison/whatever-that-was that was shown at the end of the episode.

I was kind of hoping that Lori wouldn’t make it, but oh well. At least Daryl and Glenn are still around - and it looks like Rick grew a spine, finally.
