This Is Us. Anyone watching?

In that flash ahead - from what I remember about it - Beth was at a dance studio or a performance hall or something that looked pretty fancy/flashy - maybe she becomes really successful at this career.

Randall lives with four females—well, I guess Deja didn’t join the family until after William’s death so three back then—and I didn’t hear him complaining.

I didn’t get the idea that Beth’s urban planner job paid anywhere near what Randall’s NYC job had paid, but it has to pay considerably more than a part time dance teacher.

I’m with Randall. Public service, even if Beth didn’t fully buy into it, beats her resurgent interest in ballet. She doesn’t want to be a politician’s wife, but that isn’t what I see as her primary role. For a couple more years, what she needs to be is a full time mother (teach a couple of day time classes if you want, but get your daughters to their activities, have dinner with them, be the present parent) and then she can pursue her artistic bent.

Randall didn’t complain about living with his women because they are his nuclear family. I don’t think it has anything to do with gender, but rather Other people living in the house period. I think Beth agrees that having her FIL and BIL stay with them is a compassionate idea and she agreed, andvfrom whst we’ve been shown has handled it well. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to tear her hair out sometimes. I don’t like guests, even extended family, visiting more than 3 days, can’t imagine them living with me. I’m not alone in this thinking, even Benjamin Franklin agrees.

^^ Well sure! But did she ever express to Randall that it was overwhelming? Did she say, “man, I need a weekend to myself!”?? Didn’t sound like it - until they met in the convenience store. Again, Beth - like Randall often is doing - trying to be the do-gooder, make the right moves. They BOTH have this issue.

No doubt some of our personal judgement is also based on our our personal real live lives.

I guess I lost sympathy for Randall after he left that horrible phone message for Beth. Whoa. If my DH did that, he would be sleeping in the doghouse.

^^^ But you didn’t lose sympathy for Beth when she dogged Randall for his anxiety attacks?!

In our 38 years of marriage I’ve certainly said some things I wish I hadn’t said. But at the moment it was what I was feeling. If we couldn’t move past “words” we’d never be working on year 39!

Did someone post this already? I just came across it.

Why Tim O’Brien Agreed to Write for ‘This Is Us’
The acclaimed author of “The Things They Carried” talked to The Times about writing for Season 3 and how an all-volunteer military force changed the public’s perception of war.

Tonight is the finale?! I didn’t realize that. Saw “Beth” post a 2 minute clip on Twitter - highlights from the finale tonight. :frowning:

@abasket I saw that too - the “I can’t see the door”? Doesn’t look good!

I don’t like the story line because I love them as a couple, and it just seems like it came from left field. But I think a lot of women can relate to how Beth feels. Not that it’s all on Randall, but life happens. I just hope they work it out because I do love them!

^^^ @NJWrestlingmom yeah, even in that little clip Randall is coming in (it seems) and offering up all he can including his time, taking the girls to activities, being informed on Deja’s new activity, etc. - but Beth seems out of the loop and unwilling to bend. She seems a little unaware of events with the girls. Mid life crisis for Beth?

Just lovely tonight.

Sad for one of the min characters

That was tough to watch the end.

Loved tonight!

I’m confused - was the young boy running through the kitchen who said hi to Uncle Randall Toby and Kate’s son as I thought his name was Jack? If yes why was he there and not with Toby and Kate and where was Kate?

I think the young boy (9ish) referred to his dad being Kevin?

Yes I caught that but did anyone else think his name was Jack? It was thinking his name was Jack that made me confused about whether he was Kate and Toby’s son.

I didn’t think his name was Jack. He was Kevin’s son. I thought Toby said he had just talked with Jack and they were on their way. I’m assuming “they” would be Jack and Kate. I just watched it live though, so can’t go back and check.

I heard the same thing psychmomma did. Little boy is Kevin’s son Jack and “someone” are on their way. At the end did they say Hi Nicky?

This was a really good season ender.

Yes, ‘Dad’ went to get take-out, someone said ‘typical Kevin’.

Did anyone else catch Randall say ‘Hi, Nick’ to the man sitting at Rebecca’s bedside?

@mominva so glad I wasn’t going crazy!
