^ Yes, I heard “Hi Nick” or Nicky and it looked like him to me, sitting next to her bed.
Definitely think it was Nicky. Do you think Kate and Toby are divorced?
I think they want us to think that, so probably not.
Would someone kindly post a link to a web replay of the episode? I am out of town and missed it. thanks!
Great episode. Loved Deja. And I loved how Kate was able to articulate her complicated feelings to her mom toward the end. And, in that last scene, there was a reference to them being in Kevin’s house and dh and I interpreted that the kid running through the room was Kevin’s. We also assumed we’d see Miguel in the room with Rebecca but it was Nikky. Dh and I noticed the absence of Kate and wondered if she died (hope we’re wrong on that one). And where was Miguel?
I’m kind of worried there was no future Kate in the scene, too. And I don’t think Toby was wearing a wedding ring. But I hadn’t even noticed Miguel was missing. Interesting that it was Nicky by Rebecca’s bedside and that discussion about her having dementia earlier may be true.
How many years is this in the future? 15-20?
I think Chrissy Metz was probably off filming her movie - so Kate and Jack ‘were on their way’.
I definitely want to go back and rewatch the final scene. I knew that wasn’t Miguel at Rebecca’s bedside, but DH walked into the room during that scene & I think I missed some of the dialogue. I also thought the boy was called Jack, but he was Kevin’s son. But Toby mentioned Jack too. Could both Kate & Kevin have named their sons Jack, even with both boys living?
Anyone else notice Kevin’s lifelong affinity for nurses? Does this mean we’ll see more of Sophie in the future
I thought there was going to be a “Gift of the Magi” moment for Randall and Beth in the present, with each giving up something for the other. Didn’t exactly turn out that way.
It was Kevin’s house and Kevin’s son. I am also wondering about the time line. Has to be more than 10 years, since Tess is out of school and working but looking at Rebecca hoping it is more than that (even though Kevin would be quite old to have a kid at that points, suggesting he may not be Sophie’s). Seemed like something was up with Toby and Kate, since Randall was thanking him for coming not just asking where Kate was. I will find it difficult to watch Rebecca in that state, especially if it is not that long in the future.
I loved Beth’s recognition that perhaps her teaching at this studio was not really worth the sacrifice, since she wasn’t reaching kids with a lot of potential. Not that surprising that they will be moving to Philly.
I watched last week’s episode late and really understood where Beth was coming from: Randall made a lot of choices without consulting her and she went along. From moving William into the house, to quitting his very good job and not getting another one, to buying the building and then to running for office 100 miles from home. He assumed she would support him and make it work. I loved the scene of their first date.
Whatever happened to the buidling he bought? Does he still own it?
One of the best things about the show is the quality of the acting - through all the ages. The kids and teens are so very good, along with the adults.
Oops. I tried posting an Instagram link, and I guess that’s against the rules? Just wanted to share that little Randall portrays singer Kane Brown in his new music video. Search for kanebrown_music on IG and you’ll see a pic of them. They are so cute.
I’m so glad that Randall and Beth came to a resolution that allowed both of them to fulfill their dreams and are still together - to me, they are the heart of the show (and I think it was really hard going through all the tension with them this season). Loved Kevin flirting the with the nurse (@shellfell - good catch with his affinity for them/Sophie)!
It was definitely Nicky at Rebecca’s bedside but where was Miguel?!
Good ending to the season.
@mom2and I said during the episode “why did they just drop the Randall Beth buy the building storyline?” And it was definitely Nicky at Rebecca’s bedside. Not sure of the time jump but it seems Kevin had a child years later. I might be alone but thought Jack and kids one night away from mom was overly dramatic.
Does anyone think that Beth and Randall’s issues were too neatly tied up after numerous episodes of angst and anger? Kind of like she had this aha moment where she didn’t want to teach dance to the mommies who would never lose the baby weight, so she’ll go open her own dance studio near Randall’s job. Not a bad solution, but the 180 was kind of sudden for me. Not that I really wanted to see their marital strife drag on any longer, though.
I agree, @Barbalot. They seemed to find closure to their marital issues quickly. Although moving to Phila. will likely lead to new issues for their marriage and children.
@3sonsmom - It seemed overly dramatic to me as well. However, I think they did that to give Rebecca more props. So much of the series has focused on Jack as the savior/glue/rock/hero of the family. I think it showed that she was just as vital to the family unit.
I really enjoyed the episode, but I agree the flashback to Rebecca in the hospital was a over the top.
Also, I was kinda disappointed that Kate wasn’t firmer with her mom who, IMO, was completely overstepping her boundaries at the NICU. The whole “I can never be a perfect mom like you” thing is just too much for me. Shoot, I was crazier and more volatile with my perfectly healthy 1st born than is Kate with her tiny preemie!
And I look forward to seeing more of Nicky.
Great ending! I enjoyed the show, but loved the ending. Kevin’s a Dad, yah! Randall and Beth made it! Everything is a nice setup for next season. Hope Zooey is out of the picture for good. Jack feeding corn hamburgers was just too unbelievable for me, I can’t believe that piece of writing was approved. Too many other creative ways to show they really need her. I would have rather seen him do the old stand by like burning the dinner or something,
Agree Beth and Randall reunited too quickly. Gosh they’re so co-dependent, aren’t they? They can’t survive without each other. A little too histronic when Beth can’t find a door, then suddenly, it’s all over.
Was that Mandy Moore at the end in full makeup? Didn’t look like her in the bed.
The best part of the show was Deja telling her story of the scratch tickets and convincing Randall he had to make good on his lottery winnings…loved that
Made me think how I won the lottery with my adopted children and if I were making good on my winnings too. Lots to think about. Loved Bug forgiving Rebecca and admitting her own insecurity. Loved to see Bug and Rebecca hugging.
I just love Kevin period. He’s the golden haired boy who has so many real flaws (alcoholism), can’t find a relationship that works and is so good looking.
I agree that Deja’s speech was the best part of the episode. In fact, I think it was in the top three scenes of the season. I’m willing to put up with Jack’s long-winded speech to the nurse and the corn burgers for moments like that.
So many comments to make!!!
First of all my darn DVR cut off the end - I saw Randall walking down the hallway but did not see Rebecca - or Nicky. I did confirm through an article that it IS Nicky.
Bye bye Zoe! I wasn’t a big fan. I actually had accidently read that " a regular" was leaving the show and so I was a little freaked out to see who it was - whew, just Zoe!
Deja and Randall are SO good together. That speech - he should feel so proud.
Also, I would like to point out that Kevin’s talk with Tess - not the first time this season he has come up with just the right words with those kids. That was touching to me.
If Randall and Beth didn’t move to Philly what would happen? He quits, no job. He stays, marriage rife. She quits dance, she is unfulfilled. She keeps teaching it doesn’t pay the bills. Moving to Philly is the best option - at least for the next couple of years.
I notice we haven’t seen Annie in the future scenes.
