Tufts vs UVA

My daughter wants to study Neuroscience and Art History…any opinion on which school is best?

I can’t speak to those specific academic programs at each school but Tufts and UVA are VERY different in terms of the vibe of the school…the size, college town versus urban setting, student body, etc…Has you son or daughter been to visit both schools? What did they think and where did they feel more comfortable?

nope…visting both next week

One thing you should know is that Tufts does not have a specific neuroscience major, although it does have very strong Bio, Chem, Psych, Biopsych, and Cognitive Brain Science programs. I’m a current student at Tufts actually trying to transfer into UVA. There are a lot of things I really like about Tufts, like the academics, the location, and the unique opportunities they offer (I imagine it would be a great school for Art History given they have a new partnership with the SMFA). But it is VERY liberal and small, so that’s something to take into account. Also, compared to my friends at UVA, I’ve found that my classes have been more challenging (many of my classes will transfer as 4 credits when the equivalent is only 3 credits at UVA), and I have been much more stressed. They’re both fantastic schools, but very different in terms of atmosphere. Hopefully touring both will give you some insight.

Thanks everyone…she selected UVA…the size of the schools really mattered to her…
