Tuition Exchange for Fall 2024 (Class of 2028)

I heard end of February for notifications, 500 applicants at Pitt and ~10% acceptance this year so quite competitive. Our Twin B was waitlisted for acceptance OOS. Excited to go to campus for admitted students day 3/2 for both kids.

Loyola Chicago decisions are out.

We’re waiting on Hofstra but it doesn’t look good. They said they have over 100 applications and 4 spots. They emailed 3/1 decisions would be made

Pitt is announcing/awarding scholarships by Monday the 4th; I assume this will include TE.

Assuming the waitlist is long, but does anyone have details?

A colleague’s D got offered it. They are asking them to make a decision soon. This suggests (to me) that the waitlist is pretty decent/lengthy. You could always ask where you are on the waitlist. Many schools will let you know, based on historical information, how far into the waitlist they are likely to go. A friend did this with Villanova. They were 48 (another was 72) on the waitlist and were told they were unlikely to go that deep. So they moved on.

Loyola sent an email last week stating that they had 375 TE applications for 20 spots.

I thought they did honors first then use that to interview for Chancellor’s. Not sure honors have gone out? Hopefully TE will be sooner.

We heard the “by March 4th” from AO. I suspect some people are “eligible” for multiple scholarships (e.g. Stamps, Nordenberg, TE). That is, they are shortlisted for more than one, and they are probably trying to decide which to offer so that they can offer the other scholarship to another student. I would hope honors would come out this week, and assuming Chancelors is an online interview, that could happen next week. But I am speculating. Chancellors may have a different date. All I know is the March 4 date the AO told us.

My daughter got an email today from admissions with the March 4th date RE Stamps and Nordenberg. However, the email was a bit disingenuous because she knows another student who was up for the same scholarships and they already had a second finalist interview for Stamps. They were instructed not to tell the other semifinalists. So clearly Pitt already chose the recipients of the Stamps (and possibly the Nordenberg from their pool of 36 semifinalists and just haven’t notified the students that didn’t get it. My point is that could also be true with the TE awards.

Oh, that is interesting!! I assume they are waiting to see who accepts and then go to the “waitlist”. Is this the second finalist interview with the Stamps foundational simply a formality for acceptance? I would be interested to know when she interviewed and when she gets notified of the outcome.I have a colleague whose son also applied for TE at Pitt and has not heard yet.

Congratulations to your daughter! Thats really impressive!

Pitt interviewed 36 semifinalists for what I think are 10 spots (5 for each). Before that they had interviewed on Zoom. They then interviewed approximately 5-7 finalists again and then sent their names to Stamps for approval. Agreed they could be hedging their bets. The problem is these admissions folks don’t realize how connected this generation is. My daughter also was a finalist for another big one like this at another school. She had to interview. She was notified that she was an alternate and would be informed immediately if someone didn’t accept. The letter implied she was the first alternate. She reached out to another finalist on LinkedIn and he was told the same thing. They are starting to realize that the admissions folks are always telling them the full truth. Luckily she has two great offers in hand already so we aren’t sweating this too much. But the Stamps is an amazing opportunity.

Yes, we were one of the 36. Once they make an offer to a student, I am curious how long they give them to accept or decline. I know that at UT Austin if you are invited to campus to interview, it is under the assumption that you will accept. In other words, don’t come to an interview if you will not take it. Last year, there were a number of kids who received multiple Stamps offers (from different schools). There were existing Stamps scholars at Pitt when the 36 interviewed who said they were originally on the waitlist, and then when others declined, they were offered it. I suspect Pitt has given those they have shortlisted until sometime next week to decide so they can then accept or decline the others by the 4th.

yes. we know someone who got the Robertson off the waitlist a couple of years ago. it definitely happens. some kids also choose to pay for an Ivy rather than take one of these amazing offers. that won’t be my child! lol
