Tuition Exchange for Fall 2024 (Class of 2028)

Great to hear how successful TE has been with your older kids! You can check on our spreadsheet to see if there were any awards for those schools.

S24 just received notification of receiving TE from GWU! The rate is $54K per year, which is a large increase (of course tuition’s going up too!)

Has anyone heard anything from Dayton? They said “soon” when I touched bast a few weeks ago.

Congrats! That’s a nice amount of scholarship for TE. George Wash is the last school we were waiting on. Can I ask how you heard from them - portal update or email?

My daughter got an email this morning with the TE award for GWU. It is a good amount even though they don’t stack!

Thanks for letting me know. Haven’t heard anything yet
so fingers crossed.

they seem to have gone out in waves.

We are waiting, too. S21 is attending Dayton now on TE, and he found out much earlier than April (i.e. late January/early February). I know TE decisions there have been delayed because of the FAFSA. S21 received an email letting him know he had been awarded TE; it was not updated right away in his UD student portal. Have your child keep checking their email! Fingers crossed for us both!

Just got the update that S24 has been waitlisted at GWU. :unamused:
Our TE results are as follows:
SetonHall - accepted and TE awarded for full tuition, leaving COA under $20K
Cuse - accepted and TE waitlisted with $20k in merit, leaving COA ~ $60K (unaffordable)
GW - accepted and TE waitlisted with $26K in merit, leaving COA ~ $60K (unaffordable)

Our student applied to 10 school and got into all of them with varying amounts of merit. SH is by far the most affordable, but he has a couple others that are coming in between $20-30K, which are all doable for our family. Now comes the hard part
figuring out which one will be best for him.

SetonHall is one of our better choices too (for price). My thought is my D will probably pick Seattle University after visiting this weekend (also full TE, yay)
unless she gets off the waitlist for DePaul. SetonHall is number 3 currently.

I just want the choice to be made so we can start figuring out dorm stuff

They told me a couple weeks ago they were waiting on FASBA to make final decisions and were hoping for notifications in mid-April. I assume this means they will lean towards students in need (rather than full-pay students)?? That may help you in your decision. I have trouble believing FASBA info will all be ready anytime soon - I still cannot make changes to my form which was processed with errors.

Thank you! I was not sure what “soon” meant either! They did get our FAFSA there but not the other few we listed. SO frustrating for all! Does Dayton at least do a waitlist for TE?

According to their website, they do not: Tuition Exchange : University of Dayton, Ohio

Fingers crossed on the waitlist for GWU. My daughter has decided not to accept their TE. So it should go back in the pool.

I don’t undertan why these school do this! Why give 10-12 and know only a few of those will be aceepted. Its the same few kids that get it at multiple schools. Just scroll through these posts! People don’t realize how hard this is to read! MULTIPLE SCHOOLS same kid. I get that they are probaly better gpa’s etc. But why not move down a list and get them ALL used as opposed to all being offered to the same few students who can only accept one.

Obvioulsy not having ANY damn luckhere and heartbroken that I took a lower paying job thinking this benefit" balanced it out. Feel like I got scammed. and that I am truly failing my kid

I am really sorry for what you are going through. I hope you get some good news soon. It is hard when your kid gets accepted into a great school but then you don’t even receive the tuition exchange.

Unfortunately, for most of us here we have had to cast a wide net as we have no way of knowing whether we would get one or any award. I don’t event think it is necessarily stats, I have no idea how they choose.

Personally right now we do have two schools with full TE (and one on the waitlist) and we are very thankful but it could have easily gone the other way. My D is still weighing heavily on those schools and will decline extra awards once she figures it out. I think many of us on here have been good about declining awards once we figure out it isn’t a fit.

Echoing these sentiments. As a parent of one high stats kid and one who is not, we are feeling some angst, too, if that helps any. We are now feeling even more grateful that D19 was able to use TE at School of the Art Institute in Chicago, and at the time we felt so fortunate not to pay the (seemingly-shockingly-high-now-doesn’t-sound-so-bad) $45K/yr in tuition (set rate stacked with honors). Our high stats twin A24 didn’t get TE at their top choice, and the ones where they did get TE have COAs that are still higher than $45k in all but one case.

We still are on waitlists for TE at most of Twin B’s schools. It’s so hard to know what will happen. I agree that schools should use waitlists and maximize these opportunities.

I hope your child will appreciate your sacrifices to help them (what a wonderful demonstration of love) and I sincerely hope all turns out for the best for your student.

This is a tough, nerve-wracking process. We knew going in with S21 to cast a wide net because TE is a tough get and it is hard to count on any one school coming through. Our oldest was really good about rolling with it, and our twins have been pretty good, too. They know, based on our experiences with S21, that TE is competitive. What makes our situation hard is that we are waiting on Twin B’s top choice, and where Twin B goes will influence where Twin A goes. After we learn this, the twins should be able to make their decisions pretty quickly.

As for the waitlist, I don’t understand schools not having one because, as you note, not every kid offered TE will accept it. Someone in the thread said that Pitt does not waitlist for TE either. I did hope that maybe this year, with the agonizing delays caused by the FAFSA, schools that don’t usually have one might offer a waitlist.

The fact you took this job to provide this kind of benefit for your child shows what a great parent you are. I really hope it works out. This is a tough stretch right now, with so many decisions hanging in the balance, and it can be hard to have faith in the process. I did feel, with S21, that things had a way of working out, and I have to keep that positive thought in mind now, too.
