Tuition Exchange for Fall 2024 (Class of 2028)

varies by school. My D20, with good grades and decent rigor, but really unspectacular test scores, was awarded it at every school to which she applied.

I am in CIC (not TE, I know many are in both, but not me!) - has anyone had experience with that program? I did all the stuff in August/ September to be in the system and verified through work, etc, and figured I would wait for her acceptances before drilling down too deep on the specific school’s processes.

I did. She did cast a wide net and has received acceptance and merit money to the TE schools that were safeties, but has not received any word about TE. The 2 safety schools that she has been accepted to are listed as 11-40% on the exchange site. It’s just difficult to get hopes up, and the waiting is REALLY hard for us all!

I think then she has a good chance with the 11-40 for sure. I wish they would let us know on TE with admission. It would be so much easier. :grinning:

I don’t know anything about CIC. You might check last years thread to see if those folks had info on it.

FYI, my kid got a lot of early admissions acceptances last year. But didn’t even get his first TE denial until February. His first TE award notice came in March. He ended up getting TE at ~half the schools where he applied for it. But at the places where he was denied TE, he still got good aid. I know some other people got early TE award notices last year, but folks should default to preparing for a long wait.

Good to know. It is hard to get excited about a school knowing that we have to wait for TE.

Indeed. Mine had all apps in quite early. Some TE denials came in Feb. All TE awards came in March and April. But he had affordable acceptances he was excited about by November. So the long wait was just to get the full list of offers for comparison.

So happy to see this thread - I need all the help I can get with this process!

Daughter has an EA acceptance with merit aid at Mercyhurst, and the TE officer there said if she gets the TE, that will replace the merit. TE is full tuition there so it’s more than her current merit award. I’d heard that only some TE schools allow stacking TE and merit, so not really surprised but -arrggh.

All the applications are in for her TE schools, and almost of her college apps (WHY does anyone need eight essays?!?) .

S24 got accepted to Seton Hall’s School of Diplomacy and International Relations. While we are waiting for TE, he did receive a merit award with his acceptance.

Congrats on the acceptance!!

We also received merit from Seton Hall. I think it is just half tuition for the year though. So TE would definitely be a bigger award.

Jumping into the 2024 thread for D24, after going through the process with S22 two years ago.

We’re in Indiana and D24 submitted for TE at 10 in state schools and has been accepted to 9. She didn’t realize the 10th school required a course that she couldn’t fit in this year for being considered. So 9 it is!

In the last week, she has been offered TE at 2 of those institutions. Both Marian and Valpo have given it to her. We haven’t visited either one, but will try to do so soon.

She contacted the school she really wanted, but their TE timeline is shifted due to the late FAFSA release this year. They hope to review by the end of January and send notification to prospective students about TE the first week of February.

That’s a good point. I could see this year’s FAFSA changes throwing a wrench in the TE notification timelines (which can be aggravatingly slow in a normal year).

That is exciting that she has two TE offers in hand. Congrats!

So by contact, did she contact the TE person at the school or admissions or?

It is great you have been through this before. This is our first one doing exchange so luckily I found CC or I would have been clueless.

She recieved a notification from TE for both schools that she was being offered TE. But she quickly recieved an email directly from Valpo that she was being awarded full tuition TE.

I forgot to mention that another of the schools sent a letter acknowledging her application for TE and listed out the timeline for their process.

S22 went through the whole process 2 years ago, but ended up at a non TE school in the end. He ended up in West Lafayette.

My son got his first TE award today (Valpo). I was surprised to see it come in so quickly. I wasn’t expecting any notifications until 2024.

Congratulations! Our Twin B was also awarded TE from Valpo today.

Based on this from the TE page for Seton Hall, I believe the first 3 years would be covered, but none of the grad years - “The TE scholarship award may only be applied to tuition costs up to 18 credits per semester and excludes graduate courses (including those taken as part of a joint degree program)
”

How do pell grants work with tuition exchange? Do they lower TE or allow it for room and board?
