The financial aid offer from Suffolk is $41400 in scholarships, and TE is only $43K (she has not received it yet). Tuition is up to $49K, cost of living is $23K. Even if she gets TE it’s at like $29K for the year
Denied TE at Butler, received email! Portal not updated.
So we cancelled the visit we had scheduled for Feb 7! While I loved the campus it definitely wasn’t her top pick (DePaul and Suffolk, IN the cities, are her preferred) So we are not upset and hope someone is jumping with joy to get the Butler TE offer right now!
Denied TE at Butler as well.
Disappointing, although I don’t think they give many out.
Joining the chorus: we didn’t get TE at Butler, either.
I’ve heard from two different TE liaisons officers that one should not apply for TE at more than 4-5 schools as it will look like ‘fishing’. Do you know if this is true? It seems counterintuitive to me to apply for fewer schools when the chances of receiving TE is <10% (and you know that your family needs in order to attend). But perhaps applying to less places increases you chance of receiving TE?
That’s interesting. I didn’t realize the colleges could tell if the student is applying to other places. It also seems like that approach could conflict with policies of the exporting institution. At my work, we have a tuition grant program, but my student isn’t eligible unless they can show they applied for TE and didn’t get it. A lot of the TE colleges are places they would have applied anyway. My D25 ended up with maybe 8 on her list, which are the majority of the places she applied. It seems kind of unrealistically to expect so few if the limit is 10.
Also denied at Butler. I am bummed as I was impressed when we visited (probably more impressed than my son was).
I didn’t do the tour myself, but I heard good things about Butler from my husband and D25 after their visit. Others also commented on this thread how well done Butler’s tours are. I wonder how many TE spots they award?
It wasn’t on my daughter’s list at all before the tour. If it were closer to real city life (walkable) it would be ideal. Gorgeous campus.
I’d be upset to know that the schools are denying TE bc she applied to too many (she applied to 8 and they were all a specific type of school).
I’m pretty sure schools can see other colleges you applied to for TE. It’s a bummer. I feel that we should apply to many - we applied to 8 as well - to give it a decent chance.
D25 did have the TELO at Elmhurst reach out personally by email asking if/when she will make her decision and if their school would stay on the list. I understand they want to know if she will take the spot or not to possibly consider other applicants. I respect it.
The limit is 20
I’m guessing 3.
The email said “……we must select only a few students…….”
My mistake. I thought it was less than the common app.
Can anyone confirm if this is true? My kid applied to 10 but I’m wondering if she should withdrawal some just in case, but she’s a transfer and chances are slimmer.
I expect Duquesne TE email by the end of the week or so based on previous years release dates. Also a < 10% rate. I would say Duquesne is currently 3rd/4th on my daughter’s list.
My notes (not sure where I have gathered this specifically as I wasn’t looking to have to publish lol) say that Butler is ~20 TE scholarships per year. Marquette I have ~13 and that was from some published data I remember reading. Duquesne I have noted ~10.
My kid received an email waitlisting her for TE for Xavier so I’m guessing all those decisions are out.
Fingers crossed that turns into an acceptance
I’m sorry I didn’t post this to scare people. We went through the application process two years ago and at the time it didn’t seem to matter. We applied to 8 TE spots and my student received several awards including his top choice. So I would not withdraw applications if I were you. I was just wondering if others heard about it and if they consider it in their application strategy.
