My S24 was TE waitlisted at Lafayette - he sent the liaison an email telling them Laf was his #1 choice and that he’s deposit the same day if it came through. And it did in less than a week – and he graduated this past May! If X is a top choice, have your kiddo TELL THEM! Good luck!
That’s wonderful! And good to know that strategy worked. Lafayette seemed like a great place too.
We were also told by 2 TE liaisons that they look at how many schools you apply to, in order to help determine your “seriousness” (in other words, if you’re fishing). I agree with the other posts here that it is completely counterintuitive and even unfair, as you need to cast a wide net given the scarcity of the resource being awarded. If it helps, on a different forum, someone who works in the office doing TE certifications for export and reviewing import applications said this is NOT true and that they can’t see the import schools. Another person said “import schools can no longer see where else the candidates have applied” - implying it has recently changed.
Elisette is it accurate that an offer at DePaul was already made for this year?
Thank you!
No, that is our home school so it came in early as approved for us.
Tuition Exchange RECEIVED at Saint Joseph in Philly with the financial aid offer!!!

OH CRAP - " We have received a record number of Tuition Exchange applications this year and therefore request that you notify us of your intent to accept the Tuition Exchange Scholarship within the next ten (10) business days ."
We haven’t even been there.
Oh got it! They should not even call those slots TE if it’s the home school. I’m sure it varies everywhere, but at my home school you automatically get the tuition waiver (if you can get in, which is a major IF at USC!!)
Yeah, our working spreadsheet for this board doesn’t have that distinction.
Congrats on the offer.
We were told by another institution that a school can’t require you to accept before May 1st. This is the language on the TE page, "Q: If offered a TE Scholarship, is there a specific date by which the student must accept it?
A: While schools may request an acceptance/decline of the scholarship by a certain date, they cannot mandate the student deposit prior to May 1. Be kind! Alert the Import school TELO and your admissions counselor if you do not plan to accept any TE Scholarship offered so they can potentially offer it to another student." This process is so stressful!
Pepperdine had 250 applicants
Will give out 10 TE awards
Will be sent on 4/1
Creighton starting to release TE awards
This is so wrong on many levels! I was just reading an article about this (it won’t let me post it here). It’s about this exact issue with schools pressuring for decisions yet it goes against the TE policies and best practices.
My dependent listed three schools on her application; she received a set rate offer from John Carroll which is not her first choice and crickets from the other two. I can’t get any information from the Tuition Exchange portal or our school liaison. The school website says they notify you by February 1. I guess it’s safe to assume she didn’t get anything. Basically take this and that’s it? We also have the benefit of CIC as well with no word from them either. I can’t believe she gets one choice and that’s it??? Any input?
I haven’t heard from Duquesne yet either.
My dependent applied for three schools and only heard from one…maybe she should have listed more as I can’t believe between Tuition Exchange and CIC she gets one choice for college?
Based on timing of when ppl heard last year I expect today or the next couple weeks
For DePaul? That would be great. I emailed them and they said mid-March. Also said that they base it completely on academic performance and the rigor of the high school. Not on test scores (bad for me!) or financial need. I put this on the spreadsheet.
No, that was for Duquesne
My son got one TE (of three) and is doing great there (Pitt).
D25 has gotten accepted at 2 TE schools so far. We have financial aid info for both of them. One specifically mentioned TE in the financial aid info, but not in the acceptance letter, which did mention a different scholarship. The second has 0 mention of TE. Back in the TE portal each school says “import decision pending.” I’m so confused.
