Creighton emailed saying they will let students know in February.
DePaul released their EA decision and she has the tuition benefit there (our home school). It is the top or top 2-3 schools for her, so good to have!
Our home school is not really on the list (but she applied). A friend toured with their senior recently and let me know that my face from a print ad is still part of their presentation. My daughter would have just rolled her eyes.
My home institution isn’t on my kids list either. She applied but would be very last choice.
I made mine go to open house at our home school, to set a baseline, but had my husband take her. I’ve worked there since she was a baby, and didn’t need to have “OMG she’s old enough to GO HERE!?” Be the overarching theme of the day. She did not apply, but we are rolling admission, and she knows it’s her plan B if her current school doesn’t work out. (She’s a class of ‘24/‘28, but I lurk here anyway, as my next is ‘28/‘32)
I am only on the main campus 2-3 times a year so my daughter would never see me anyways.
My DS23 did not have DePaul as a primary choice - he is physics/math and ended up at Pitt on TE. DD25 is wanting business related major so DePaul makes a lot of sense. I think she would have DePaul on her list even without TE so that’s actually nice.
That’s terrific! I think going to your home institution is so much easier when you are a relatively anonymous employee. I am one of the few staff that actually interacts with just about everyone and have a unique last name that if you didn’t know me by sight, you’d know me by name - there are pros and cons to that connection, for sure, but coupled with having the first year res hall look directly down to my office (and not having the combo of programs my D24 wanted) attending the home institution was not the first choice for her. While we didn’t get CIC (and we aren’t part of TE), the financial aid she did receive made it doable to go to a different school.
Yeah, she’ll never see her father, and students don’t interact with him.
So I’m divorced, not remarried and their dad works at the school they will receive TE from. My daughter’s FAFSA showed her as eligible for minimum Pell ($740), which surprised me greatly. I think it’s a combo of single parent, a lower bonus in ‘23, family size… who knows.
I don’t think my sons (sophomore in college) will show Pell for him because he’s saved a significant amount more, I didn’t even fill out the FAFSA for him last year because it was such a mess and we didn’t need the loans.
Will she get the Pell grant with TE? I don’t know what the rules are around Pell at all.
It depends on whether a given school is doing TE as a “last dollar” award applied to the remaining balance of tuition after any other need based grants or scholarships are applied based on the completion of the FAFSA. Some schools do, some don’t. You can see for each individual school on the TE list whether that is the case. Under the Award Packages section for each school, you will see
“Receipt of Pell Grant may reduce my Tuition Exchange scholarship” (Yes/No)
“Receipt of state grants/scholarships may reduce my Tuition Exchange scholarship” (Yes/No)
“Receipt of institutional grants/scholarships may reduce my Tuition Exchange scholarship” (Yes/No)
The answer is “yes” for most schools for the last one (institutional aid), but varies for the Pell and state money.
No TE decisions here yet. Her fave school right now is not a Tuition Exchange school. Current COA of non TE with her auto merit is around 23k/yr. Could go down to around 18k if she gets the extra essay scholarship money.
Has you child already gotten acceptances? My D25 applied to a few TEs early action, but the first of the decisions won’t be until mid-january. One of them isn’t until March, which I found really surprising. But their EA deadline is kind of late. A few others she applied RD. At one point I read that one college gave most of their TE scholarships to early decision applicants. But we couldn’t take the financial risk of her applying there ED. If she didn’t get it, we might not be able to afford it.
I would not apply to any school ED if I required the TE to swing it. I kind of hate ED as an option for any school.
Was that Muhlenberg?
Yes. That was it! I was thinking it was Connecticut College, but you’re right. It was Muhlenberg. It made me wonder if other colleges use that same criteria but don’t publish it. My D25 like Muhlenberg fine, but didn’t love it. All of the TE school where she applied are kind of iffy for us financially until we see aid and merit packages. It didn’t make sense for her to apply ED to any of them.
D25 has many college acceptances already and 1 TE approval (Elmhurst).
Yay! We got our first exchange tonight. It would be her top choice after my school so it at least gives her an option.
DD25 has acceptances at: UIC, Butler, DePaul, Saint Joseph’s and Duquesne
Waiting on: Simmons, Suffolk, Marquette, Miami Ohio - all of which are due on or before Dec 15.
Besides home school confirming, there are no TE decisions yet on our list.
We didn’t get any email or call from Elmhurst, just shows import accepted on TE website.
