I am eligible for the Tuition Exchange Program, which would cover all or most of my tuition for college. It’s just that the list is so big, I don’t know where to start. So from this list (Sorry, it’s long!), which schools have the best reputation and/or are academically rigorous?

We just went through the TE experience with our daughter. Probably the top school on the list academically is USC. However, that is where I work and my daughter wanted a different experience. She was looking at small LACs, so applied to 7 of those on the list.

Probably the most important thing to know is that these are very competitive scholarships. In order to get one, you should plan to be well above the 75-percentile numbers for the school and even then don’t expect it to be automatic. If you go to the “school search” tab on the TE site, you can find a short description of each school which includes the nominal TE award rate – e.g., percent of TE applicants receiving the award. Most of the better schools are <10%. USC has a higher rate, so it is a good target.

My daughter applied to 7 TE schools and got TE from 3. From most of the others, she got some form of merit funding because they were basically safeties for admission. She is attending a TE school in the fall… My colleague’s son had slightly lower numbers and did not get a TE offer anywhere, but will go to USC. You can contact your TE liaison and he/she will give you contact info for the TE liaison for the schools you are interested in. Talk with these people when you become more serious about applying and they can give you some idea of your chances.

This is for dependents of faculty/staff of colleges. Many colleges allow the children of faculty/staff to attend their institution tuition-free. TE is a consortium of colleges that allow this tuition benefit to be used at other member schools, through this competitive scholarship.

There are tons of great schools on that list. Depends on what you want to major on and if you want a liberal arts education vs big school. Off hand looking, Bucknell, Lafayette, Allegheny, Santa Clara, Embry-Riddle, Fordham, Hofstra, Baylor, alot of very good schools.
