We submitted the form. It gives you the options if you say that you are still interested. We picked the option for only fall admissions, not the Spring scholars program.
We did too. Checked fall admit only, but I could have sworn that when deferral first came out there were no extra options. After my D submitted her LOCI, admissions emailed telling her not to forget the online form. Thatâs what prompted us to look again. Good luck!
Ok Tulane has put us in this situation. It is DD first choice but she was deferred EA and so we have moved to ED2 because it is impossible to get in RA. That being said we are going to require 25-30K in aid and if we donât get it, weâre not going. It is clear on the ED2 form that it is not binding if TU doesnât give you appropriate aid. So we will roll the dice and know that we may be one of those that donât accept the ED2 admission if the aid isnât there. Before you cast dispersions, know that the ridiculously low RA numbers force you into this. Tulane is one of the worst violators of this in the entire country and there are plenty of articles written about their somewhat shady admissions tactics. If DD wasnât so enthralled with the school, we wouldnât be doing it.
Wow you are really going into it with a great attitude! Canât wait to see your contributions to the Parents Page if your daughter gets in! Yikes! Yes Tulane has had low numbers for RD (I assume thatâs what you mean) for the past several years but it also offers a non-binding Early Action, by which the majority of students are admitted. Iâm sorry that your daughter was deferred. There are a lot more great applicants than spots, and yes Tulane wants kids who want to be there (of which ED is a good indication!) I suggest running the Net Price Calculator before entering a contract you donât intend to honor and asking your school counselor to do the same. Talk about shady! Thereâs nothing shady about the low RD numbers- itâs simply a matter of spots being already filled by EA and ED candidates.
Spare me the holier than thou attitude. This is Tulaneâs game. Iâm just doing what I need to do. Plenty of articles just like this one. It doesnât cast the school in a great light.

Hi Everyone!
For Admits, please donât forget to register for a Destination Tulane event, which begins happening in February. The current registration numbers seem really low and this is a great way for students to meet new people, find a potential roommate and make new friends.
So far, the February dates are the most popular, but there is still a lot of space left. Log into your Greenwave portal, click on the Admitted tab and scroll down the page and youâll see âDestination Tulaneâ there.
So excited!! Roll Wave!!
If you havenât done so already I would suggest filling out their net price calculator. Thatâs the number, generally speaking, that the school expects to meet in terms of need. If that doesnât get you within your window of expected cost the suggestion would be to not switch to ED2. The âappropriate aidâ is THEIR number, not yours. This is nothing unique to Tulane.
Yes, Tulaneâs admissions practices have been widely criticized - though they are far from the only school that takes this strategy. With over 3K schools out there I personally donât have any issue with a school taking whatever strategy it wants for admissions, so long as itâs clear to the applicants whatâs taking place. We can take it or move on to one of the other options out there. (FWIW, my son was deferred EA and he went to RD and took the chance).
Itâs not a âgameâ. Many kids- mine included (2 now) are admitted by non-binding EA. Do the NPC- take a screen shot- if it doesnât get you where you need to be you should be encouraging your daughter to fall in love with another school. Itâs not complicated.
Keep in mind that students who apply EA and are deferred are not considered RD candidates, and so the RD statistics do not apply to them. Deferred EA candidates have better acceptance rates than RD candidates.
Source?
My understanding is that when someone is deferred from EA to RD they are then considered part or the RD pool for all purposes. They are not considered as part of the EA acceptance numbers.
Do the deferred EA applicants have a higher acceptance rate than the RD applicants? Possible - but not something thats reported.
I didnât even know this was happening until I saw your post. I was admitted EA and have read the few emails that Iâve gotten since then (mostly about fin aid and campus happenings), but havenât seen anything about Destination Tulane. Did I miss an important communication?
Its in the Green Wave portal. Click the admitted box and scroll down & click Destination Tulane
Apologies if I posted misleading information. I may be guilty of doing something that I sometimes criticize others for, which is relying on something that I was told, without verifying that it originated from a reliable source.
What you said might be applicable to some other school since there can be very different approaches to admission one school to the next. We also try to discern trends based on the Common Data Set which by its nature is at least a year in arrears. So a school might be suggesting itâs âchanging its approachâ but we wonât know if thatâs true or not for 12-18 months.
The last few years the general thought is that Tulane utilizes itâs RD spots to fill areaâs of âinstitutional needâ. As applicants we have no idea what those areaâs of need are in any given cycle. Does the band need an Oboe player? Do they want to boost their first generation population? Etc.
Please understand that the process for requesting and being released from an ED contract is not single-sided and it is lengthy. It can take so long that other options are off the table before it is complete.
Anyone know when ED2 decisions have been released historically?
Last year was Feb 5 but they will announce on instagram beforehand
Hi All - Our son was admitted EA in December and was so pumped . We set the expectation that this wasnât affordable at list price and he needed financially to make this work. After his acceptance, received his best report card. He reached out to the admissions director to see if he might qualify for merit but has not received a response in the past two weeks. Unfortunately (or fortunately) we donât qualify for financial aid. He has other acceptances but none that he is close to being excited about. Should we just move on or is there hope that with the late Feb scholarships, we might close the gap?
Did he apply for other/specific scholarships? If he did I would wait and see what the outcome of those are. If he didnât, the school is unlikely to - unsolicited- come back and offer money.
Some schools will make an attempt to match the offers of peer schools if the applicant provides the documents to show the offer. Its worth a try if your son has such an offer in hand.
My understanding is that Tulane isnât great with money for kids that arenât in their âpriorityâ buckets. Very expensive school for one that is often ranked outside the top 100.
