UC Riverside Class of 2028 Official Thread

From what I’ve seen, required GEs aren’t the problem. Students have four years to complete their GEs and that is usually more than enough time to take the GE courses they need.

Courses required for their major, and courses that are required in order to take upper division courses in their major, are the ones that are difficult to get into.

My daughter did receive an invite to the honors college after finally checking her email. Is anyone else having problems accessing their portal? She hasn’t been able to get in since before decisions were released. We filled out a help ticket a few days ago but haven’t received a response. She would like to get in before the honors app is due. TIA

Has there been any news from UCR since March 1? Forum has been quiet for 7 days. DS24 still waiting for any “proof of life”. Are we now just waiting for WL and denials on Ivy Day?

What is the difference between Admitted Student Events that are happening this weekend and Highlander day on April 13th?

Highlander Day is the campus Open House for admitted students and families on April 13.

Last year’s timeline after the March 1 admit wave.

Waitlist decisions posted March 27. Denials March 28 along with a few admits and waitlists.

What is happening this weekend? D24 has no info on that, only on the Highlander Day.

Those events off campus are for students that cannot attend the Open house in April but still want information about UCR.

In general, the off campus events are helpful in providing information about the university, but don’t give admitted students as much of a feel for the campus culture.

Unfortunately, multiple California universities decided to have their admitted student day on April 13. If your student is considering two schools, attending a local UCR event and then an admitted student day at another university might be your best option.

Don’t be surprised if your student decides to enroll at the school where they attend the admitted student day. If you (as a parent) have a preference, I would make it a priority to visit that school’s admitted student day.

Just attended the regional admitted student reception at the Sheraton San Gabriel today. It was very well attended. I have a very serious concern. They gave us the financial aid timeline. Pretty much you have to commit by May 15 and you will not know your official financial aid by June or July. You can’t even create a Web4grant account now until Fafsa is officially finished and processed. So everything is up in the air.

Thank you for sharing this. I wanted to attend this event today but couldn’t make it.

What a horrible situation.

My daughter got acceptance from waitlist today. She got in for Electrical Engineering BS+MS in the College of Engineering which was her first choice at UCR.

Is this a commonly received email? I’m inclined to consider but wonder if it’s just a marketing tactic that everyone receives

Starting last year, some ELC eligible students were notified by UC Riverside their application could be referred for admission. Not all ELC students or majors are available but it is legitimate.

Several students this year have gotten the same letter.

Ok, I’m just in disbelief because people in this thread have way better stats than me. The email states that they will “consider” based on my major, do you think I’d have a lower chance of redirection if I applied for business? Is it impacted there?

Apply for what you want to study. In UCR, it is a pre-business program leading to declaring the major after the prereqs are fulfilled.
