UC San Diego Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeals Discussion

Depends upon if they reach their enrollment target early or later.
Last year they started admitting off the waitlist May 9 (SIR date was May 1) and closed the waitlist June 30th.

Since the SIR deadline is extended until May 15, you should expect to hear after that date and it could extend later into the summer.

I am a transfer student from CA community college, and I am waitlisted by UCSD now. My first-major is CSE: Computer Engineering. I’m trying to contact with the admission office because I submitted an incorrect grade of one course (I got an A, but I submitted a B), which affects the GPA from 3.8 to 3.74. Will the admission office reconsider about the application decision? Or will this affect the waitlist? Anyways I will tell them and try my best because of my mistake…

That is up to admissions to decide but one grade will probably not make a huge difference.

Thanks! I asked the admission office today and they said I can’t do anything with it… I wanna ask is it a big disadvantage if I’m taking 4 major requirement courses in this spring semester (the last semester)?

Yes, taking 4 major requirements may be a disadvantage but only admissions can make that judgement.

will the wave of wl admits for international applicants be different?

There may not be a specific wave of International waitlist admits. Many times it will be just a wave with in-state, OOS and International students.

hi Gumbymom, wat is the wl admit rate for international students?

The UC’s do not breakout the waitlist data by residency. If UCSD’s International enrollment target is not met which has been around 9% of the enrolled students, then UCSD will pull from the waitlist.

Note: All UC’s have a mandated cap on enrollment for Out of State and International students which is 18%.

Thank you.

When was the 18% cap for OOS and IS implemented? The enrollment data for previous years shows that the enrollment for combined out of state and international students ranges from 19% - 22% for the last few years.

The enrollment cap was imposed in 2017.

UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, UCLA and UC San Diego — nonresident enrollment will be capped at the proportion that each campus enrolls in the 2017–18 academic year.

Those campuses have agreed to decrease nonresident enrollment to 18 percent of their respective undergraduate student body by 2025 in order to create more space for California students.

The campuses are still working on reducing those numbers and have as noted until 2025.

Hello, I was just wondering if you happened to know whether or not UCSD rejects people prematurely, or will wait until the waitlist decisions have been completed and send a final notice to everyone. Thanks!

The last 2 years (2022 and 2023), UCSD denied some waitlisted students early and then kept other waitlisted students on a short list before sending final denials.

UCSD:
2022: Admits May 9 and May 18. Some rejections May 23. Short list with some admits till May 17. Final rejections on June 18-30.

2023: Wave of admits including some capped majors such as DS/Undeclared Engineering and EE on May 10. Admits May 22. Few admits June 7. Some students denied from the waitlist June 12. More denials on June 30.

I have a question about appeals, if your appeal is accepted , are you admitted or you go to the waistline list?

If the appeal is approved, you will receive an offer of admission.

Edited: Apparently UCSD may approve the appeal but will also offer the waitlist instead of admission.

My daughter’s friend appeal was accepted yesterday. But the result after confirming with her is that she is now on the waitlist

Thank you for the update. Best of luck to her on the waitlist.

where do we send our appeals?

The appeal deadline was April 15 for Freshman so you can longer submit an appeal.

You cannot appeal if you are on the waitlist.
