UC San Diego Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeals Discussion

Same here. I know of a couple others in the same situation as well. Do you know what your daughter’s friend’s major was? Everyone I’ve heard of who’s been moved onto the waitlist (from appealing) has been an engineering major including myself.

Also, does anybody know if UCSD has done something like this in the past? It’s very interesting to me that they’re putting additional people on the waitlist instead of just admitting more people from the initial waitlist if they haven’t had enough enrollments so far. Nonetheless, I’m keeping my fingers crossed because UCSD is my #1 school.

I have not seen anyone that appealed being placed on the waitlist for UCSD recently, but I know that this has happened at UCSC and UCI previously.

A reminder that this thread is specifically for discussions regarding the waitlist and appeals, not to post youtube videos complaining about admission policies.

Has there been anyone who got off the waitlist as undecided instead of getting into their top two major choices?

Many students each year that are admitted off the UCSD waitlist will be Undeclared as their major option.

And if that’s the case(admitted undeclared) how is that compared with let’s say UCR Biology major for premed? Is it still a good idea to go undeclared at UCSD and then get into Biology? Not sure when that usually happens.

Biology is a Selective major so if admitted Undeclared than the student has to go through the Selective major process to change majors.

Non-biology majors who entered UC San Diego as freshmen may be eligible to apply for admission into a biology major. Please note that available biology majors will vary based on the term of admission to UC San Diego.

Consideration of non-biology majors for admission into a biology major is based on the Selective Major Admission requirements until the numerical limit is reached. To be considered for admission into a biology major, students must satisfy all criteria listed below.

Selective Major Admission Courses

  • BILD 1 and 3
  • CHEM 6A, 6B, 6C, and 7L
  • MATH 10A or 20A and MATH 10B or 20B

Additional Criteria and Information

  1. Complete all Selective Major Admission coursework, including transfer courses, with a “C-“ or higher, or with AP/IB/A-Level UC San Diego equivalent course credit.
  2. Earn a minimum 2.5 GPA in the Selective Major Admission courses. Only Selective Major Admission courses taken at a UC with a letter grade will be factored into the screening GPA.
  3. Apply, using the online application below, within the first 6 quarters at UC San Diego, during an active application cycle. Do not use Tritonlink to request a change of major.
  4. Submit your application once the application opens. Day and time of application submission will be considered when making admission offers.
  5. Current quarter grades will be taken into consideration for the applicable application cycle (e.g. fall grades will be considered for the fall application).
  6. Applications will be reviewed after term grades are finalized (Thursday after Finals Week). Once all applications have been reviewed, applicants will be notified.
  7. Students are expected to be aware of relevant timelines and deadlines, and to check their @ucsd.edu email account regularly. If offered admission, failure to take action by the specified date and time will result in a declined offer.

I have not heard about any admits.

This is torture! Lol. Any news we can use? Opinions on which is better for Business related majors, UCSD or CSUFullerton Honors Business? Commitment date tomorrow. Thanks in advance.

If the student is on the UCSD’s waitlist, then there is no choice, SIR to CSU Fullerton until they hear which based on the last 2 years could be about week after the SIR deadline.

If you are admitted to UCSD and CSU Fullerton, you’d be crazy to pick the latter over the former. UCSD is miles clear in every single department.

has anyone got off the ucsd wl yet?

If we get off from one UC waitlist and accept it and then get off from the another UC, Can we drop the first one and accept the second one?

Yes, you can accept as many waitlist admits that you want but each time you will be losing the enrollment deposit when you change schools.

From the admission statistics that they release, do you happen to know if the number of admissions includes people on the waitlist who were offered admission but declined/failed to respond? Or does this number only include those who accept the offer of admission.

The UC’s do not get that granular so the numbers on the Common Dataset show only the # admitted off the waitlist. During the UC Counselor conference only 1 campus listed the # of enrolled admits from the waitlist which was UCSB. They stated 5506 admits from the waitlist and 1056 enrolled (preliminary data).

i just called the admissions office to ask when i can expect to hear back, and they said that they don’t know if they’ll be using the waitlist this year. i feel like maybe their yield this year is rly good and the wl acceptance % is going to be rly low :frowning:

I called UCSD admissions office for waitlist movement. It won’t be before August and I asked why so late. The person said it is new policy for UCSD undergraduate admissions. I am confused. Really ??
