UC Santa Barbara Class of 2030 Official Thread

No one at my school (Orange County, Laguna Beach) got the invite. I was wondering if the LA reception extended to OC at all. It seems that way so far.

This is the wording for the invitation. The wording is very similar to prior chancellor’s receptions once you register. I think it is the same thing.

I guess I could be wrong, but the idea of having targeted (do not forward this email), in-person “receptions” that actually have no tie to admissions status just doesn’t make sense to me. Those types of events would be run as open houses, not invite-only “receptions”.

UCSB emailed that they are announcing their decisions to applicant portals on Tuesday March 17 at 3pm

Just received the reception invite 1 hour ago for LA area on 3/14, anyone know why it is so last minute? I thought all the invites were out weeks ago.

Congratulations!!! Not sure why it is so late but the receptions are being held in different locations (other than LA and NY) than in previous years and some are being held after the March 17 decision date which has not the case previously. New administration, new timelines?

Thank you! I think bunch of LA kids received the invite by email today. Denver location 3/21, Seattle 3/28.

@gumbymom I don’t know if you still remember me haha

I was on these forums back in like 2022 as a high school senior. I usually check in on this thread every year or so around admissions season. I think this will be the last time I will be checking in, as I’m about to graduate in June

Here’s my post from many years ago:

It is hard to put into words the impact that UCSB has had on me throughout these last four years. It has shaped me into who I am today. I met my closest friends here, did research with world class professors, interned for amazing companies, went to parties to unwind on the weekends and had the unforgettable experience of living in Isla Vista with all of my friends and fellow students, literally steps away from the beach. Coming from a competitive Bay Area high school, UCSB really pushed me to expand my horizons. I gained a much healthier relationship with work and school compared to what I experienced in HS.

This June, I will be graduating with a bachelors degree in Computer Engineering. This summer, I will be interning for a large semiconductor company (currently in the news) doing CPU/GPU design, a role that I could have only dreamed of working back in high school. After that, I will be heading to the University of Southern California this fall to start my PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with the goal of eventually becoming a professor.

None of this would’ve been possible without the amazing faculty (ECE department has 2 Nobel Prize winners, and Physics just got 2 more Nobel Prizes this year!), the small student to faculty ratio (6:1 for my major), the amazing research opportunities (I did some really cutting edge semiconductor research) and most importantly, the friendly and collaborative culture of this university.

UCSB was a life-changing experience for me, and I’m sure it will change your life too, if you choose to attend.

Best of luck to all the applicants! No matter where you go, your life is just beginning

From my experience like >50% of the Regents Scholars are CS or engineering students.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot - here are some pictures!

Bonus: Some of the semiconductor fabrication work I did! Designed and made these from scratch (with just a blank silicon wafer)

Yes, @gauchoengineering I definitely remember you and your helpful posts throughout the years about UCSB and your experience. I cannot believe you are set to graduate in June and I am impressed with all you have accomplished. You are the poster student for why UCSB has the been the best “fit” for you, how everything works out for a reason and how you ended up at the school that was meant for you.

Wishing you all the best with your job and PhD program. You have excelled in your life so far and I am sure you will continue to do amazing things as you continue with your educational journey. So grateful for the update and take care.

Here you go: D26 rejected, 3.7 UW, 4.15 W for Classics. But…UCSB was no longer a top contender, and truly, I’m just glad it wasn’t a waitlist. Nobody wanted to wait around until June or so.
