Not at all…from what I recall there were portal changes right up till the time decisions came out and everyone’s portal changed at different times. My son, who was accepted, didn’t see a portal change until that same afternoon.
Was ur son from out of state? If so, would you mind sharing his stats? I’m from nj and unc is by far my dream school but I know how hard it is for kids OOS.
He was in state but don’t let OOS stats discourage you. UNC truly looks at the candidate holistically; he did VERY well in HS (but was not the top 1 percent nor did he have the perfect SAT score). UNC definitely looks for great grades and scores but really looks beyond that and delves into leadership experiences that are truly unique, your ability to diversify yourself and your beliefs with the people who will be learning with you on a robust college campus. Good luck to you!
I attended project uplift at UNC and the admissions people were saying how ranking isn’t as important because some schools don’t report ranking or do it differently and the same can go with gpas. Every school records gpas differently and weighs classes differently and they don’t have the time to recalculate everyone’s gpa. The main things they want to see are what classes are offered at your school and if you took the initiative to take the challenging courses and obviously see how you performed in them along with other students. I know people say that if you aren’t in the top 10% then you don’t have that great of a shot but don’t let that discourage you because there are other parts of your application that are more important than your rank.
what’s the reddit group? DD has a PID now. UNC Alum OOS
Where do you see a PID #?
someone posted this earlier: https://pid.itsapps.unc.edu/PIDCreate/jsp/wmp.jsp someone else posted that on that page it states this: “The issuance of a PID does not indicate that you have been or will be admitted to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.”
yes but some of us are trying to see what they mean. we are aware as that is plastered on the website.
I thought that every applicant should have a pid number for unc chapel hill if they’ve applied
It sounds like all prospective students have a PID. Even if not true try not to read too much into it. I remember a different school last year where people were making assumptions based on an email address- turns out even if waitlisted you got a student email address…
To put all rumors to rest, I called the pid office this morning as when my ds uses the pid lookup tool one had a pid and the other didn’t. When I called the pid office I found out the one that couldn’t pull up the pid number actually has a pid number but she didn’t enter her social security number when she filled out the application so the pid tool couldn’t find it. So yes every prospective student has a pid whether they’ve been accepted or not. If your child didn’t enter their ssn they will need to fill out a form from the pid office to get this corrected
If you don’t have a PID does that mean you’ve been denied?
Everyone will have a pid. If your child can’t access it via the pid lookup it’s most likely that they didn’t enter their ssn in their application
we are all having last minutes jitters. The only decision I’ve seen in this thread is the one denial. Any news on reddit?
No news on Reddit from what I’ve seen
I haven’t seen any decisions on Reddit. I did see someone posted a text string where they asked admissions when they are releasing decisions, and the response was they are still finalizing decisions and will release by the end of the month.
Has anyone asked admissions if an email would be sent out in the days prior to decisions like last year?
^^ yeah, second that. Didn’t they send out an email the Wednesday before decisions were released?
I wouldn’t have too much hope for tomorrow, I think an email would have been sent to let us know beforehand.
Because UNC is in the NC research triangle, does anyone know how well they value science research in HS on an application? I did a lot of science research in HS (internships, awards, publication) and am wondering how much it will boost my chances
That will probably boost your chances a good bit! UNC absolutely loves students who are involved in their community. That is what they mainly look for in students - ones who will give back to the community and represent UNC in a good way.
