UNC Morehead Cain - Class of 2028

Trying to find some information about Morehead Cain applications and selection process for Fall 2024 start.

My D24 (OOS, no legacy) received a nomination email from ARP to fill out the Morehead Cain application on 11/30. Application is due on 12/10 with the recorded zoom interview. Very excited, but also confused!
Any help on these questions?
-Does this mean she has been accepted to UNC?
-Does this mean she is a MC semi-finalist?
-How many OOS ARP referrals are there?
-Anyone doe the zoom interview? What kind of questions do they ask?

Thanks for the help!

What is ARP? My OOS 2024 student was nominated, but the application was due months ago. Did your daughter already complete one application? If so, I would assume that she is a semi-finalist if she is being asked for more information. Congratulations!

Your student likely received a nomination from their school, for students whom don’t attend a nominating school but apply by Oct 15th then admissions can also nominate their application to Moorehead-Cain which is what happened with OP’s daughter. The admissions reps are not affiliated with MC so it is unlikely to indicate she will automatically become a semi-finalist however I would think she is extremely likely, if not guaranteed, to be admitted to UNC (because clearly admissions was impressed).

@chocolate2426 I have known it was possible but have never found anyone who was nominated to MC by admissions, congrats to your D24! Do you mind sharing her stats and EC’s as we had been hoping for a nomination for our D24 that way as well but wasn’t and I’m curious how what it would have taken!

We are out of state and not in a nominating school, so only way to be eligible for Morehead was by ARP (Admission Referral Program). Not sure how ARP decides who gets nomination?
I am assuming the application she is now filling out is the application North Carolina students filled out back in August/Sept. Very long application for one week turnaround.

My D24 is academically strong (class rigor, #1 rank), varsity sport, and a stem student. ECs were community volunteering, president of school clubs, and so basically everything a strong student does so not sure what the distinguishing factor was - assuming her personal statement, recommendations, essays were the deciding factor for ARP.

My son was nominated by his school (OOS), and I’m wondering when semifinalist notifications will come out.

Congrats to OP’s daughter!

In my daughter’s OOS high school, one student is nominated each year for Morehead-Cain. In my daughter’s high school class, the student who was nominated for the Morehead did not get admitted to UNC-CH; my daughter, who did not get the Morehead nomination, was admitted to UNC-CH. So there is not always a correlation between Morehead nomination and admission.

Website has more info on selection process.

I don’t recall the question(s), but I do recall him saying it gave you time to think before recording. He’s done a couple so forgetting which ones had more than one question. None he’s done have been curveball questions thus far.

Yikes! Did your daughter attend UNC?

Yes: she matriculated and graduated.

Congratulations to your son!!
When is his interview due? Wondering if it is different than the ARP deadline.

Congratulations!

His interview is due on Monday. I didn’t pay attention to the time. How about your child’s?
