University of Georgia Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

I have no concerns and I’m not questioning anything, just offering an opinion based on posts about who has gotten in EA and with what credentials. Not sure what the big deal is  And honestly I think it’s a great applicant selection approach.

My OOS DD chose UGA over UNC, UVA and UF, specifically because of the welcoming community, academic balance, beautiful and vibrant town of Athens, 5points and the diverse and passionate culture at UGA along with the intense happiness and school pride shown by students, faculty and alumni. She is in the Honors program, joined a sorority and other campus orgs, lives in the “lower Hill dorms” etc

I popped in to wish congrats to new Dawgs and encouragement to those deferred. Feel free to ask any questions. Best of luck to all. Athens is AMAZING and special, as is UGA

Your student is being evaluated based on the classes that are on offer at their school. The EA round has students from over 100 Georgia counties. There are many many counties in Georgia with very few AP classes.

Because of the huge demand (Graves said recently on X he expects applications to be in the 48 to 50,000 range, which is a 5 to 8000 jump over last year alone), EA takes the strongest students. These students much of the time are high stat, but also high involvement, good essays, etc. There are a few people above that posted strong grades with test scores below the indicated range who were accepted. My guess is there are many many more like this. David Graves has said many times that they put much more value in how you perform over four years versus how you perform on a given Saturday.

I don’t think you can assume that because the kids who were admitted had high grades and scores that a holistic process was not used. The EA admits we know had grades, rigor and scores, but also school involvement, leadership positions, significant volunteer hours, part time jobs, etc. In a state with almost 130,000 high school students where most of the high achievers apply to UGA, there are just a lot of very strong applicants.

The UGA blog is super transparent and helpful and all that he says there makes so much sense as compared to myths I hear. I just hope they stick to the process that they outline.
My son is a a ‘deferred’ from the EA. All his numbers - CORE UGA GPA/ SAT/APs (holistic) are right in the middle of the middle 50% stats that UGA released for EA. Assuming fairly strong essays/activities (which he has ) any ideas as to what his chances would be to get in with regular pool evaluations ?

Is it right that OOS comes out 12/6? I haven’t see that anywhere. If so, do we know what time?

Yes, 4pm

We were OOS last year, but our daughter has made many in state friends, both EA/RD admits. UGA admissions dept is among the most professional, transparent and respectful in the country. Believe exactly what Graves and the admissions dept disclose. He is just as awesome and genuine in person as he demonstrates virtually. Nothing is guaranteed, but if you are honest and realistic about your students stats and simply compare them to what is openly disclosed by UGA you will have a good idea on their chances as an In State student.

As an OOS student that also holds true except that your chances are MUCH less, so you better exceed the middle ranges in at least a few stats. OOS students need to be rock stars, similar to UNC OOS admissions. Only 7% of total applicants are OOS enrolled freshman this yr.

Our DD has a lot of in-state friends who were deferred, then admitted. And these are great kids!

If you notice UGA openly discloses avg AP/IB stats for admitted students. In our experience, no other school that I know of does this. They place great value in actual course work stats and rigor. This was an indicator for us in believing our student had a strong chance of being admitted OOS (15 AP classes, 2 DE). We knew 5 other OOS kids with higher SAT scores (high 1460+) than our student who were deferred-> denied. They didn’t have the same course rigor.

Hang in there, the process can be brutal and difficult. Pray and be positive  for your student

UGA definitely puts more emphasis on grades and rigor vs test scores. OOS acceptance rate last year per the admissions blog was 25% so still a way to go before UGA hits UNC OOS (or Texas OOS for that matter) competitiveness level!

One reason for this lower number (despite the increase in OOS applications) as he explains is they have a higher number of weaker applicants from OOS as many are unfamiliar with the strength of the accepted applicant pool. Now that state residency is considered (it was not until recently) and there is a 20 percent cap it will only become more competitive!

Good luck to all UGA OOS applicants. 12062024@1600

Anyone else having a hard time waiting for OOS EA decisions this Friday? I don’t have much hope for my student, as his stats aren’t out-of-this-world, so I guess we’re hoping for “deferred.” But then, a part of me still holds out hope for an acceptance; then I feel stupid for even entertaining this as a possibility. Anyone else making themselves sick over this?

Same. It’s one of my son’s top choices, so I’m very nervous for him. I keep reminding myself that defer doesn’t mean deny. He falls within the range of everything for In State but who knows with out of state. And even with the stats it’s a tough admit. FIngers crossed for our kiddos!

I would like to echo these sentiments. My son is a OOS freshman and chose UGA over UF, Wisconsin, Northeastern, Tulane, OSU, Maryland, PSU, amongst others. Many of these other schools he was accepted directly into the business program and/or got into the honors college and/or received a ton of merit money. He absolutely loves UGA for many of the reasons listed above and as his parents, we could not be more thrilled with the school so far. He is intended Terry with double major in Finance and Management Information Systems. He joined a fraternity and was accepted into/involved in several business organizations/clubs.

I wish everyone OOS the best of luck this week and feel free to ask any questions. UGA and Athens are both incredible! Go DAWGS!

Yes I am so stressed. I have a kid there now who LOVES it! My daughter hoping to get in tomorrow but I am almost certain it would be a deferral. Will be shocked and upset at a rejection but also surprised at acceptance. My other one got in EA but only had one B…I miss when I didn’t know so much!
