University of Pittsburgh Class of 2025 Official Discussion Thread

@RockyPA

I’m shocked to hear that small amount your D received. I’m not sure now if test score is the factor for scholarship decision. Let hope she is awarded with Chancellor’s scholarship .

Where in the Portal is the information showing up?

Where is the merit award showing up in the portal?

@ttb1263 She also has an 800 in Bio subject test… took AP Bio and Calc AB as a sophomore…Not holding my breath for Chancellor’s

@PAparents2020 She got an email with a link

We did not yet get an email or any merit alert or letter. Does that mean we’re done for? :frowning:

Seems like merit awards are tending towards the lower end for most of the colleges

Should be under campus financials, yes?

Most schools will look for “fit”. My D got deferred to Case Western but they probably use yield protection for admission. College admission process is so stressful and unpredictable, that is why I take on researching schools and monitoring progress via CC to help ease up some stress for my kid.

Nothing there. I guess, if one doesn’t get an email from Upitt, probably means, merit award is yet to be offered.

@drewcollege4 are you Instate? Do they consider in or out of state with merit awards? Both you and @RockyPA stats are strong.
No emails or anything on the portal here.

I am shocked. Makes no sense.

Might be good to appeal… for those with awesome stats, especially OOS

My son’s application was acknowledged completed on 12/9. He has Accept/Decline Awards button but not the Accept/Decline Admissions buttons. There is nothing in the Awards section. Does this mean anything? Thank you for the replies from those who have might have been through this already.

@sparkleybarkley perusing last year’s thread I found there was a person with an even more impressive profile (ultimately accepted to MIT and Caltech) that was awarded zero aid… what was in common was the school applied to: School of Computing and Information…not sure if intended major is a factor

Yes, they may have allotted merit per major/school

Don’t read too much into the Financials Accept/Decline area. The sequence for admission is:

  1. First, your S. will Admission Accept/Decline button.
  2. Your S. will receive a acceptance letter via postal mail.
  3. Your S. will receive email with a link to a “cute” acceptance video.

Sometimes you will receive 3. before 2. That is based on what I see so far from CC and from my experience with my daughter’s acceptance.

Good luck !!!

Out of state and applied to business

Applied November 29. Heard absolutely nothing back

I have an older college student who went through this process too. Pitt has definitely decreased the amount of merit awards.

If I remember correctly, there was a somewhat clear cut pattern that kids with a 35 ACT in state would get $15k per year. 34 ACT would get $10k per year. This is assuming high GPA.

OOS kids got more to make up for the OOS costs.

Now kids with those same stats are getting $2k - $5k in a lot of cases.

But even back then you pretty much had to have 34/1500 for merit with a few more rare examples, unless it was a diversity scholarship. This isn’t including Chancellors invites.
