University of Pittsburgh Class of 2025 Official Discussion Thread

Are you in state or out of state?

Me too. I’m getting worried as well. My DS is OOS and Pitt is his #1, but we can’t do it without $15k in grant money.

I called Admissions and Financial aid offices on Monday to ask about aid. My D was accepted WAY back in Nov. She is TOP of her class, has volunteer hours, clubs, honors, etc. we have not heard one thing. When I spoke with a woman in Admissions, she was down right rude and said only about 1/4th students receive merit and if you don’t receive any news by March, don’t expect merit aid. I’m a single mother and my D only wants to go to Pitt. We’ve visited 3x and we are OOS. Very unsettling.

Got my buttons today!!
OOS CA for Politics & Philosophy

  • ACT: 34
  • HS doesn’t rank
  • UW GPA: 2.97
  • Sophomore level standing at local community college (GPA 3.2)
  • ECs include congressional internship, TA for undergrad polsci classes, president of youth group chapter, founded HS club
  • Applied on 12/1

Super excited - not expecting miracles for Honors/merit aid, but hyped nonetheless!

Next week they will send out FA–so you will at least have that information.

I don’t want this to come off badly but why is everyone on this thread acting like they’re entitled to merit aid? If everyone got it then it wouldn’t be merit aid. Also need based is coming out soon so most people will probably at least get something.

I believe everyone who is stating they are waiting probably meets the requirements. Don’t athletes expect scholarships for their abilities?

But they’ve said only 25% get merit money. If you have the grades to get into the school then you probably qualify for merit money but not everyone can get it.

Not sure how much they are willing to give. I’ve been scrolling through the thousand responses on this thread and other blogs and it seems Pitt is not very generous. My D just got offered $25K from another school for the first year, but she wants to go to Pitt.

Pitt used to be more generous with merit and has a reputation for giving merit based on the past. It really seems they have cut back in recent years. Also, merit and honors college used to be strictly based on stats but now it seems to be more holistic. There is no automatic merit because you meet some threshold. Last year there were some very high stats students who didn’t get any merit.

From what I understand, Pitt offers merit scholarships on a rolling basis and since this year every school has been giving out less money, I’m sure Pitt simply gave out their best offers already. I made sure to apply to Pitt first out of my schools (so I applied around 10/20, got accepted around a month later and offered merit another month after that) and frankly it was a generous offer. I also made sure to complete the Short Answer Questions to the best of my ability.

I applied to Pitt 9/29 and got back the middle of October and haven’t gotten any merit. I have a decent gpa with no test scores and I very long list of extra curriculars but I have to accept that maybe I won’t go here because they aren’t the best at giving money! Congrats to the ppl who have tho

just checked mypitt and saw a panther pride award, no email or letter it just appeared!

financial aid is up…confusing because it only shows loans panther prode and merit money but not how much tuition and fees are

Did anyone’s not update

yep, was wondering the same thing; was looking for the net price but could not find it

Net Price for instate is about 34k and out of state 48k

Thats just you financial aid. You will most likley get a financial aid package in the mail that shows the breakdown of tuition/Housing etc.

@me29034 MY high stats daughter (National Merit SF, 1570 SAT and 4.76 gpa - 13 APs) got minimal aid ($2000/year). She also has very good ECs.

Letters go out on Monday but it appears the packages are in the portals. My daughter’s package without including loans is only $1k over our FAFSA EFC. I was really surprised as I was expecting to be offered loans to get to that amount. So maybe some of you waiting on merit will be pleasantly surprised with the aid offered.
