University of Pittsburgh Class of 2025 Official Discussion Thread

OK, well, we got practically nothing, but we had a new EFC calculated due to two factors, as of a couple days ago – so I’m hoping they’ll reconfigure the amount. But I have low expectations.

This aid news is apart from merit or schol. universe offers, or honors, or anything else, correct?

Thanks, I hope many of you can get what you need! We’re most likely heading in a different direction with more merit $

Just logged in an saw daughter was awarded $20k/year university scholarship. We weren’t expecting that and pleasantly surprised!

Just to give you our Pitt experience last year - we re OOS, went to a Blue and Gold day (12 hour drive each way), DD valedictorian, 1540 SAT, honors and AP classes, musician, competitive figure skater, job, excellent letters of rec, yada yada yada, accepted within 7 days of application and she received nothing. Pitt and BU were the only schools who didn’t give her a dime of merit. She really wanted to go to Pitt but ultimately chose a different school that gave her a great scholarship and she just found out she was accepted to do research this semester as a freshman so somehow it all works out. They need to keep an open mind.

And we were one of them. You nailed what is happening.

Congrats! Was this update showed up in the portal?

@Topcat123 it’s happening this year too! My daughter applied early October with high stats and very good ECs (see above) and was was accepted within 10 days. 3 months later they gave her $2000/year in merit, far lower that what I was expecting based on other merit posts here in CC.

You have to look at bottom and click on Financial Aid Budget. And then you will see all the costs.

Hopefully your daughter has or will receive great merit elsewhere! I know giving up Pitt is heartbreaking, though.

Yes in the financial aid section.

Where are you finding the financial aid info? There is nothing in my daughters portal.

I see loans but no mention of merit… does this mean I didn’t get anything or could I still be considered?

@dancer7381 According to an e-mail that many of us received, merit aid would be informed next week, but I guess it can come until March.

@dancer7381 The e-mail says:
You’ve done all the hard work – getting accepted to the University of Pittsburgh. Congrats! Now, we want to help make a Pitt education your reality. The Department of Education provided us with updated information for Financial Aid last week, and we’re triple-checking to make sure we get it right!

If you have:

  • filled out the FAFSA and added Pitt using our school code: 008815, and
  • provided your social security number to the financial aid office,

then you should get an email from pittfa@pitt.edu with all the details of your 2021/2022 financial aid offer the week of February 8, 2021.

Did that email give you a number to call if you need to provide any info? I don’t think my daughter put her SS# on her application…

I think this email is not related to merit aid. It is related to need based aid.

@grad2025mom Yes, I think you are right. We will have to wait.

@Tigergrad94 Here is the rest of the e-mail?

When you receive this email next week, please review it carefully. If you need help understanding it, we are standing by, ready to talk. You can email us at finaid@pitt.edu or you can call us at (412) 624-7488 (Option 2).

I hope it helps

Hopes for any merit aid is going down the drain :unamused:

That email was specifically about financial aid (needs-based) not about merit aid. Merit aid is decided by the admissions dept (merit committee) NOT the financial aid department

Thanks!
